I've just finished watching the entire series, now I'm crying inside, but the tears are not running, for all those souls who gave their everything in order to save the World and the world - destroyed them. The most Christian story of all the stories.

The most bizarre thing I remember from reading the book was the American magazine Popular Mechanics was kept under lock and key like a state secret.

Excellent series - thank you for posting this. I read the novel a couple of years ago and this series really brings it alive - I didn't know that Solzhenitsyn himself wrote the screenplay and did the narration. Thank you.

In 2006.

Directing actors and film scenes is an art not everybody has, alas. This film is heavily done. Many clichés, poor actors for second roles. Watch the same main actor here (Yevgueni Mironov) in the "Idiot" and you'll see by yourself how a perfect director (Vladimir Bortko) brought him to perfection.

Maybe you're right. Y. Mironov was wonderfull in the " Idiot", I couldn't take my eyes off him... I have seen an intervew w. him right now and it seems to be like he just simply was himself in it... Here he seems to be a bit ' woody', tryin' to be someone else than he is...

Can anyone identify the song that plays during the credits?

The song during the opening credits is "Rossiya", music by A. Novikov, lyrics by S. Alymov, sung by Sergei Lemeshev.

A lot of mistakes in English translation btw.
