In-depth Explanation of What Caused Noah's Flood - Dr. Kurt Wise

Paleontologist Dr. Kurt Wise explores the "geophysics of the Flood" and provides a fascinating look at the processes behind this catastrophic event that happened in the days of Noah. The question of how a global Flood could happen is an important area of research for modern creation scientists. One of the theories used to explain this process was developed by a number of scientists featured in the film. It is known as "Catastrophic Plate Tectonics" and has a great deal of explanatory power concerning the geophysical processes behind the global catastrophe.

I have watched it with the same enthusiasm he explained, I recently discovered this channel and even before watching all these, in 2015 for the first time I felt Pangea has to be real and definitely there should be some connection to Bible, I thought it was destruction of Babel and scattering people along with continents. WOW this whole explanation, I have learnt Geology as a subject in my education, never been so proud to have completely understand this presentation. This boosts up my faith in the Bible and also proves science is not something we can simply say no to. When the evidence is there, you need to examine it. Thank God for all these PhD doctors, who dedicated their passions and lives to God.

@ozowen Are you referring to the latent heat of condensation? That’s an untenable argument for at least two reasons. A. The majority of the water came up from beneath the earth, not rain. B. The mountains as they exist now wouldn’t have formed until rather late in the flood.

More please!!! I understood 95% of this presentation. I am a nurse, who took Geology in college, 1990. I learned more in 2 hours here than in a 12 week course. This information was so technical, yet so understandable, that it is absolute proof to me that the account stated in the Bible is true. Thank you for your hard work and passion for bringing this truth to the world. Jesus did say the rocks would cry out His name. I know, this statement is from a different context, but they are crying out His name. ”1 Corinthians 10:26: for, The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.”

As someone who studied physics for their undergraduate degree, I never found my faith to contradict science, in fact, I always found my faith assisting my scientific understanding. I think too many people have been polarized by ill intended agenda pushers to be able to remember the scientific method and remain open to all theories. True science means testing things over and over, always, and examining everything. So much of modern day academia is poised to fit a narrative rather than just scientifically investigate. Thank you for bringing such a nice piece to light with evidence, observations and theories that have been excluded from conventional wisdom for far too long.

What frustrates me so much about all these theories about the flood is that we all forget a very important point. In the beginning God created the waters above the firmament and the waters below the firmament. It is very clear that the Bible says it never rained in those days. That would make perfect sense why there was no rainbow and no clouds. The Bible says there was no rain in those days instead I mist went up from the ground (Hence very organic rich soil) and watered the face of the earth. The floodgates bursting fourth are the gates that were holding the waters above the firmament. This is where the majority of the water came from. The Bible says, Then it rained for 40 days and 40 nights hence the beginning of the whole cycle of rain evaporation clouds etc etc. Of course there was a third source and that was the waters of the depth burst fourth. Today those waters have receded in three areas one into clouds two into aquifers and three on the ice caps. Henceforth we have extreme weather Zones on the globe. Where is before the earth would’ve been like an atrium there would’ve been more balance of temperatures and climates. The canopy of water above the firmament would’ve served a number of purposes. One being filtering out UV rays hence why Adam and Eve and all of the patriarchs that lived up to Noah lived up to 900 years old. That in combination with rich soils and nutritionally dense foods. After the flood the average age of humans reduced dramatically. This would also explain why Adam and Eve were able to live without the aid of clothing or shelter. The environment pre flood would’ve been perfect for life. Food for thought

Man, this is so cool! I remember being little looking at the Flood story and wondering, "Cool! Dino bones support it. But, how did it work? What else in this world supports the story?" The Bible does say that nature proclaims God's existence and holiness. There had to been more evidence! Your explanation connected a lot of dots for me in regards to geology and geography. I took a couple of courses for my GE for my own creative purposes. While the material, such as magnetic reversal, made sense as a stand alone, theory, it never made sense to me a collective whole. The logic seemed muddled, which I assumed was from my lack of experience in the field. So, in this lecture, as you were excitedly explaining all the bits and pieces of your team's model, I was excitedly recognizing this information I had learned as it clicked for me! It wasn't a "me" problem in not fully understanding the mechanics; it was a subconscious recognition of the logical misalignment in the conventional theory! It is so cool to watch the conventional theory line up so beautifully with a few simple realignments! I love science!!!

