I ended up purchasing a WRX recently and even at the premium trim I don't know what car you can get an awd, turbo, 6 speed for under $35k. I paid $32.5k out the door for mine two months ago. I had my eye on a GR Corolla for a few months but the dealers wanted more than I was willing to pay. I am really happy with my WRX but I think they both seem like great cars overall.

It's an absolute steal. Have a 23 premium. Paid around 34.5k, but They weren't offering the deals a year ago that they are today. Absolutely love the car at 10k miles. Had a mishimoto catch can on it for 7k miles, but noticed oil consumption in the colder months. Took it off and the consumption went away. Definitely not worth the trouble if you live anywhere where it gets below freezing. Have heard better things about the IAG AOS, but am just going to leave it stock.

OMFG!?! Skip the ad?? Nah let him cook!! I had a 16 wrx that i bought new and owned for over 6 years, it was the best car I've ever owned. Had it stage 2 bolt ons with an off the shelf tune, while it wasn't the fastest thing ( couldn't ever take any Infiniti g35/g37 or nissan maxima) it was definately plenty to get you into trouble. Tire setup were pilot sports 4s in the summer and it felt like it was on rails, i never reached the grip limit, and x-ice in the midwest winters and the thing was an absolute tank. After 6 years of ownership it only depreciated $16,000, only mechanical problem i had was the throw out bearing in the clutch fork sticking, had to have 2 clutch replacements under 30k mi. Even though i had been driving manuals for over 10 years. As for practicality one Thanksgiving i placed 4 8' tables and 20 folding chairs in it. The car did everything well, it had personality, it turned into a living thing, the wrx is a truely special car, i genuinely miss it. Thanks Mark and Jack and team for the awesome content.

I own a 2022 Limited WRX with the 6-speed manual. As a car enthusiast who’s gotten used to modifying, tracking, selling, rinse-and-repeating, I find it extremely difficult finding something to replace this pedestrian rally car with. The car I really wanted initially (Type R) has a massive price delta (even at MSRP), and the GR Corolla just didn’t do it for me when I sat in one. Aside from the road noise on the highway, the interior is pretty nice (Limited model helps a bit) and nothing comes close for value-for-dollar as a performance/practicality blend vehicle. The driver controls are all intuitive, and although I absolutely HATE the infotainment screen, it plays music better than any of my old Japanese tin cans. All in all, it’s a great buy for most folks. I’ve owned and driven quite a few cars for my age, so I may have different expectations and demands from a do-it-all type of car. I still think I’d be happier in a Type R, but I also find it difficult throwing the additional 20k-or-so after taxes to make the switch. The BRZ is also another compelling option, albeit much smaller (less “do-it-all” for potentially more smiles per mile). Thanks for reading my monologue. 😅 Love what the geese put out, as always. 🪿

One thing I miss about older cars is amount of light and space given to occupants. Modern cars, by a combination of safety features like side curtain airbags, side crash structures, are inherently darker spaces by design. Modern car designers make this worse by generally picking a dark interior palette. Net result is feeling like you’re sitting in a tiny cave.

I keep hearing ppl compare the GRC to the STi hatch, but the hatch is really where the comparison stops. It delivers powers more like the EVO and I love it! How many people stroke their dashboards on a daily basis or really care what technology produces their turn signals? @@David_Journey out of the box the MX-5 needs help. It was dancing around on the highway with a poor stock alignment and the body roll was comical. I’ve already put a new set of springs, lowered it a couple inches, added adjustable dampers on it, and changed the alignment to a tighter response. It does really beg for just a bit more mid-range torque. The brakes are great after some different pads and fluid. No big break kit is needed unless you track it. Tires on a car like this are already very good. Perhaps going an inch wider is all you really need. People supercharge the engine all the time and don’t have to make major modifications. I just think it just needs about 230hp and it would be in the sweet spot any more and it’s overpowered.

    19 күн бұрын

@@David_Journey yes I already know how it drove stock. I own the car. I live in San Diego and it’s full of canyon back roads and sketchy surfaces. I daily my car and do runs with my Miata club. So it lives a full life. I’m telling you now that in stock form it needs some minor adjustments to make it better. That body roll is scary in some corners and the shocks are way too soft. You can pitch the car into oversteer very easily on a double S curve. The car is under sprung. If you don’t drive on very curvy roads and drive on well maintained roads like at less than 50% then stock is a peach, except on the highway. Stock alignment provides an unsteady amount of play in the wheel and it tends to feel a bit darty above 60mph. Especially concrete freeway. If you drive with any kind of spirit, then you need it more focused. It only took about $2k installed to make it drive so much better and there is zero body roll. It’s like a go-cart and it soaks up bumpy pavement much better with some quality dampers like the Konis I have installed that only takes a few moments to set from racing to smooth before you go driving. In stock form, the body roll is there so you get the feeling of speed without actually going fast. I guess we will call it personal preference. I do guarantee that with equal tires I will outpace any stock Miata and feel less stress doing it. Now that extra HP I’m asking for would be great with a club edition and some actual stiffer springs.

I have a 2021 WRX and just about all the points about the VB are the reason I won't be trading in for a VB. The character of the FA20 is similar to the 1.6 in the GR, peaky boost and stronger torque hit makes it more aggressive at corner exit without having to be in higher RPM. Other than the brakes, every other issue is a cost that is incurred no matter what. I've already rebuilt all the shifter components, new billet short throw shift plate, solid bushings and shift stops, slightly stiffer suspension components. With a slightly better intercooler and a very mild tune the VA WRX is incredibly competent and I spent a fraction of the cost of a TR. Also I'll take the older infotainment in the previous gen to the horrid system Subaru is using in everything now.

You guys really do pick bangers for your music in your videos. Oh the comparison is ok too I guess ;)

That green on the GR is really nice. I do wish they had more color options. I'm considering a premium version but can't get that in blue.

If you can afford a new car you can afford a repaint...that being said, yes....Toyota needs more color options on their sports cars. I just repainted my car myself.

@@fortheloveofnoise9298 Sure a $10k+ repaint... A wrap is certainly an option but even those get pricey.
