Think of it this way... Seals have full range of motion, sharp teeth, powerful bite, and a mouth teaming with bacteria. It's a really bad combo. If his bite doesn't kill you, the infection likely will.

Thank you for your inquiry but I’m not professional about animals. I’m just a student. So far, I’ve learned that the reason for the touching restriction is because we have to prevent animals from getting used to humans. If we keep playing with them, they will recognize humans as non-threat. It results in more numbers of poaching and killings by bad people, because they just don’t run away from them. @@deceitfulviper I really don't think it would've made a difference. The fact that they didn't actively attack it or try to scare it off is enough to teach it not to be afraid of them. Offering food would be a different thing because it would teach the seal to actively seek out humans in hopes of receiving food. The simple act of petting it or touching I don't think would motivate it to approach humans anymore than their behavior in this video did.

I'd love this and I know it's an extremely good reason to not pet them, but that would be so hard to resist a gentle petting of a sea doggo. Especially when it's obviously so curious of you. This team had such great resistance to petting the cuteness!

@@holygamer5525 just read it. #1 that's for the U.S., im in Canuckistan, and the video is in the north, so your rules dont apply. #2 every single quoted case involved extensive and egregious handling. Almost all quoted cases involved the pup being physically removed from the beach and taken home. One case was taken to the car. One case saw the pup handled by ppl and dogs for the whole day. Obviously that's not what i mean. I repeat: pet the chonky fool 😎

@@williamunderhill427 Ill admit that might have not been the best article to give to you but a point still stands, you are still not allowed to pet these lovable blobs since laws in most countries say so with the exception of professionals like researchers. for me its a dumb law but understandable, seals are quite endangered due to the fact that some twats like to capture these seals and sell them for their meat. Now the reason why this situation is correlated with petting them is because one, the seals might think that humans are friendly where in fact there are people who are NOT friendly. Two, if you start to pet them they will grow attached to you and that can cause some problems for example, they might not want to go back to their parents which is a total D-move. I understand your urge to pet them but for the sake of them not getting slaughtered for their meat and possibly cutting off their connections with their family I suggest you control your urges. there will be a time. P.S: I actually wanted to use an article from PETA but you know that their articles can be biased and unrealistic sometimes I don't want to sound rude but its the real world, there are good activists and there are bad activists

They were on an eco-tour - the rule is "don't touch the animals" but if the animals touch you it's okay to sit there quietly. It's for everyone's safety: Mama Seal is the size of an SUV, and if she shows up you don't want to be caught hugging her 300lb baby.

This would have to have been the experience of a lifetime! A Once in a Lifetime opportunity. This seal is so adorable and curious and gentle. I Want One! ❤

I like people who can only see race and make everything about race, people like MLK would for sure be proud. Discrimination based on race is racism which is ironically (ironic because you'd most likely say you're against racism) what you're doing here. Also, look at all the affection they show each other in areas with homogeneous/majority black populations. Places like Chicago and Nigeria and Rwanda are doing great with all their innate affection they have from being non-white.

Elephant seals are the largest pinnipeds in the world. (Pinnipeds is the family of mammals that includes seals, sea lions and walrus.) A full-grown male elephant seal gets up to about 6 thousand pounds, and in some cases 8 thousand pounds. They can stay underwater up to 100 minutes at a time, which is the longest of any non-cetacean (whales and dolphins) mammal. Very amazing creature. :)

I think it’s illegal because if they get too close to humans they aren’t able to determine which are friendly and which aren’t. So the poor cute things will just scoot boop right up to a hunter. It also could be it messed with their heads about other animals but I’m not too positive on that. Especially if they’re pups
