I can understand leasing a car, but as Iman is saying if you have expensive cars you can rent them or loan them out and make a lot of money off of them. Vlad is behind the times, but is correct in general that cars depreciate. Where Vlad loses me is with home ownership. Owning a home is the most valuable thing you can do.

False if you trade cars every 2/3 years you’ve been missing the benefits of leasing. You hate having to negotiate your trade value because your upside down? I hope Vlad does know that if you own a car you can also write off a part of the car for business purposes as well. If you own a car under 6,000 pounds bought out right or financed you can write off up to $18,200 in net income, for depreciation the first year and if its over 6,000 pounds you can write off the whole thing up to net income of your business. While if you lease a car yes you can write off the lease payments but 9/10 it wont be greater then depreciation. Then at that point if the leases payments are more than depreciation why not just buy the car and have ownership? I used to think like Vlad but how it is nowadays ownership is everything. I would rather own a car that cost $100,000. Then pay monthly lease payments of what $1,500 and never own it at all because after 5.5 years of doing that your wasting money. You could have bought the car at that point and then some

The thing about that is everything is contextual. The most important thing is cash flow which is why most ppl lease since the money they didn't use to pay outright can be used to make money for other things. Someone who values security more may just want to pay it off and not worry about having to pay it off over time. The correct answer is tailor made for you.

*Outdated luxury. If we're talking luxury cars, by time the note is paid off, the car will be outdated and a new version of the car will have better characteristics, and a lot of times it's even newer characteristics. Not to mention, maintenance on that older luxury vehicle usually now falls on you.

Leasing a car because a car depreciate is not an argument. You need to calculate if you buy a car and sell it for a lesser price compare it to leasing agreement. The results will always be that it is financially better to buy a car. Vlad revealing his shortcomings.

I’m so glad Shumpert stood on what he said about buying his cars and not leasing. Neither option is wrong, it depends on where you are in life, and for us regular people who require having a car for transportation, buying is a good option, contrary to what Vlad says when he says, it’s stupid to buy cars. For the normal regular working person, leasing is an added bill, every month. Who wants that? If you got it like that, great for you. Most people prefer not to have another $300-600 bill to have a car for a short time and trade up every 3 years. Vlad, we aren’t rich. We aren’t buying cars for their value… we need to get around. The real question is, why own a car if you live in an area where you don’t drive because there’s public transportation and if you so happen to move your car, you’re stuck looking for a spot for the next 3 hours?
