Impressive, Angkot Driver Speaks Fluent English 🇮🇩

Today I learn my lesson the hard way. After visiting the Great Asian Africa theme park I head to Lembang to do some exploring. I get dropped off right in the middle of town because I didn't know where else to go. I quickly find some tasty ice cream and delicious street food to munch on. I then get picked up by a random bus driver that says he will take me to the hot springs. I make my first major mistake here as I don't negotiate a price before hopping on, a beginner mistake. I then make my way to the hot spring where it is packed! There were tons of kids there on a field trip and I should have just turned around and gone home. But, I was determined to go inside since we had already driven 30 minutes that way. Once inside, I'm swarmed by some emak-emak again who want a picture. A kid then comes up and asks for a picture so I take his phone and snap a selfie, big mistake. All the kids then take out their phones and try to take a picture with me. It got out of hand I just had to get out of there. I finally make it to the hot spring and just soak the toes for a bit. Then call it a day and get out of there.

Yes its normal for angkot drivers to be hired for private destination. Its a bit pricy of course for angkot to hire because it can accomodate like 8 people. So 8 dollars for a private hire to the hot spring was pretty decent price

Let's say you booked an angkot for 2 different places, he drove you to Volcano and Hot Spring and back again to Lembang, 200.000 is pretty cheap. For your information, the Hot Spring is not in Bandung area anymore, so its kinda a long drive. If you rent a car (not angkot) it will be 300.000 or more 👍🏻

There might have been a lost in translation there. Bapak angkot driver offered to drive you to the hot spring, wait for you, and then drop you back at the city centre. So, basically you 'rented' the angkot exclusively. He might have as well gone out of his angkot routine traject. A 8 bucks should have been a fair price. Anw, hope this kind of experience will not diminish your enthusiasm in exploring Indonesia. Stay safe! :)

Yes, I agree. The driver thought that he was hired exclusively for your trip only and should waited while you explore the hot spring. Could be, he thought that would spent for hours/all day. Anw, I don't think his original route reach to hot spring, maybe around lembang/city centre, cmiiw. I think the rate is fair enough for using car, yes might be bit higher but not that high. Good for you can bargain closed to 100 thousand rupiah. U might check the round-trip rate if use gocar/grabcar for comparison. Off course if by gojek (motorcycle) or public transport (not exclusively rented), the rate must be lower.

Nick, I'm sorry that it went rough on you. You, however, have remarkable self-control, probably at the same level as a superstar, when you were approached by your "fans" during a difficult situation. I appreciate it. I hope you have something soothing next to you now, like chilled drinks or another ice cream, because this will be a bit long. ---- So please don't mind me that I want to say something about the things you usually say like in 10:05 "Bisa duduk?" The thing is, the word "can" in English is translated into two meanings: 1. "Can" which means "being able", is translated into the word "Bisa" Example: I can eat this, it's not spicy. = Saya bisa makan ini, ini tidak pedas. 2. "Can" which means "may" or "is allowed to", so it's more like permission, is translated into the word "Boleh" Example: Can I go there? = Boleh saya pergi ke situ? Yes, you can go there = Ya, kamu boleh pergi ke situ In reality, you/they will just say, "Boleh ke situ?" "Boleh lewat situ?" (can I pass through there?) "Ya, boleh" (yes, you can) I hope I don't confuse you at this point. ---- About bintang beer, although it's a zero alcohol, the people, especially the Muslims are still reluctant to have it because it's still beer after all. Some Muslim scholars forbid people to drink it because it still uses alcohol during the process, and probably the marketing is not that aggressive, and the government is trying to keep it low key because we already have some illegal alcohol problems too on some street gangs, hence the low consumption rate national-wide. --- Now, about the tour to Lembang, as far as I know, it's kinda inconvenient to visit there unless you're on an organized tour, with a team or just you and a guide/private driver. Since you're friends with Misky, you probably want to ask her if she can just lend you one of her students that will accompany you to see some good spots. Indonesian students are generally open-minded, adventurous, and helpful, so that won't probably be the worst experience to take them with you. Let Misky choose one of her kids that speaks good English and has sufficient knowledge of the city. I say this because I escorted some foreign guests to some places too when I was a student. That way you will have someone to talk to the locals in a better way, get more native insights, protect you from some possible dangerous areas, and more valuable friendships. Obviously, it's just my random idea, it's totally gonna be up to you. Please take care

They are not as crowded and you can enjoy a quiet and nice warm hot spring water. In the meantime, I do recommend going to Kawah Putih (white crater) in Ciwidey if you have time. There is none like it and out of this world scenic. You can also get the experience eating Sundanese food in a rice field on the way there. Love watching your video, fam. Cheers!

Hey Nick. Love your content; very original and down-to-earth! I appreciate your interest in Indonesia's history and genuineness in learning about it. A bit of bantering: as an Indonesian who grew up in the states, my parents always reminded us to carry integrity and are intentional. Unfortunately, a handful of folks in Indo are uneducated and poor, resulting in dishonesty and unintentionally. Another thing, take every suggestion presented in the comments section with a grain of salt and expect the unexpected IF it's something you're doing on the fly. There are undoubtedly great suggestions posted in the comments, but perhaps it's good to Google them first. Lastly, consider going with a friend or a fellow subscriber familiar with the location. @@NickKTravel bandung has many tourist spots in and outskirt of the city, and also known as food haven, so local tourists swarm the city every weekend, but lately it's almost everyday, very crowded. I don't really like it there, the road is confusing, many cafes don't have decent parking spot. Lembang has cafes/restaurants with beautiful sceneries, but you're no food vlogger, so I better not recommend 😄 Half the content of your videos i don't even have a clue they're exist. A little advice, to reduce language constraints because Indonesian people do not really master English it is recommended that you speak slowly, or gentlemen you use that situation as a medium of Indonesian language practice (you speak by mixing between languages english and indonesian that you already know) I'm sure even people who don't really master english will also understand.

Lembang villager here! I'll just point out something I found interesting or guide for people who visits our small town here: 2:33 Mixue: my little sibling favourite hangout place, 2 minute walk from junior highschool. Tasty boba ice cream. Mango ice cream also very great. 3:15 Lembang Junction: the food section there changes every year and me being poor and quarantined already forgor. I miss the old days... 6:14 Farm House: as a local I would say its not worth being cramped out with tourist but hey - giant petting zoo with aestethic photo spot. Pretty cool for shoots, but food would be too expensive 4 me. Go once and I prefer Floating Market... and Orchid farm/Taman Begonia is better photo spot because FLOWERS!!

The bargain of the fare of the angkot is maybe gained up because recently the goverment raised up the price of the fuel here (pretty significant), but I can say that actually what he offered you is to booked him with tour price (usually with more than 5 people) to go back and forth to your destinations but it cost the same even with only one passenger inside. Think it's a fair fare if he told you in the first place.
