Hi! I just found a family of 6 doing a $10 per person per week($60) grocery haul and meals. It’s Mindful Family on YT. Another great family that you might find interesting is Homesteading Family on YT. They also have a lot of money saving approaches to food for their very large family. Best wishes to you and yours as you take this new journey into focused frugality.

Sorry to see that you get met with judgement and unkindness from some people. The world needs more beautiful people like you! All the best to your family!
Your recipe made AMAZING MEATBALLS too! I used the lentils, your spices, BBQ sauce, oatmeal, egg replacer. I adore your stove, I have a similar, Canadian brand, 1955. Your wall oven was incredible too. SO FANTASTIC! You are both great, the fact you are plant based is just the best. Keep the recipes coming please!!

Great video. We are a Vegetarian family well my wife and 4 kids are and I am a vegan . I have not eaten meat in over 33 years so I can tell you that our Grocery bills are much lower than the average American family on the S.A.D . We don't feel like we miss a thing. This is a great meal and think of all the money and lives you save.
The beauty of your life style is that your family is self content and happy with the life and resource that God has given to you. Just beautiful as it is!
I am so thankful for this recipe. I have bought lentils and didn't know what to do with them. Now I know!!!! I have tried lentil soup and we just don't care for it. I hope this is the first of many recipes to come. May Jesus keep blessing you and your family abundantly.
I am SO HAPPY to find you making this recipe! Vegan here. Thank you! Downloaded the pdf. I'm so grateful you did that for us, too. I'm not tech savvy, so that helped.
Hi, I live in the UK I have a little tip that I use when making baked potatoes. When you put them into a oven stick a metal skewer in it then it cooks in half the time from the inside out and outside in. I do this to every potatoes I also fill the whole of my oven in potatoes not just what I need then wrap the unused potatoes in a bag stick it in the freezer and just microwave or reheat in the oven. Hope this helps your viewers

I've never tried lentils before - this recipe is going on my cooking bucket list 🙂 I'm not vegetarian, but I'm always up for meatless dishes now and then, especially now...

If you're not meatless (or have a family that gives you a hard time about going meatless, lol), you can use lentils to reduce your meat intake and decrease your food budget while still enjoying meat by incorporating the lentils into your ground meat for meals such as meatloaves, spaghetti sauce, sloppy joes, chilis. I think I may try this recipe but use portions of it to incorporate it into some of these other ground meat dishes as well as the burgers.

Definitely going to give this a try. I’m not vegan but I’m not a big fan of hamburger. I will eat it because my husband is big on meat. He was a farm boy. My Dad is the same as me. He doesn’t even like the smell of it cooking. And personally don’t like handling raw meat. This looks really yummy. I may try it with almond flour because I’m gluten intolerant.
Thanks for the video. I would love to see a video where you make your carrot ‘hot dogs’.
Can you guys make a video about when you became vegan and why? 🌱

@@larryware1 That is great 👍. I still use mine, Only one cup has been broken, but, fortunately a friend of mine found a replacement for me.
I love your magic chef stove. When I was a little girl that's what my mother got and we use the heck out of it canning 300 jars of vegetables and fruit every summer plus cooking every meal at home. It was a workhorse. Then 30 years ago when We built our dream house. Guess what stove I bought? A magic chef. I'm starting to have a few problems with it but it has been a workhorse let me tell you. It's not a mainstream brand it's a little cheaper. But when this one dies I plan on getting another magic chef! You bring back memories of my childhood.😊😊
Hope & Larry - those look yummy! Coinky-dink I'm making black bean burgers today w/chopped water-sauteed mushrooms and "flax eggs" (flax meal & water) as a binder. Love the vegan oil-free cooking!!