It is late, and therefore I am not going into great detail here, but several months back, as I entered Espanola, NM, I noticed large, round hills above the city and drove up to a high point of one such “mound.” As I walked about, I found the ground to be consistent of large grained sand with small, rounded pebbles mixed regulajy throughout. There were no stones or rocks of any appreciable size except single samples scattered about the hill. As I looked across a valley to another rounded hill, I saw that the ground was consistent to where I was standing. As I lifted my gaze, I saw that theses mounds continued on for miles into the distance, even into larger formations that ran together and seemed piled up into mountains, all consisting of the same “stuff.” As I drove through the area, I realized that there were NO mountains as I had seen in Colorado, but only large piles of the same composition on which I had stood. Then is when I SAW it. Central NM is where the enormous, miles-high Flood waters surge wasted itself on all the flat, open real-estate of the southern United States - Texas, and northern Mexico. Racing off of the mid-continental plateau of Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho, the earth had broken open, forming the Rocky Mountains, and exposing all the sub-surface channels of waters and the molten fires beneath, where the dead await the Judgment of God. The main run=off removed all the top layers of the western landscape of Utah and Arizona, and deposited it into the area of the Pacific Ocean and forming Baja California as a result. The same disaster continued down the Rockies and Andes working the same land erosion in those locations. The eastern US had no such plateau, so when the Appalachians broke open, the rising world-wide flood waters received the water from under the eastern highlands without allowing the same erosion that the West suffered. All the mountains of the world are where the fountains of the deep broke open and folded back upon themselves when the waters were finished being ejected. All pre-flood “continental” boundaries show flood ravines but are now hidden by the elevated water level covering the earth. I don’t need to continue the ugly details, but they can easily be gleaned from understanding the over-all event. But the White Mountains certainly contain the living flora that spent only minimal time under the flood waters, and bear witness to the age of the Flood as likely 3,000 BC.

Bill Sterling, thanks for you comments. My thought is the where the 40,000 miles of oceanic ridges are is where the fountains of the deep broke up and the layers of waters under the continents rushed to the cracks and they got closer to the cracks they reached went faster and reached the speed of cavitation, they eroded out the oceans from below, and at the crack shot up high then crashing down eroding out the oceans even more. Since the oceans were so violent the sediments could not settle out near the cracks but between the cracks where the water was calmer, resulting over a mile or two remaining on the continents of today with only 1/5th as much in the oceans.i Does this sound reasonable to you?

  • @saludanite

    @saludanite

@@danminer5343 Entirely reasonable! One has only to look at the Pacific Rim to suspect that there was a collapse here. The "waters" had to come from somewhere. These "waters" were being held in store from the beginning of the world, as is the "fire". In Revelation 21, concerning the new heavens and the new earth, it is stated "and there was no more sea". Does that indicate that the purpose of "the sea" has been fulfilled? I have been looking "down" at construction plans and documents most of my adult life, and these projects were designed to have a discrete purpose, but none of them were conceived to function for thousands of years. Once you move your at-tention away from 200 year-old speculations, the in-tentions of the real designer begin to appear in your own mind. He has designed a first house to fulfill its purposes, but a second house to last forever.

I remember that geological study at Oregon's Steen Mountain. You can see an account of it here on YT as a NOVA episode on Polar Flip. At the time, the Geologists' conclusion based on modeling was that polar reversals must happen VERY quickly. This caught my attention. As an Archaeologist with related backgrounds in Geology and Prehistoric Geomorphology, I recognized that the cultural impact of a thing like that would be catastrophic and by 'old' Earth standards we were overdue. They further posited that a lead up to reversal would be a gradual weakening of polarity followed by an instantaneous fully charged magnetic field. Soak that in for a moment. The Earth's Mag Field is its 'force field' from Solar radiation. A weak field allows the globe to warm. A strong field would have an opposite effect. BUT... in the accepted 'old' geology of the Earth, an event like this has never happened in 'human' history. Dr. Wise' analyses have me thinking about this all over again. Interesting epilogue to this story... after seeing the original Nova video, I contacted the Geologist. We exchanged emails and he shared with me some of his work. He no longer supported the polar reversal conclusions, however; and did not fully elaborate as to why. I was confounded at the time. Now I understand, thanks to Dr. Wise. I also love your energy, Dr. Wise. It reflects a passion for your work and the truth that work reveals. It reminds me of that same passion I saw in Dr. Linda Schele when I studied under her at UTxATX. Great program. Thumbs up!

