We need your input for our upcoming Halloween episode, so pay special attention to the end of the video. Thanks.
Journey with us to a land of sword, sorcery, crappy CGI and rubber-suited bad guys, as we hack into Uwe Boll's clumsily-named "In The Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale". (Note: There are no dungeons or sieges in the movie).
In 'Seen It' we discuss Kevin Smith, A Clockwork Orange and another movie on Matt's "hated movies" list.
All film footage is used in accordance with fair use and US copyright law. All music in the show is used with full permission of the composer.
Thanks for all the great comments. Keep em coming! If you watch one of the movies we discuss, let us know what you thought of it.
Welcome To The Basement" is a show about watching, discussing and having fun with movies. Matt choses the movie and Craig doesn't know what it is until the cameras start rolling, so none of the discussion or riffing is planned ahead of time.
Movie announced on facebook before every new episode. Get the movie and follow along.

While Fireball is a third-level spell, Wizards acquire third-level spells at... fifth level.
The funny thing about Uwe Boll is that he fought his opponents in Vancouver, BC. My hometown. And he still lives here. So it's possible for me to go egg his house if you guys want.

I tried watching this movie on my PS3 and it refused to play it after 30 minutes in, I took it as a divine message from above and never finished it.

That certainly does seem to be a sign.
nothing says Directing prowess like "I'll punch you in the face to prove your opinion of me is wrong"
When Matt said "I think that was a ninja turtle" I lost it

+Viraus2 Gimme a turnip, dammit !!
absolutely hated this movie, and re-enforced the idea to never watch Uwe Boll movies. The only thing that made this worse, knowing they made a sequel.
"Your present is too big to fit in this box" IT'S UWE BOLS EGO!!!
They forgot to mention the part where Uve Boll uses "The Producers" level scheming by abusing German Tax Law to get massive tax returns when his movies always flop. Also he's ruined multiple video game movies. Not a great guy :/

Not to mention how incredibly pretentious and full of himself he is.

Thank you guys very very much. Love the show, never stop doing this. You are both look incredibly organic in this basement talking about movies of all kinds of genre. So comfortable and domestic atmosphere you made, that is one of the main reasons why i love the show. Thank guys.
There's nothing I love better than intelligent people typecasted as villains while the "workin' man" is the default hero. Thanks, Uwe.
I love rewatching this show because I always find new favorite jokes. That "scrolls of flesh" comment is my latest one.
I always look forward to and enjoy welcome to the basement. Very good stuff, thank you.
Thank you, Matt. I couldn't agree more with your assessment of Kevin Smith.
Braveheart + LOTR + Gladiator - plot - characters you care about = In the Name of the King