Hello Y’all I am a fairly new widow. I thought I had plenty of funds for the future and have always been thrifty but current economy has me wondering. I have slowly gone to plant based because of diet (WW) and cost of meats. Today I tried your recipe using an egg for binder and adding a little beef soup base to the mix. Guys it is a win, win,win! Thank you so much, they were delicious! I cut the recipe into 1/4 and got 6 patties, I am thrilled! Now to freeze, I think I got them a little dry but they were great! Thank you, Hugs from Oklahoma

I am so happy you shared this recipe with us! I'm vegetarian and have some vegan and vegetarian family members. This will be a great addition to our affordable options.
I made these burgers tonight and they're wonderful. I added garlic, onion, chili powder, cumin, worcestershire, salt and pepper. 😋 yummy
Hi there! You can also add the seasonings to your cooking lentils so they are seasoned evenly. You may also bloom the spices a little in a little bit of fat before you add it.. will definitely help bring out the flavors!
Those burgers look delicious 😋 😍 👌. I work as a cook and it was great to see your kitchen too. It would be really great if you did more recipes because you often talk about things you make in your kitchen and it would be really interesting to see how you make your recipes and you go through your methods very clearly which is really helpful for people who may not alwayscook from scratch. Thanks, Double DD. Welcome to the Under the Median family.
I just love your channel. Practical info w good sense of humor. Im 75, &raised by depression era parents, mom raised on dairy farm, career as nurse. Dad raised by single mom . Both carried over keeping pantry well stocked to cover a yr, plus a milk cow, beef & chickens...horses for riding lessons, father created lumber business primary product pallets. I made a couple days ago refried black bean burgers. Used one can, some leftover brown rice, a custard cup of leftover peas, some oatmeal, 1 egg, some almond milk, seasonings ie garlic, onions, smoked paprika,...thanks for the 1/3 cup portion. Baking the remaining mixture to freeze. Had eaten one on Wed, so today remainingmix made 11 patties. I live alone so i love freezing portions for quick meals...i live in Chippewa Falls ,WI about 80 miles east of Mpls/StPaul, MN. Can get canned veggies at Walmart 57cents per can, frozen 88 cents to 1.55 or so...Aldi, 5lbs of flour 1.49...sardines 89 cents , canned salmon was over $2... thanks 4 ur wisdom...love it.
I love your burgers. Now that food is getting so expensive recipes like this help a lot. What I have been doing is making burgers but mostly with chickpeas and wheat berries. I took a tuna fish can and added a machine screw and use it to make a press so I can make perfectly round little burgers. I put them on my Panini Grill and cook them for 15 minutes. I have a video of it on my channel but it's so simple you don't really need a video. Just add a little machines screw to the lid of a tuna fish can and put a wooden bead on the end and you have your own hamburger or veggie burger press. I just finished making my own tofu turkey Italian sausages. Your channel has a lot of good tips on saving money and being frugal and I really appreciate that and I'm happy to be a subscriber.
Thanks for the recipe! We routinely use lentils for lentil tacos and lentil meatloaf, but we've never used them for burgers so we'll have to try them! Our go-to burger recipe is Pioneer woman black bean burgers. Might I suggest using grated fresh onion in the mixture to add flavor and help with binding? Another idea might be adding a "flax egg" or two!

The Meatless Mama another commentor, I think, is looking for a lentil meatloaf recipe. Yes, I'd definitely add grated onion for flavor!
Your lentil burgers look delicious. I make a batch of them and individually and put them into the freezer. I have also on a work day before I leave the house I pull a few of my lentil burgers out to unthaw while I'm at work, when I get home from work it's nice to have them semi ready. I feel so prepared having my lentil burgers almost ready, it makes it easy as not to pick up fast food ( which we almost never do ).
Last week, I told someone at work that 4 stick of butter lasts me a full year and one small bottle of olive oil is still going strong after 3 years. They looked at me like I had three heads!

Thanks for your recipe, looks great. I've found a combo of lentils, oats and black beans to be a nice balance of textures sometimes using mung as a binder. Kicks up the cost slightly but a great alternative to animal products that I have been steering away from. I add mounds of alfalfa sprouts and its awesome

Did you use equal parts of the ingredients?
@LayZeeDawg
2 жыл бұрын
@@DH-wx4iz I rarely measure out the ingredients, kind of just eye it out but I would estimate it to be equal part black bean to lentil and maybe 1/2 to 3/4 cup of rolled oats. Similar to the Planta burger by Chef David Lee although I omit many of the ingredients he uses as some of the items like Bella mushrooms would double the cost.
@LayZeeDawg
2 жыл бұрын
@@DH-wx4iz oh, one more thing I did forget... The cooked black beans retain much more water than lentils so the amount of water that Hope uses would be way too much if you replace black beans for lentils. I'd start with 1/2 the amount and work up