@Darth Quantum Firstly, you started with an appeal to authority - whether you did in fact do your doctoral dissertation on the earth's magnetic field is irrelevant as you have simply provided a comment on the internet under an alias. If you are in fact academically trained you would provide supporting citations for your assertions which you have not, your ad hominem attacks also weaken your credibility and makes everyone curious about the validity of all your statements. Now, the time span of magnetic striping occurring over millions of years is heavily dependent on geomagnetic reversals correct? The uniformitarian view on geomagnetic field reversals is that it takes extended periods of time and always take extended periods of time to occur. Now if you want to believe that the conventional wisdom of this day is unchallengeable then go for it, you wouldn't be the first in history and you won't be the last. If you are genuinely interested in a study that conflicts with the accepted dogma then I suggest you look into the Steens Mountain findings. The findings go against the grain and are dismissed on the grounds of the principle of least astonishment (so far for following the evidence where ever it may lead). Science is based on evidence like you say, but evidence doesn't tell you anything by itself, it is the interpretation of evidence that is being challenged, not the evidence itself. Real science is finding the best explanation for the evidence not simply the evidence that confirms your worldview. Christians work very hard to challenge the dogmatically accepted view, have you ever thought why? I'll tell you it is not for the sake of priggery, but of love. We are approaching the end of the age, I pray you will see it for what it is. Every knee will bow, every tongue will confess, Jesus is Lord.

That was really neat! 1. If you believe in thermal build up triggering the fountains of the deep breaking upwards, is there any way to predict the first location of the breach of the surface? 2. Are you tracing the magma-flume/craton/continental movement from a single event, or is there evidence that the continents may have been moved under multiple catastrophic events? What is your mechanism for raising the north American trough which was a sea at one time? If the Siberian traps evidence coal burning, did the coal burn in air or under water? Similarly, are there cross-bedded sand deposits that show evidence of being formed in air and then being transported under water? What is your model to differentiate between new rock, old rock and re-formed rock, and potentially separate events for these?

The Epic of Gilgamesh presents even more proof of a world-wide flood. The Epic's flood story is similar to other stories found world-wide, even in the "New World". After studying all of those legends, it is relatively easy to believe the legends came from one source, such as Noah and his children. Dan

From the Epic of Gilgamesh: ‘O man of Shuruppak, son of Ubartutu: Tear down the house and build a boat! Abandon wealth and seek living beings! Spurn possessions and keep alive living beings! Make all living beings go up into the boat. The boat which you are to build, its dimensions must measure equal to each other: its length must correspond to its width.’ "All living things"? That certainly seems to be a global flood. Nozomi Osanai, who did a comparative study of the two flood stories for her master's thesis, summarized the flood story in this manner: _"On his journey in quest of immortality, Gilgamesh met Utnapishtim. When Gilgamesh asked him how he got (eternal) life, Utnapishtim told him about the flood. When Utnapishtim lived in Shuruppak, the great gods decided to send a flood on the earth to wipe out all humans. The god Ea secretly revealed the gods’ plan to Utnapishtim. According to Ea’s commandment, he transformed his reed hut into a ship and made all of his kin and relatives, craftsmen, and animals embark on it to escape from the flood. The great rainstorm continued for six days. When the seventh day arrived, the storm and the flood subsided. All humans outside the ship were turned into clay by the flood and the ship eventually landed on Mt. Nisir. After seven days, Utnapishtim sent out a dove to see if the water had receded, but it returned after finding no place to roost. Next, a swallow also returned. Finally, a raven did not return. Utnapishtim offered a sacrifice to the gods. Enlil got angry when he found the survivors. However, appeased by Ea’s intervention, Enlil permitted Utnapishtim and his wife to become like gods and he transferred them from the land to 'the mouth of the rivers.'" [Nozomi Osanai, "A Comparative Study of the Flood Accounts in the Gilgamesh Epic and Genesis." Answers in Genesis, 2005]_ Notice all humans outside the ship were turned into clay. Can we say, "fossilized"? LOL! Perhaps Gary will show us the verses from the Epic that prove a local vs a global flood. Don't hold your breath. Dan

