You see this in sports all the time, the coach not seeing eye to eye with their players. I grew up here in the UK soccer culture, it's so common, it's not even controversial, especially involving 'big name' players. I couldn't imagine a soccer coach here or Europe getting fired because of 'controversial' comments they've made about their players during a press conference.

@@tudormiller887 a lot of those leagues and clubs are better established, and pay a pretty penny. This league is in a critical time of growth where a lot of ppl are watching that aren’t necessarily hardcore fans, and just like a KZread intro, if they don’t get what they want to see early enough on, they’re clicking away and never coming back. The league knows that. So imo, the only mistake here was mentioning the deep shots, as that’s pretty much THEE highlight that circulates and gets their digital impressions through the roof, etc

The Wnba is going through a Renaissance and this is just the beginning of alotta changes that are gonna come on top of it...The era of personality players is here and it's exactly what the W needs to drive in the influence in theur favor...Angel CC KC Cameron Brinks Kate Martin and the rest of em are operating like ball players on the court but off the court they're operating like influencers online etc taking a very good and much needed advantage of the power of the internet 👍 as they should...I never been into women's bball but seeing this n watching unfold is mind-boggling...As long they keep it about basketball and and being inspiring the explosion is gonna continue to happen...I think the keys are learning a lesson from this too...

They are reactionary instead of being proactive. Sides believes in her players running around haphazardly hoping that they get lucky. PRACTICE setting up effective screens with repetitive drills. The same with drills for proactive passes to include running to open spaces relatively free from defensive players. The Fever players camp out under or near the basket no matter if they are open or not. They need to develop quick hands and quick reactions ... that comes from drills to develop those skills. The players are capable, but the coach is not. I have seen high school teams with better offensive skills and that is Christie Sides' fault. She is not doing her job. Magic and Bird went off the charts with crazy passes, Bird was given the green light to shoot at any time, wherever he was on the court, and Micheal maximized all the things he did best! Yes, they all played in a system, but that system was molded around what they did best, which ultimately translated into winning and benefited everyone on the team!

Based on what I've seen so far, all this "hate" has been correct criticism. She needs work on a few things, like ball handling, the sped of the professional game, and taking better shots. It's gonna take time for her to adjust, which is what most of the women were saying. She's been inefficient, beat off the dribble quite often, and has turned the ball over a lot. That's not hate, that's facts. I think she will get it fixed, but to act like she doesn't need coaching and doesn't need to work on things is crazy.

Damn….it’s going to be a loooong season. Even the team head coach is not allowed to say a negative, disparaging word about God’s gift to women’s basketball, Caitlin Clark. How dare she say Caitlin doesn’t want to run the offensive sets, but wants to just stand by the 3 point line and jack up shots. Everyone on the team had better get ready. All the loses will be their fault.

We will 100% see Caitlin second guess herself before taking another deep three. Iowa basketball culture teaches respect for your coaches and their advice. When great shooters start to doubt whether or not they are making good choices about when to pull the trigger and shoot that ball they start to miss. I have noticed several times now when this coach has been too forthcoming with the press regarding several of the Fever players. Good coaches support their players in front of the press, guide them wisely on the court during practice and teach them with quick advice on the sidelines during games.

@@curtisball5107 I saw only a few attempts in the first season game to set up screens ... and they were pathetic. Clark's passes are much more effective when the receiver of those passes is prepared for it. She is using the same failed tactics that got the Fever a 13-27 win-loss record in the 2023-24 season.

@curtisball5107 considering that the coach is nothing but a loud mouth, hateful ass person who lost 27 games last year, literally shows that she is incapable of leading a team. Side's needs to be fired, period. There is no reason for a coach to keep throwing their players under the bus the way this Indiana Clown has done with Clark and a few others. Hell she threw Berger and Boston under the bus last year after a few loses. The problem will never be the players but the entire coaching staff and the Fever owners and management office need to get rid of them

The biggest "tell" of her coaching acumen was that she didn't use Clark as her primary ball handler. She will adjust to the size and better quickness she'll encounter in the league because she knows how to play and has an extremely high basketball IQ. It also stunts the chemistry they need to establish so her teammates know how to space and cut when she has the ball. Her history shows she is as effective passing the ball as she is shooting it. But it ain't gonna develop without the ball in her hands and more pace on the offense.

This isn't on a shot. Basically the coach wants to run a motion offense where the guard doesn't stand on the perimeter and go no where. Long 2 is a terrible take. Better shot selection is fine, didn't need her taking/forcing as many, but still can exist within an offense that isn't only on Clark to score/create

Dude, the deep three is the future of the WNBA. The NBA has the mind boggling dunks, crazy spinning layups and automatic threes. What you don’t see as much is the 40 foot bombs that CC hits regularly. This is where women’s basketball can evolve. The men”s game doesn’t need it but fans love seeing these women hitting threes from half court. Call it a gimmick but fans will pay to see it.

She can’t play the same way like she played in college this is a different level and she’s gotta play at a different level. She gotta play better Defensive and stop pouting when she don’t get the call the fact of the matter is the 90% of the women in the league is better than her ? If she’s a flop blame the coach? This isn’t Iowa with double picks and screens. They put a heavy burden on Catlin and they gotta justify the money ? Don’t be surprise if her old coach pops up . She retired from lowa
