    The problem here is you can say that all you want, but even with the neglect here it's still treated better than it would be in a shelter. Shelters are already extremely overrun and have serious issues getting homes for dogs. Thta's why Victoria started her show.. to help people learn more about how to take care of their dogs rather than being people like you that just see something and go "SHIP IT OFF TO A SHELTER IT'S SLIGHTLY NEGLECTED!!" and yes, by comparison to what a lot of dogs in the world go through, this is only slight neglect.

    +L G-I believe later on in the episode, the family refuse to commit to more time with Peanut Butter so they agree to rehome her. And I believe they originally took in Peanut Butter because she was being neglected even worse in her original home, and they were told she needed a home fast. So they agreed to take in a dog that already went through a considerable amount of neglect and trauma, didn't understand why the dog was having problems with their other dogs (because in part, Peanut Butter was not used to the presence of any dogs), and thought it was a good idea just to isolate Peanut Butter in an empty area with no company for most of the day where they were only making the poor dog's problems far worse. If you are taking in a dog that has been neglected or abused, you have to take the extra time to take care of them and teach them to adjust to a normal, happy life. If you have other dogs, it may not be a good idea to take in a neglected dog because you don't know how they will react to other dogs. But you should always make the time to give them a lot of love and care and rehabilitate them. Otherwise, you're just causing unnecessary tension and sadness with the dog. Peanut Butter didn't appear to be a bad dog. Just a dog that didn't know how to handle herself around other dogs. I think with more time and care, the family could've kept her. But because they didn't want to commit to this dog any further, they actually did the right thing and agreed that she needed to find a better home where the family would take care of her. I've only seen two dogs rehomed in this show so far. Even time, Victoria only uses it as an absolute last resort because she believes that training the owners to train the dog will lead to a happier outcome. And all that is usually needed is more time and care from the owners. But if the owners make the decision to rehome the dog, Victoria accepts it is their choice regardless, and she will offer help with rehoming the dog if need be.

    This show should be renamed: "It's Me or the Owner!" The woman is far too passive. Her kids - who live in her house - don't help her with the dog, and she allows that. Peanutbutter is hyper, so just gets dumped outside with no shelter rather than trained or properly walked, she notes there's broken glass in Peanutbutter's enclosure, but does nothing about it, she notes Peanutbutter chokes herself on a (horrid retractable) leash but does nothing about it. Even if you've not heard of a head-collar, getting a harness would be common-sense; sure, it would still have the problem of enabling Peanutbutter's pulling, but at least she wouldn't be choking herself. No wonder the kids don't care much for looking after the dog with the example that's been set.

    Oh we actually have something like. It is something like dog owning license. There is a written Examen, where they test your knowledge of dog language and how to care for a dog. After that there is a test where they cover everything in actual life that could affect anyone. So they Must be able to do the the basic commands, must be able to walk on a leash and without one. And they test the behaviour of the owner in different situations. If the dog for example reacts to another dog or a bicycle, the examiner grades how the human acts. Not the dog. It is about how the dog is corrected. If you fail, you can retake the test. If it doesn’t work out after three times of failings, the dog will be rehomed. I haven’t heard of someone failing the test yet. This system is not perfect, but it has definitely improved human dog relationships.

    @@groooah That's a first step. I'd make it a requirement for most pets, actually....

  • @groooah

    @groooah

    4 жыл бұрын

    Agnes Metanomski That is actually the thing that is most commonly criticised. Most dog training facilities offer their own dogs or dogs of owners who have already passed the test. There are also loopholes that are still under discussion. Everyone that can prove that they have owned a dog in the span of twenty years, doesn’t have to take the test. We also fell in the category like so many others. We took the test despite that. It is only beneficial after all. The dog licence is still a very new concept and issues are currently worked out. And yes I am absolutely for a general license before anyone is allowed a pet. A lot of schools do something like that. It is of course not an official paper or anything, but the students learn the basics about animal care.

PB was brought home by the oldest daughter and NONE of the other kids wanted the dog, in fact the son actually said that he hated PB and wanted the dog to be re-homed. By the end the family continued training PB with the intention of re-homing her. So everyone was happy in the end, PB went to a home more equip for the high energy prey drive, the older dog got to live in peace again, and the kids got their normal lives back.

    @@youreinvalid8493 Oh I agree with the training coming first. Definitely. Any tool can become dangerous with an untrained dog & uneducated owner. I'd say that they used the head collar improperly here. Victoria should have gotten the dog completely comfortable with the head collar first, before walking, and then trained the dog not to pull when he has it on, rather than just going out and letting him pull. Its dangerous. The dog clearly has no problem pulling with it on, and will only become more desensitized to it over time. It likely wont stop the pulling. Especially when the owners are the way that they are. A dog can not pull on a prong. A lot of people think that its sharp/stabs the dog, but theyre really made to apply even pressure around the neck until they stop pulling, then theres an immediate release. No pain, just discomfort. Probably less discomfort than the head collar, and definitely less discomfort than a slip lead. As long as its placed and sized properly. I think people are turned off by it because it looks intimidating, but if you put it around your own neck, you'll find that it doesnt hurt. Its just pressure. I just would never recommend a harness in a case of a dog with severe issues with pulling, unless the dog has some sort of physical condition that make a harness safer for said dog.

    They have two Pomeranians and one blind dog, peanut butter kept trying to attack Samantha (the blind one), so they had to keep peanut butter outside. I agree that they should be more responsible. The whole reason why peanut butter was outside in the first place is because she kept attacking samantha

    When we first adopted our dog, he pulled like Peanut Butter on walks. We started using a head collar and once he got used to it, it made such a difference! Even though with training he walks much better on the leash, we still always use a head collar when we walk him in new places.