+Callum Mahoney A perfect summary...well done, sirrah !!
I loved the magical riff that came on when the Box was Empty.
Just spent today catching up on all the episodes of this lovely lovely show. Thank you for all the work you put into this series. As a movie recommendation, I'd like to recommend something I saw recently that was an enjoyable psychological study - the 1963 movie "The Servant" with Dirk Bogarde.
Scanners! Also, thank you again for another wonderful video.
I love this series so much.
I can't believe you guys watched anything by Uwe Boll. Great episode!
You guys were on fire in this episode. I hope Craig picks Suspiria or Scanners, I think those would provoke the best combination of discussion and comedy.
I am addicted to this series. Keep up the great work guys. Have you seen the cult classic urban kung fu flick, The Last Dragon?
i really, really love this show. it is getting better and better.
Glad I found your guys' channel, you're hilarious! Subbed.
Awesome choice guys, and thanks for reading my suggestions !
Ironically, I saw this movie in theaters when it came out, and my friend and I actually left during the big forest fight scene. I had a headache at the time, and we decided that it really.... *really* wasn't worth staying for. Didn't think of it a whole lot until I saw it on here.
as usual, wonderful ep. Even if Craig doesn't pick The Wolf Man, you gotta do that one some time - one of the true classics of Universal horror...although I was always a bigger fan of the Mummy - found that one much more terrifying as a kid!
I really love this show. I wish episodes were more frequent. I look forward to the Halloween episode.... I hope Craig picks Scanners.
Yay! My favorite series.
Oh god. As a German myself I must say that making another person watch a Uwe Boll movie should be a crime.
awesome thanks guys
I was really excited when I rented this DVD years ago and I guess that just shows how much of an optimist I am. Flat sums up the movie pretty well..thanks for the great episode! P.S. I visualised the "make love to your brain" compliment too..aargh! That's one for the Halloween episode :D
jesus christ Shaggy, why do you keep popping up in movies i dont expect to see you in. first as The Cereal Killer in Hackers, and now this
I felt similarly to you, Matt, concerning Kevin Smith films, until RED STATE. That movie took me by surprise and blew me away. It crosses genres and breaks formulas and of course there's also MICHAEL PARKS.
I hope you got round to seeing the The Fearless Vampire Killers, love that movie. In the UK during the 80s it seemed to be a regular feature on BBC2 late night at the weekends.
I get the feeling that the vast majority of that 60 million went into pulling all those known actors to be in this garbage.
That was probably the last time a movie was able to create genuine fear in me. The "Latin Speaking Man" proved to be extremely disturbing to me, coupled with Sam Neill translation of the words was nearly too much! It still provokes a feeling of unease after all these years. *shiver* As I am not readily scared, and my seeking out such thrills being a continuing habit; I think back upon my viewing of Event Horizon with great fondness. Also, Lawrence Fishbourne being a complete "baddass"!
Omg, I can't finish this review in one sitting. "Is his name Farmer or is it Peasant?" I'm choking on my own laughter.
Aww, man, Matt was drinking dat Haterade during Seen It! Kevin Smith movies are great! And Meet The Feebles? Classic!
Oh, crap! Nice Kubrick subliminal message near the end! Good job!
I can't believe how excited I am that I've actually seen this movie. I must be sick...
Matt has lost a lot of wait awesome bro
Great episode, fellas! And, Craig, pick Scanners, please!
"You don't have to worry about him. His name's not soldier." Baha!
I would have guessed that one dude would pick Scanners but with the way you edited his reaction in with The Wolfman I am not so sure!
Great episode! You should watch The Science of Sleep, directed by Michael Gondry and perhaps unsurprisingly similar to his more famous work, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, which I'm sure you've seen. Quite experimental but it has real heart.
Matt's Talking Heads reference made me shoot hot coffee from my nostrils.
Rip Ray Liotta. 2022
I really enjoy this side of Matt, I would like to see this eloquent wit with the B&BG instead of the screaming boor he portrays.
Once Craig heard Uwe Boll, his world was crushed.
i'm a big fan of this series.
"you ever see that scene in scanners when that dude's head explodes."
Seeing the kings nephew reminded me to ask if you've seen SLC Punk, It's a great movie that's overlooked far to often
Whenever I see John Rhys-Davies I always hear the Beauty and the Beast opening monologue.
I love your choises, I say Scanners myself, but I have to wonder, Why didn't Vincent Price's wierdest movies The Adominable Dr. Phibes and it's sequal Dr Phibes rises again didn't even get a nod. Trust me if you havn't seen these movies SEEE THEM! They are wierd and wonderful and leave you scratching your head and going..huh? Totally worth it! Love the show!
Wow, In the Name of the King.... big budget movie that fits right in on SyFy's saturday movie days.
Suspiria! It's awesome
Ahhh here it is!
I must say after this I'm going to watch this movie, never thought it existed! Child's Play #2 for the Halloween Episode ;D
