Infiniti JX35 / QX60 - Throttle Body Relearn

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Have you done something with your throttle body recently? Maybe cleaned it or replaced it? Or cleaned your Mass Air Flow Sensor? Have you noticed the car is idling oddly? You may need to perform a relearn procedure.
For Nissan and Infiniti, they use a program called CONSULT, but this procedure will work in replacement to it.
This worked for 2013 Infiniti JX35, and 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 QX60. It should work with the same generation Nissan Pathfinder, but I have not tested this.
I have performed both a throttle body and MAF cleaning, and did not need to do this. But it may still come up.
I also mentioned to let the car warm up to just past the half way point on the temperature gauge. This should have been just before the halfway point

    My question is what is the purpose of doing this reset? Is it something to try if the car isn't running well or just a general maintenance procedure to do once in awhile?

  • @NexusAuto

    @NexusAuto

    Great question. Really, you should never really need to do this if the car is running fine...I haven't done it yet on my JX. There is really only 2 reasons to do it. 1. As you mentioned, if the car is running really poorly and the issue cannot be located (plugs, wires, fuel injection, etc is all good) this is worth a try to reset to factory settings. But I never recommend this as a first go. 2. The more common reason to do it is if you do some work on the car, particularly on the MAF or throttle body, and the car is running worse than it should. This is very rare...the PCM should be capable of adjusting for these changes. But if the MAF of TB were really bad, sometimes this reset is needed. It's worth noting I've done hundreds of throttle and maf cleanings, on all types of cars(German, American, Japanese, Korean, British), and never once had to reset the throttle body. But it can happen.

    I ham having a weird issue with 2013 jx35. I am throwing p0171 and p 0174. My short term trim jumps to from 0 to 25% at idle. It will idle high at 25% and suddenly a valve on the (passenger) left side (brown connector) will click and it will drop the rpm to ~600 and shortterm fuel trim drops to 0. Then that valve will click, and it will go back up. I didnt detect any leaks. any idea whats up?

    Hmmm, hard to say without being there to test myself. Considering you are seeing both codes, it's more than likely an air issue. You are definitely on the right track. If I am getting the left side valve with the brown connector, that would be the vacuum controlled Electronic Engine Mount. It is possible one of the vacuum lines is leaking, but you indicated checking it out and no leaks found. So I would say to keep that in mind, but leave it for now. Generally speaking, I would be looking at the MAF first. It could be dirty or malfunctioning. The throttle body could be dirty too. Or just as seen in this video, the TB may need to be reset. All of those can trigger the codes too. While I can't say this is the issue for sure. I have heard of a fair bit of Pathfinders and QX60s/JX35s getting those codes and 85% of the time it comes down to the MAF. So maybe start there. Otherwise, I am not sure.

    Great video!, Currently My QX60 2015 the Heated Steering wheel doesn't work, I want to try testing the fuse or relay of it, it's the easiest way to find possible problems. but I can't find it. even i have checked all the manual and online search. Do you have any idea? thanks.

  • @NexusAuto

    @NexusAuto

    Unfortunately, there is no direct single fuse for the heated steering wheel. It is run through the BCM. So if the fuse goes, it would shut down other systems too. There is 2 fuses, and they control multiple functions. In the car, it is fuse number 14, and under the hood, it is in fuse box 2, fuse number 'O'. However, I doubt its this one, as this is the BCM fuse and you would have lost lots of functions if this fuse had blown. Hope this helps.

    @@yaocanada I pulled it up in the service manual, and located it. From the service manual, it is located in the passenger side, as you said. But it looks like it located inside the car, behind the dashboard, far left corner. Think below the speaker/tweeter in the a-pillers. This is based on what I see in the manual, but did not confirm it. Not sure how to get to it at this time either.

    Quick question my check engine light came on when I first tried to relearn now it seems it can’t relearn because of the check engine light now the codes doesn’t want to throw out with fixed code reader

  • @NexusAuto

    @NexusAuto

    9 ай бұрын

    Hmmm. That's hard to say. It's true, the relearn will not work properly if the check engine light is on. But without knowing that code, you won't be able to diagnose it. I would start with making sure all connectors are connected properly. Obvious, I know. But it never hurts to double check. If the code reader can't pull the codes, I would then check the fuse for the code reader itself. It may have blown, and the reader can't pick it up.

    Hey nexus question my qx60 is sluggish and hesitant when I go on hill even when I drive it doesn't drive smooth can a bad wheel bearing be the cost of that?

  • @NexusAuto

    @NexusAuto

    2 жыл бұрын

    A bad bearing could cause that, but there is 2 types of hesitation. One where the engine and drivetrain feels like it wants to go, but something is holding it back (like if the brake was applied). This could possibly be a bad bearing. The other hesitation is if the engine or transmission feel like that are not performing at the right level. This would indicate something else. Hard to really explain it, but hope that helps. Also, although not 100% for sure, there is often a noise accompanied with the bad wheel bearing. I know you just did the transfer case...did all go well with that for sure?

    @@NexusAuto it seems that everything went just fine thanks for asking. The wheel bearing on right rear is making noice but it had the problem for like 6 months but I didn't fix yet the car hold back as if the parking break is applied. It does have the shutter problem as well have you ever done a valve body on the car or do you know of the qx60 has transmission issues?

  • @NexusAuto

    @NexusAuto

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@ashramdhan1582 that's great news on the transfer case. I would go after that wheel bearing for sure. That noise and 'parking brake' feel can definitely make the car sluggish. If you fix it, you are already fixing an issue you know you have, and you can see if the sluggish issue persists. I have not done the valve body on this car as of now. There are only 2 real major issues on these cars...the transfer case (which you just fixed) and the CVT transmission. They have a higher than normal failure rate. So that could very well be your issue. But a locking up wheel bearing can give you that feel too.

    @@ashramdhan1582Someone said I may need that transfer case before I had my alternator replaced. I swear its the same problems . instead a lot like before alternator was replaced. The battery and brake light comes on sometimes. Like a quick flash. When on a hill, mine feels like its jumping and lack of power at idle. So how much was the transfer case, I heard very expensive. The alternator cost me $1600 at dealer. They say I now need a radiator cooling fan and I had the lack of power and noise and they said that was the issue. I'm going to try and change that later today. The dealer prices are outragous I've only had this vehicle 16 months and its given me nothing but problems.

  • @NexusAuto

    Yep, you can do this to reset your settings/program your throttle body. The car will run different compared to what you're used to, as it'll have to relearn your driving habits. The best way is to use a scanner to reset throttle settings, but if you don't have that, this is the way

    Hi there. Unfortunately, based on the info you gave me, I won't be able to give a cause. I hear you about saving money, especially after a transmission. Tbh, based on the info you gave me, it sounds like a battery issue. The battery isn't holding voltage, and a low battery can cause a car to go into limp mode. So it may be something simple like that. But without being there to check the battery, alternator, wiring and other systems, I can't say that 100% for sure. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but I would start with checking the battery first (if you haven't already)

    Unfortunately that's a throttle position sensor issue. There are a few things that could be wrong here, so I can't definitively say what it could be. Could be a dirty throttle body, defective throttle body, wiring issue, or in rare cases, a ecm programming issue. It would need proper diagnosis to determine what it is. You could try cleaning the throttle body first and doing this relearn, but can't guarantee it would be the fix