Gary Walker always pops into the comments for videos like this just to bash Christians. He neither watches the videos, nor ever has any substance to contribute to back up his faith based atheistic beliefs. Oh, and the only thing he knows about the Epic of Gilgamesh is that it's a talking point to throw at Christians. He doesn't even know why it's a talking point that atheists use, which is that they assume the Epic of Gilgamesh to be older than Genesis. The time that two things are written down have no bearing on which is more true. That said though, it is not at all universally believed that Moses wrote Genesis. Compiled maybe, but not wrote. There are very compelling arguments that each part of Genesis that is split by a phrase like "These were the generations of..." were written by different people. Genesis 1-2:2 for instance is thought to be written by God Himself. It refers to God as God. Subsequent sections refer to God as Lord God and are each written in different forms. Adam would have started writing at Genesis 2:3. Then when it says These were the generations of... we move on to the next author. I think about 10 authors total. Genesis most definitely predates the Epic of Gilgamesh in my opinion.

I'm a trained Geologist. There's craters near where I grew up that are explained as volcanic chimneys. I'd climb up into them and they were lined with tufa, particularly the kind I've only seen growing in volcanic lakes. But these are not "volcanoes" they were more just weathered magma cores of old volcanoes. Across the valley are mountains with obvious large ripples, the same kinds that exist where cataclysmic floods occurred like near Seattle. My conclusion was that these vents were just where deep mantle water was vented as geysers from the planet heating internally, freeing the 2 oceans worth of water from their mineral prisons. And why not? The core of the earth is essentially a He-3 Fusion reactor, who knows what a power spike looks like, let alone the breath of God. The whole crust could melt at any moment if we just had a bit of a power surge in the core.

Instead of doing some basic internet searching, visiting a museum and/or talking to a 'proper' expert to analyse and see for yourself the evidence put forward demonstrates that you're not asking that question in good faith. Instead you want an argument that you can win by simply ignoring the point and responding with some variation of 'nu uh, that's not evidence, God did it with his magic'. I'll acknowledge that you can believe whatever you want, flat earth or whatever, but you'd be believing in a God that plants mountains of evidence of an old earth/universe in every field of science whether it be archaeology, astronomy, geology, biology, virology, anatomy, paleontology, zoology, linguistics or physics in an effort to deceive us. In just the two words you wrote I can tell that you're simply not ready to be open-minded enough to learn about the incredible amount of research and evidence that scientists have discovered in the field of geology alone, let alone every other field of science that are ALL in agreement.

Cool. I really like Walt Brown's Hydroplate Theory. Best explanation for radioactive elements. Earth's bedrock/granite contains 70% quartz which contains piezoelectric charge which is released as mini lightening bolts when pressure is placed on it or it's pulled. (quartz is what give the spark in bbq igniters etc) We can , in laboratories, create radioactive elements by introducing high voltage to non radioactive elements. The weight of the flood caused massive electrical disturbance in the submersed land and that is when the radioactive elements were formed. I often wondered why during creation that God would say , " and He saw that it was good" about radioactive elements.

I also believe the hydroplate theory is a better explanation for both what we see today geographically and what we read in Genesis. Elijah Laub thank you for the reply. It has been over a year since I’ve watched this video so I don’t remember all that’s in it. But I have my own belief that is congruent with both theories. Genesis 1: 7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. The key to this verse is not to get caught up in what we’ve been taught to believe or interpret as what the firmament is. And yes I am fully aware of what the next verse says. But notice the capital “Heaven” in verse 8 as opposed to the smaller case “heaven” in verse 9 in the KJB. And one last thing to ponder, in the first two verses of Genesis, notice God creates the heaven and the earth and in verse 3 he even creates “light”, but does it ever say he creates the “water”? 🤔

Years ago flying out of Atlanta late in the day with the sun at a low angle, I was impressed by the ridges running from North Ga into Tennessee, the sun’s angle making them stand out in graphic relief. Being from Atlanta, the local geology is fascinating to me, the layers exposed along I75 headed north into Chattanooga are impressive. This presentation provides a logical explanation. I’d appreciate knowing where Dr Wise is in this presentation, so I can figure out where the “50 miles east” area is. I studied geology in college 50 years ago. Is Genesis History provides the most logical explanations of what I was taught under a different paradigm.