Out of all the movies I have seen on Welcome to the Basement, this is the only one I've actually seen..... oh dear
Matt gets re-credit points for knowing you have to be 5th level to have 3rd level spells, which, indeed, covers "Fireball". The Theremin reference is priceless. Loose a few points for not mentioning the band Blind Guardian plays on the end credits (aka Hobbit Metal.. try the album Twist in the Myth)
"How will I be scaring you this Halloween, Mr. Sloan?" Delivered so creepily Craig! p.s. Scanners or Susperia!
Suspiria is pretty wild. Go for it.
Love the show guys, Top Gun viewing was absolutely brilliant. One of my favorite films of the last few years is the foreign masterpiece Red Cliff. I would suggest watching the uncut two-part version rather than the version on netflix. It is a four-hour sitting between the two parts. More a film for a history buff, but it's still a beautiful movie.
I'd love to see you watch scanners. Awesome head-splosions.
Scanners will lead to the best discussion, I think.
Uwe Boll also backed out of a boxing match against Seanbaby, because he knew that dude would have kicked his ass six ways till Sunday, so don't exaggerate about how tough he is.
The Talking Head reference just killed me xD (AndI 'am a french guy)!
Definitely go with Suspiria, it's a horror must-see and there's lots of discussion to be had with it. If not Suspiria, then Scanners.
Well I just fell in love with your cat Ernesto
We showed Bug in my Forensic Entomology class. I had not seen it prior to the viewing. My advisor/co-instructor thought it would be a "break" but somewhat relevant film for the class. I like the movie but don't think I'll be showing it when we have the class again.
Great series! My suggestion- The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, by Wes Anderson
it took me a good five minutes of this show before i realized fallow is played by the guy who played shaggy in the live-action scooby doo movies. jesus, i knew that facial hair looked familiar.
I'd love to have you review Beyond Lemuria in one of these episodes.
Wha tha- How did I miss this ep when it came out? I saw the Halloween one and was so lost as to when the voting happened. *Headdesk*
Speaking of Kevin Smith, In the Name of the King was talked about on episode 130 of Hollywood Babble-On. :)
Now I feel like we need to see someone make a flash game of "Uwe Boll's Punch-Out!!"
Suspiria AND Scanners, a double horror feature!
I remember when my friend picked this at blockbuster,i had to walk out halfway through.
SLC Punk is a great movie and after seeing the boys review Saturday Night Fever, I can see some similarities between the two. Both feature a protagonistic with abstract moral views and beliefs on life. Ultimately both are led to the conclusion that what they value most in life, dancing and punk rock respectively, has little to no actual value in the grand scheme of things and both need a huge event in thier lives to propel them back onto the right track and give thier lives purpose.
Yes! It's a great vampire comedy.
"Give me the chicken." "Chickiiiiiiiiiiiin!"
Actually, Sloan, Uwe didn't beat all of his challengers. There was a person he couldn't fight, critic Seanbaby. "Seanbaby says that he trains in Muay Thai and jujutsu, stating that, "boxing is to fighting what Hungry Hungry Hippos is to eating." When Uwe heard of this, he wanted to know Seanbaby's age, height, weight and fighting experience since he "learned he wasn't fighting a midget." Seanbaby claims he sent said information to Boll, after which Boll chose not to appear on the program."
Oh wow. This is 3 years ago. You've lost some weight since, but no less jolly. Well done.
Susperia is one of my favorite moves. Please do it.
Let's do it on the books. I'm going to use this one day. And what a glorious day it will be... >:)
Damn. Child's play is not the best but is damn fun to watch, but Scanners is a crazy ass movie. Also, Wolfman? Thats classic. Hard choice to make between those 3.
I was 5 when my brother got fearless vampire killers and it really scared the shit outta me when Dracula bit the pretty white lady. I saw it years later and the gay vampire really made me laugh. A great example of movie duality. Haha
Hey Matt and Craig, have you seen Sho Kosugi movies?
Thank god i saw this review the other day it saved over a hour of my life to watch more blame society films haha.
16:56 What's the story behind that painting on the bottom right? It creeps me out.
The Wolfman!
It is because fireball is the first really powerfully destructive spell you get, imho (OG D&D 1st Ed), making it seem higher level. Add some age to that, and voila...memory lapse, yay! -quite old nerd
You guys have got to do Susperia, that will make some good episode
I would choose either SUSPIRIA which I have not seen yet, but is on my list of movies to watch or THE WOLFMAN which I absolutely love. Also I'm curious if you've seen TAKEN, and if so what did you think of it?
have you seen "house of 1000 corpses"? i love that movie, i watch it over and over
I just watched the wolfman, it was amazing :D
I saw the turnip farm and all I could think of was the turnip scene in Blackadder II. Obviously, this movie was missing a turnip that looked like a man's... you know.
Ernesto is adorable XP
Have you ever seen Alejandro Jodorowsky's The Holy Mountain? I've seen that movie eight or so times, and still don't know whether I love it or hate it.
