Infiniti G35 vs Mazda RX-8 vs Genesis Coupe // $10,000 Question

www.autotempest.com/s/ovbTrZ
The 2015 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8, the 2004 Infiniti G35 Coupe, and the 2010 Mazda RX-8 all share one big thing in common - they can be scooped up for about $10,000. But more than price, they share the lovely joy of being naturally aspirated, rear-wheel drive coupes with a manual transmission. Each car presents its own strengths and delicacies, but if you had $10,000 to spend, which of these three would be your choice? Thomas and James spend some time deliberating over which they like most. We hope you enjoy the episode. And then subscribe, silly.
Huge thank you to @mjantzimedia for making their Genesis available to us

Also making sure the engine is fully up to temp before shutting it off is critical. I had a customer at my shop who came in twice within a few weeks of each other for a crank-no-start. I enjoyed your take on the Infiniti G35 Coupe. Although having owned one for 5 years and put over 100k miles on mine, I thought I'd give my take on them. For the money, they are entirely worth it if you can find one that has been taken care of. The 2005-2007 versions of the G35 has an updated DE rev-up(301hp) engine that does wonders in making the car feel quicker in the mid rpms, and increases the redline of the car by a marginal amount compared to the older models (in this review). The redline doesn't even cut fuel after 7400, and allows you to maintain your top end power, which is where this car really shines. Personally, I have never once had my car skip a beat when it comes to reliability or other engine related issues, and I really drive my car hard sometimes. As long as you keep up with the basic maintenance, give her good oil, and don't skimp out on cheap parts, it will treat you well. The manual is the only way to go with these cars, as the transmission on these cars are GREAT, and the later models with the cd009 transmission are indestructible! So much so that people use these transmissions in other engine swaps and they can hold an insane about of power. My neighbor has himself a built single turbo 350z with the same exact stock transmission and he is making well over 600whp on one lol. The G35 is one of those cars that is in dire need of upgraded suspension from stock, as it really makes the car feel night and day difference. With some aftermarket coilovers and a few other basic suspension mods, this car can handle SO well. It is easily my favorite part about the car!! All that dead feel in the steering wheel and slight heavy feel in the front of the car disappears, and the car gives you great feedback and that genuine agile sports car feel. I have a pretty meaty tire setup with some slightly aggressive track camber, and you can pull some serious Gs around corners and turns. No other sports car I have driven compares to the handling in this car with some aftermarket work! When it comes to the exhausts on these cars (a touchy subject for these cars I know), the stock exhaust is actually very nice with a great tone and isn't too quiet. However, if you plan to upgrade from your stock exhaust at all, tread lightly! People tend to throw a cheap exhausts or shitty straight pipe on these cars and they just don't sound good at all. BUT, with a nice exhaust system on these cars, they can sound surprisingly good. I have a Motordyne exhaust system on my car, and it really was worth every penny (not cheap though!). It can make the car sound like one of the best NA V6's on the market, and made me enjoy the car tenfold. Just look up "motordyne exhaust system" on KZread and I'm sure you'll understand after that, its a heavenly sound! Overall, I have been seeing these cars make a comeback in recent years, as it seems people are finally starting to realize how much fun they are for the price! However, it is becoming increasingly hard to find ones that are manual, low mileage, and taken care of. I swear they are out there, patience is key! I know I sound like a spokesman or something lmao, but I just wanted to tell others about my wonderful experience with this car in case they were considering one, because I promise they are so worth it. Just ask around and see if someone you know will let you test drive one, because that is exactly how I became interested in these cars. On Christmas Eve my buddy was trying to convince me how great they were, and ended up tossing me the keys to test drive his as an early Christmas present. And now the rest is history! going single turbo soon ;)

I had a 2004 RX-8 that I drove for 4 years (including winters with Blizzaks) and never had an issue. Yes it lacked torque but the 9K redline and amazing handling made up for it. When the lease was up I got the 2008.5 Mazdaspeed 3 but I will always miss the RX-8. I would be tempted to buy this white one if it were for sale, to be honest. Great video guys!

This makes me so sad. I used to own a 2004 RX-8 GT with all the "bits" done. Genuine Mazdaspeed dual canister exhaust, Axial Flow short shifter, BHR midpipe, upgraded Corvette coil packs, OMP maxed out, pre-mix.. the car was a damn joy to drive with the rifle bolt shifter and that screaming motor. I truly, truly miss it.

Pulled into the SCCA tech inspection in a rust bucket Mazda Rotary truck, they laughed. Right up till I walked out w/the 1st place trophy. My Rotary engine was 'Bridge Ported' & had 3inch stainless steel exhaust straight back. Hp unknown. Sounded like two chainsaws making whoopee. But, it broke the rear tires loose shifting into 3rd. Keep it over 5,000 RPM you have more power than you need. Do not underestimate rotary engines, just make sure you know what you're getting into if you get one.

I think the best option out of the 3 is the RX8. I think despite the reliability and maintenance fears, its the one the car community still thinks is a cool car and can respect the work into maintaining it and dealing with a rotary and there is kind of a specialness to it. The g35 and genesis give off kind of a f boy vibe, at least in the area I'm from, every single one of these on the road or at a meet is trashed and banged up. very rare to see a clean build

I’ve daily driven a 2013 2.0t Genesis Coupe for the past 6 years and it is without a doubt one of the most underrated and enjoyable daily sports cars out there. It has plenty of power, makes all the right noises, has useable backseats and storage space, handles nicely, is quite comfortable to cruise in at high speeds, and is easy to work on and maintain. The gen 2 2.0s in particular have incredible tuning potential and are the rarest of the rare models due to them only being produced in 2013-14. Plus there isn’t really any other turbocharged RWD sports car from this era. Sure you could get an eco boost mustang but then you also have to live with the stigma of not having the V8. They’re the best cars to ever come out of Korea imo, and i am forever disappointed at Hyundai N for refusing to create a new flagship RWD Hyundai sports car to undercut the new Z and Supra.
