Lamborghini Murcielago Review // A Brutal Legend
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
A 2002 Lamborghini Murcielago and Batman have one thing in common, they're not for Jokers. Naturally aspirated, all-wheel drive, manual transmission and a mid-engined V12 engine make this a four-wheeled beast. Like the 355 we recently tested, this car exists at the crossroads of modern and classic. But where does that leave it compared to the modern day? And for the prices people are now asking for these, does it still have a place in this digital world? Thomas and James spend some time deliberating over it, while giving it a little push on some backroads. We hope you enjoy the episode. And then subscribe, silly.
Huge thank you to Autoboutique for letting us borrow their Murci. Find it for sale here! www.autotrader.ca/a/lamborghi...

I picked my girlfriend up at the airport Friday morning after work and was graced with the presence of a Murcielago on the way home. He pulled up next to me, correctly deduced I was an enthusiast from my car, and cruised next to me for a bit to let me enjoy that V12 sound. Gave me a thumbs up, dropped two gears, and took off through traffic. About 15 minutes after I got home, I got the notification for this video. Impeccable timing.

I forget how young these two guys are, then one of them comments that "a phone of the era" wouldn't fit in the storage compartment but it will fit a "modern phone" - 2001 - phones were literally getting so small you would have to fumble around in your pocket for them. I had an Ericsson T28 back then IIRC, it was a fraction of the size of my current phone, and it wasn't the smallest you could get at the time. Part of the reason Steve Jobs insisted the iPhone only needed a 3.5" screen is he was worried anything bigger would put people off buying it because they were so used to phones getting tinier and tinier by 2007.

First of all, the Murciélago has the final descendant of the Bizzarini V12, which traces its roots back to the company's founding. The story goes that Ferrucio Lamborghini told Bizzarini he'd get a bonus for every horsepower over 300 it made. Bizzarini smashed the target by making it rev to over 9000. Lamborghini promptly fired him because the goal was to make something civilized. That engine's insanity, accidental or not, would go on to define the brand. It was replaced when the Aventador came out. Secondly, there's an anecdote which states that in period factory tours, the Gallardo production line was clean, state-of-the-art. Everything fit, everything was organized. Very German. The Murciélago's side was a disaster, with swearing, smashing with hammers to get things to mount, wires and tools strewn everywhere. It in many ways was the last true Italian Lamborghini. (If you want to hear more about these, go listen to the Carmudgeon Show.) Great video, guys.
@MichaelH-ck4hg

I’m glad you pointed out that it was the last use of that V12. I already knew that, but I doubt most people seeing this video would know. I’ve heard this one multiple times in person, and the newer one in the Aventador. Both sound great, but I prefer the sound of the older one. It seems to have a higher pitch that reminds me more of the sound of an older 3.5 liter F1 car. I heard one with straight pipes and it was amazing. I was also next to an Aventador SV being reved up. Sounded great too, but lacked that high end musical sound of this one. Of course to each their own.

@@charles-davidberube1174 @charles-davidberube1174 you can disagree thats opinions but you are mistaken on murcielago not being audi. In 1996 concept Acosta was designed as the diablo replacement. In 1997 concept canto was designed as replacement. When audi purchased Lamborghini in 1998 they scrapped both concepts. Murcielago is an Audi car. Even looks like one. You cant find the Italian flair of countach and diablo anymore.. its more brutalist design and a VWfication. So all in all diablo and countach are still the kings. Its was the first lambo designed by a Belgian and not Italian and produced by audi and not Lamborghini

I know right! I feel like advocating for walkable cities and reducing car dependency with every passing day nowadays. Once the good old cars like this and cheaper ones are gone and/or unaffordable in the future, cars as a hobby will be dead to me. Might as well ride a bike and walk rather than drive a planned obsolescence newer car. Newer cars keep breaking sooner and sooner every year. Even Toyota isn’t safe.

@@TheMachRider True to a point. Boomers still had many more fun new cars to drive, though. We're now living through a forced transition from ICE's to silent/soulless electric power trains, and autonomous tech will eventually remove the driver entirely. I wouldn't consider prior advancements such as carburetors to fuel injection as on par with the changes we're experiencing now.

The 10-15% rule is enough - especially if you make even more with multiple streams of income. My investment properties pay for my exotics cars. It's many different things you can do to afford easily and responsibly. You don't need a million cash to afford a cheap 100k car, My first exotic was 100k put down 20k- financed 80k. Then traded up to more expensive cars. Now I have an Aventador, so it's not hard at all, Especially if you are making 20-25k plus a month with little to no debt with multiple streams and assets that produce income.
The sound work on this video, combined with the editing really works to give a feel for the car. Immersive. It's great on the big AKG copies I have on. You can't say that for every car video out there. I wish for more like that. Great work! Throttle House rules!

This was the first Lamborghini that the VW-Audi group had any involvement in, but it was designed largely by the people at Lamborghini, which is why the interior feels less like an Audi and is a bit more industrial, but wrapped in leather. The Gallardo is the one that really showed the most influence from VW-Audi. A lot of people love the Murcielago, but I will always have a soft spot in my heart for the Gallardo.

There's a white one in parked in the carpark of my condo complex that has been sitting in the same spot for over 10 years, just collecting dust. But it still looks good even with the dust. Amazingly whoever the owner is, is still paying the taxes and registration fees on it. Just not driving it. I park my car next to it when there aren't any "prime" spots available because: 1. it's not going to move so I don't have to worry about door dings 2. It's a scissor door so it's not going to give me door dings IF it moves. Parked next to it, it makes my 911 look like a Beetle.
I remember trying to entertain myself all the way through gradeschool by doodling... This car was what I doodled. Nonstop. I'll never forget trying to draw those curvy things inside the headlights.
