    Interesting that the steering wheel can stay on the UK side... I think it's good the TUV are strict, not because they can be a pain in the butt with say "modified" cars, but at least everyone has to have the car checked properly, including people who unlike "enthusiasts" probably don't pay as much attention to things like worn suspension, brakes and tires.

    Awesome! I live in Germany myself but originally from the UK, been looking for some good reliable information on registering a car for ages, but like you say there really isn't much about. Very informative and has definitely put my mind at ease on the whole process. Although I must add it is only this simple if the car is not modified, any modifications must be Tüv registered and to do so need relevant paperwork, which if you're buying from the UK it isn't going to have! And on the is it worth it point, yes. Just take a look at the prices of cars compared to UK and Germany, even German cars. And being on the wrong side takes 10 minutes to get used to, only a pain when going through the Maccies drive thru or ticket car park!

    The cat and handbrake are part and parcel of older car ownership. Handbrake should be a fairly quick (cheap) fix but the cat issue may be a bit expensive unless you buy from a scrap yard. I quite like Murphy on his bottle top alloys 👌🏻

    COC depends on the car I think. I've heard you have to ask for it at the headquarters of the brand in the country where the car was first sold, a real shitshow and probably not cheap. But as long as you're in Europe and get a car from another country in the EU it's pretty much the same procedure, I got my Dyana the bug in the Netherlands and went to the customs (Douane) here in Belgium for that paper you got in the cityhall. The bug didn't get through the check her first time either because of a teeny tiny crack on the bottom of the headlight but second time was without any problems :)

    For a time I used to buy my cars new, from the manufacturer in Germany and export them to Switzerland. To get them registered in the Zuerich canton, I had to have a COC from the manufacturer, but, the paper it was printed on had to have a the unique watermark of the manufacturers logo on it, that you could see by holding the paper up to the light. It was just one of the things that you learn. But the German Customs offices, were really helpful and guided everybody through filling out all the papers so that one got the maximum tax benefit, I can't praise them enough.

    What I know you are wrong. After some time it is mandatory to register car in Germany (and not only there). If you are living in Germany and using your home country register car then after about a year you need go back with your car to home country or register it in Germany. There is many topics on paralegal forums in my country where people asking how to avoid that. Maybe it easier in place like Nurburgring where there is many visitors from abroad but in other places you getting tickets if you are using your car too long.

    I just went trough the equivalent of this in Bulgaria with my new (to me) winter beater. Took less than 24 hours from seeing the ad to having the car on the road. And it cost less than a set of winter tyres for the M5.

  • @YamahaYZFR6RJ05

    @YamahaYZFR6RJ05

    but when you compare the road fatality rate per million, you can clearly see what the result of your convenience is. bulgaria 99 fatalities per million while germany has only 39 in the same period. i'd rather struggle to get my car registered than die in it because it was really easy to get it on the road again.

  • @mgcharoudin

    @mgcharoudin

    I have to disagree. The main reason is education and common sense. Accidents and fatalities happen when people do stupid things. As proven multiple times before, you can drive POS car on the track, but if you don't know how, then it's not the cars fault that it gets crashed.

  • @YamahaYZFR6RJ05

    Misha, so in other words the people of bulgaria are all lacking common sense? i'll have to disagree on that. i've been there. crappy cars, but lovely people who obey the law most of the time just as we germans do.

  • @javoresku

    @javoresku

    @YamahaYZFR6RJ05 - Where did I say that the car had any issues? I'm sure it would pass TUV if it had to. In fact it did in August. Yes a lot of the cars here are shitboxes, but sadly Bulgaria is still the poorest country in the EU and people can't afford to buy new and safe.

  • @jimcole5359
    @jimcole53596 жыл бұрын

    In many of the states here in the US most of what you had to go through would have to be done here as well. Obviously we drive on the same side of the road regardless of state so no light or mirror changes, but with the emissions tests and such it can be a big hassle. One other thing that is interesting is taking cars from one state to another and getting registration. If you live in Georgia for example and want to buy a car in Florida (one state away) you actually have to pay a big fee for bring the car into the state. Our typical registration fee is around $56 US, but add the additional fee and it will cost over $400 for the first time registration.

  • @uberseehandel

    @uberseehandel

    6 жыл бұрын

    Actually, having exported quite a number of cars from Europe to the States, I can say that there are still a lot of issues that have to be dealt with, including changing rear lights, presence colours of side reflectors, turn indicators etc, making sure the engine is in the US engine database and that the fuel tank is pressurised. It is expensive and only worth doing for something really special.

    Nice to see what need to be done to get the car streetlegal but why did you go to TÜV for the emission test? You can do that in any workshop that can read out error codes on the car and get that certificate. If you bring this to TÜV inspection they don't check it anymore. I got the emissions certificate without actually turning the engine on if you know what I mean 😉😊

  • @ludwigjakob3709

    @ludwigjakob3709

    6 жыл бұрын

    It`s true, that the emmission test can be done at any workshop, that has available the equipment for that. But at older cars the test is not done by just reading out the error memory, which is for cars with emmission standard up from Euro 4, I think. At older cars really has to be done the measuring procedure at the exhaust pipe, at TÜV or prepared workshop.

    Here is some good video, to show how you can adjust that handbrake kzread.info/dash/bejne/h2d2pq2SnqvRk7g.html, you can "test" it your hands..I do this in my work. So when you have adjust that handbrake, you put that wheel back, then turn it by hands...When that is not roll then it is tight, also you can hear when it is too tight when it lags, then you can also test. When you have adjust that handbrake, but wheels in, but first gear and handbrake on then try to drive, if not moving it is good, but you need to be careful not to burn cluth

    Valt mee, 2 afkeur punten, de katalysator is gewoon pech, daar kun je niet in kijken zonder te demonteren, de handrem zal wel iets gangbaar maken zijn. Gaat Dyana ook vlogen net zoals Tim? Start dan een gezamenlijk een APEX vlog kanaal, alles in, op en rond Team APEX bij elkaar.

    I wonder why it wouldn't have been cheaper to just buy local german car? It's funny since we import used german cars to Finland since they are a lot cheaper for good cars.
