Here's a tech question for you. When forcing a Regen the ppm on the inlet side would read within spec. As soon as the Regen stopped it was jumping all around from -100ppm to 2000ppm (obviously not working correctly) just weird during a Regen it was fine. And to note I'm not a technician. I'm a glorified parts replacer

@@lightningguy4897 Thanks for reaching out. Sometimes dislocating your wrist makes it easier to do most hard to reach repairs on these trucks. If the sesnor socket flexes outward when turning in either direction.I do a couple diff things. Get it hot,,spray it down with oil,and if all else fails just cut off the wire and put a deep 7/8 on there. They can be a real pain. As for you ppm on a good nox sensor the closer to 0 the better. Usually hovers around 10 ish. Than inlet would be around 300 to 400 ish. ut these readings should be taken last 10 min of a regen not afterward. Hope that helps some and stay safe out there. Great question, these one boxes have two nox sensors aka scr inlet and outlet sensor. If you have the model where two are placed together than you have a soot sensor next to your outlet sensor. Soot sensor is like a nox sensor but just measures soot towards the outlet side and nox sensors just measure nox readings. Hope that helps.

When the code is for bad def it’s usually not converting nox correctly in your scr box. So it will than throw that code. To know for sure is with a refractometer which tests the water % in your def. after that it will just be regens and monitoring your sensors with a computer to find the culprit. Hope that gives some clarity.

But checking voltage if only one strand of wire is touching it will have a hard time carrying the load and will show low voltage. So for the most part I start with voltage checks. Hope that helps.

@@TaskForce860 great question. Most likely your truck is just regening while it’s driving and you might not be noticing. There’s a parameter that will stop the regen button from working unless it’s at a high dpf zone level. That might be the issue and to fix that I believe only the true diagnostic link program would be needed. As long as the button is infact working and being registers. But through a computer we can make it regen no problem. If you idle a lot as most do in summer, it should be letting you request a regen. So I would have that switch looked at and the parameter. Sry man I’m a little late, just noticed your comment. I’m sure it’s fixed by now. With that code it’s telling the computer that the nox sensor is reporting an issue internally and needs to be replaced. Usually end of the sensors life. Mostly there won’t be a derate intill it’s on and avoided for an extended period of time. But the fix would be replacement of the failed sensor and regen to ensure no other issues come active. Again sry about the delay, never got the notification. Stay safe and keep grinding out there.

@@fidel9498 good question but why would you replace the nox sensor with that code. Did all the other sensors get checked prior. Usually you can count on a intake manifold temp sensor to cause this.

@@bustedknucklebydieseldr3228 initially I was getting the 4364/18 code and other codes stating nox efficiency low, therefore I replaced both inlet and outlet sensors. Couple days later I get 3056/2 code so I thought it was a defective inlet nox sensor. Swapped it out again, and now I’m getting the 5357/16 & 3056/2 codes. Appreciate the quick response!

@@fidel9498 gotcha. Well, that code is going to hav should check the manifold temp sensor(very common for corrosion) than baro sensor for bias,,than delta p voltage incase there’s any plugging. After that any exhaust leaks than intake system for leaks. If that doesn’t lead you to an issue last step is to check nox sensors in a verification routine. But all of these would require a diagnostic computer , hopefully you have or can sweet talk someone into using.

So with this code there may be another issue at play. A soot sensor may be plugged or of its an older model the dpf pressure sensor’s may be reading incorrect or plugged. If a newer model 2018 and up the soot sensor should always be cleaned when doing filters to prevent this.

I'm just wondering why you need to update the software? only the sensor is faulty, ... I conclude that the problem is not in the sensor, but in the malicious programming of the failure by the manufacturer, they simply extort money from the owners of the equipment.

Realistically without a computer you can’t test the sensors. But if that’s your only code than yes your inlet nox sensor is failing. The only way to know for sure is have someone with a diag computer test the system and find out if there’s any other issues.
