I never knew people hated Ayu, but the fact that they do makes me so sad :( She’s such a good girl, and is so cute and precious. She was the first Key girl I ever saw, and is what helped me get into eroge. She’s an icon of the genre, and her uguus are adorable!

It's funny, because whenever I see Ayu without her coat, she looks _significantly_ older. It's literally just her baggy clothing and her cutesy backpack covering up her figure.

It is supposed to be this way. Remember, the Ayu you see is the idealization of Yuuichi. It's a mix of her childish features with a teenager woman.

The ironic part here is that Ayu is capable of acting maturely in serious/romantic scenes unlike most of the other Key heroines of her archetype. Iirc, she stops saying "Uguu~" whenever she's serious / acting her age, the moe hate for her is really overblown. Imo, her chemistry with Yuuichi in the 2006 anime was really great. They actually felt like equals despite Ayu's supposed childishness (which Yuuichi is also guilty of since like you mentioned, he had immature moments of his own) and young appearance, which is funny because height difference with Yuuichi aside, removing her coat actually makes her look her actual age lol.

I had no idea Ayu was disliked that much. I know people dislike Nagisa a lot out of the main Key heroines (probably another video suggestion *wink* *wink*) but with Ayu I always thought people liked her fine. Might have to think of other suggestions outside of the Key series. Maybe Manaka from Nagiasu?

I watched kanon a really long time ago, and some memories and characters got mixed with clanad. But uguu is certainly kanon.

Well, Kanon, AIR, and CLANNAD share a universe and a number of recurring themes, so I wouldn't blame you if anything got mixed up between them. :)

it annoys me so much when characters like ayu and nagisa are unnecessarily critiqued just because people don’t enjoy watching or “get” moe and slice of life/melodrama. this video honestly argues the stupid points made by those people really well, great job!

Ayu is the best girl. She nearly dies at age 10, but was somehow able to have awareness while in a coma. Then she became a Ikiryō and was able to haunt the streets of that town, and materialize when Yuuichi returned - for a while, at least. I think it's that she didn't grow very much while in the hospital that we instantly think of her as a little brat, but she really was a kind soul. If she looked like she did in episode 2 of "Air", she'd be more popular with anime fans. Maybe it looks creepy when she kisses Yuuichi, but damn - they're the same age! I'm definitely in the Ayu Uguu camp.

You are so right here. Like you say she is rly différent in route of the other girl in the VN but I guess if you only watch the anime and want it to focus on an other girl you can have peoblem with ayu (hard to believe, favorite girl in all anime and favorite route in on of my favorite VN).

Ayu Tsukimiya is one of my all time favorite anime/vn female characters. In fact, I dont care more most of the other Kanon girls except for Makoto. I even downloaded the fan translated and 18+ version of Kanon in order to play Ayu's route and nothing else. I dont hate the other girls, I just dont care enough to see their romance options and I have the anime for the gist of their stories. But Ayu? Best girl

I really like Key anime adaptations despite never played a VN in my life and yeah those kind of people who dont like moe need to stop watching it because they never gonna change their mindset and will keep saying only the negative stuff...

Ayu and Makoto are actually my favorites. I can't imagine disliking them knowing their whole story at all.

Watching Kanon, I've always seen "Ugu!" in context as a charming way of saying, "Damnit!"

I would suggest you cover haruhi suzimiya she gets way more hate than she deserves.

I think it would be interesting if you covered shinji from evangelion but at the same time I already know people hate him and understand why despite not agreeing. This video was pretty fun cause I didn't even no people hated ayu.

absolutely right

i don't think ayu should deserve this much hate. i remember reading comments about people wanting yuuichi to get with nayuki, and honestly i got uncomfortable because of how they're literally cousins. i mean, i guess i understand that japan allows first cousin marriages or whatever, but to me i still don't like incest no matter if it's okay in other places. it's also a thing that i constantly see between mcs and their siblings, or cousins too, maybe other family members in animes; it always makes me wanna ditch the show. when watching key vn animes, i usually like sticking to the main girl, like misuzu in air, or nagisa from clannad. same with ayu from kanon. i like their designs too.

I think I still have go for Mai's green eyes. And she's actually the least moe of the five, go figure, but that's not quite the reason. Her story was the one I liked the most. And maybe I'm doomed to be amused by Rei clones.

If you want to do a video on Sekai feel free to plagiarize the arguments on the Blog post I made recently. I never hate character over Shipping reasons because I don't even like Monogamy. I like Ayu and Ugu quite a bit. But I was indeed not prepared for her to be the Main Heroine when the initial plot Description is clearly trying to reel people in with Coousincest bait.

I just got done with the show. I thought she was adorable, and along with Makoto, couldn't wait for her appearances :-)

I really dislike Kanon, the main character is a total douchbag and everything is written around placing him on a pedestal. As far as Kanon goes, Ayu is fine though. It's pretty funny when you see old anime use something that has been mocked in its original, genuine way, like uguu The OP of Maze also starts with something that sounds like uguu, it may be something else but to me it's uguu, and it's an essential part of the opening song

She's funny but Uguu is really cringe. Uguu became a part of weeb culture. Compared to Aguu (Tom and Jerry's Baby Puss) or some cartoon that has characters mimicking babies, Uguu is definitely a weeb version of it.
