Wait 6 months and the prices of SSD may come down and see if there are any problems with kernel panics on the T2 chip.

The aesthetics of the old model is great. When you pressure companies to come up with a new design every year you get something like the cylindrical Mac Pro.

Love the video Greg !! . However your voice in the video has some weird random panning between the stereo field which is kinda distracting. Most of the time it sits a little bit to the right side of the speakers. Look forwards to more iMac videos ;)

I bought the 27" 2020 iMac with 4 TB storage, 16GB Radeon 5700XT and 8 gigs of ram because I bought 64gb 3rd party and installed it myself. All for what you mentioned, BootCamp to run Windows and games. And man does it work great!

To me, the 27in base model is a little more than I usually need for computing. My ideal option would’ve been a 21.5in model with a 10gen Intel with a 512 SSD, but I guess that will never happen because of Apple Silicon. I come from a top-spec 13in MBP from 2014. What would you guys recommend? Also... subbed because my birthday is in August, too. Happy bday, man!

The iMac 2020 + macOS Catalina does not allow its monitor to be used as an extended display for macbook. This is really sad. I hope apple adds this feature in their future update. Please do tell, if you know any other ways to use the monitor as an extended display.

What macbook should i get

I am going to purchase the top-end model now, fully spec'd up (but buy my memory elsewhere). My worry with Apple Silicon is software is going to take a year or so to catch up. Like they say, when a new model of car is launched - leave it a year and let others find all the teething troubles.

I was wondering that too. Without the Fusion drive there may be more room, with all SSD, there could be more room for an extra fan, plus no moving parts with the SSD. Glad you can put in your own ram.

Another thing to note,delivery dates are like... this week,at least in ont canada.

Yea just upgrade the ram yourself to 64gb or more.

One thing that I am disappointed in is that it didn't have the Wi-Fi 6. But everything else is super for the last Intel I-Mac. So glad they ditch the Fusion drives and put the T2 Chip which will be very useful. It would be a nice tied over till Apple has all their Mac's to the ARM chips, and the software is all set up as well. It would be a good trade in, or if you want to sell it separately. You will be able to upgrade the ram yourself, and don't if that is the case for the ARM 27 inch I-Mac. This top tier 27 Inch I-Mac specked up with the highest end Processor, 10-Core 10th Processor I-9, with the 5700 XT with the 16GB of GDDR6 Video Ram, and 10GB Ethernet, will be the like the Pro version of all the 27 inch I-Mac's. Really sweet. And also if you want to have the Boot Camp or Parallels and set up Windows this will also be a great deal. Two reasons for getting this, is the ram door and being able to put Boot Camp or Parallels and Windows. I want to be able to have Office 365 with Access and Publisher and would need Windows to do that. If Microsoft would have Access and Publisher on the Mac Version of Office 365 I wouldn't need Windows. Happy Birthday, Greg, hope it is a great one. Thank you, so much. I currently have a 2019 update iMac 27 inch and configured it with 16GB of ram and a 1TB SSD drive and I9 8 core processor and a 6tb La Cie D2 Pro spinning magnetic drive for time Machine, as the data on SSD electronic drives tend to fade over time and the data stored on a magnetic drive lasts forever, unless you pass it through a very strong magnetic field. I should have ordered 32GB ( 2 x 16GB ) of ram as it is 2 x channel memory but not to worry. I should have got a UPS/surge protector as well.

I like your videos generally. However, this one is very weird in the case of the audio in it. It is panning all the time. Maybe some technical glitch because of the excitement. But, maybe a glitch you can look into. If you need any help or advice, at your service. Cheers

I am not exactly sure, but I guess, based on what I am hearing, it is like you were using the camera for video and voice, and the camera might have had a 3d or Dolby or binaural function! I do not know how accurate I am, but it sounds to me like this, because it does not appear to be disruptions, rather very weird panning very depending on your head movement :))

I would spend the $100 to get the upgraded ethernet port to future proof it down the road.

Greg, I have to make a correction. You can still configure the 21.5” iMac with a 1TB Fusion Drive. Still, it’s about time that the entire Mac lineup comes standard with an SSD. Good riddance to the traditional hard disk drive! I’m counting down to 100K subscribers!

Just wondering... Will apple disable the color correction features in Photoshop when you enable 'True' Tone ? I bet that it's ON by default so, by default, color correction in any app is disabled because... TRUE TONE SCREWS UP AND SABOTAGES YOUR WHITE LEVEL TEMPERATURE TO MATCH YOUR BLUE, YELLOW, GREEN, PINK, ORANGE PHILIPS HUE LIGHT BULBS !!!!!

I don't see the concern for a redesign. This design seems perfect, especially with the RAM door to easily add memory. And as we now know, the big "redesign" that many people were waiting for, didn't please everybody. This isn't Steve Job's Apple anymore. They'll redesign into something that works more for them, than it will for us

SSD soldered on board so you will have to replace the entire board if you need to replace it... Apple has become too greedy....

With current tech, this would require two controllers-which is something Apple puts on every model that has four full bandwidth TB3 ports. Also, they would have had to change the enclosure . . . like they did for the iMac Pro. And I’m glad they did not just reuse that one as we would have lost the ram door. So-probably just not worth it in their eyes. 10Gb, faster SD. . .plus the four USB-A ports. Unless you have two high red external monitors and a hand speed TB3 storage device, you are probably fine. In that rarer case, the iMac Pro is still for sale.

@@cisko213 The 5500 XT will work fine for general use at this resolution over a TB3 connection. Your workflow might be heavy enough that the upgrade might be worth it, though. This might including AAA gaming, working with certain large wire frames or data sets, and even certain types of video rendering. What do you plan to use the computer for most of the time?

Sir Yoda one screen KZread videos the other screen emails! You know I like to multi-task. My 2009 iMac intel core 2 duo is past its prime. I’ve held off buying any recording devices (mavic drones, go pro, newer cameras) because I can’t edit or even process them anymore. My iPad Pro can handle my canon 7d better than my iMac. Other than that my existing set up acts as a iTunes server for my house. I would like dual screen. External 4 k would be good enough. So 5500xt or upgrade?

@@cisko213 For your use case, I would stick with the 500XT. Are you all set for how much ram and storage you need? Ram is easy to add later in this model, though starting with the 8GB default is going to suck if you use Chrome. You can make it work with Safari. For storage, 512GB is probably enough for the OS and applications for a good long while. It is media storage which can really fill things up. You can either use the money you saved from not upgrading the graphics card to move to a higher SSD . . . or just buy an external USB or TB3 SSD drive, and put your media on that. The setup looks a little less clean on your desk with one more wire, but for the majority of media creators, this would likely not be an issue. And it would be cheaper. Samsung has a 2TB external SSD drive that a lot of people like. It seems like you got good long use out of your 2009 iMac. I think you are going to love the new one.

Out of curiosity, I compared the 5700 XT pro to a 2080ti. Go see for yourself :) I made my conclusion.

What RDNA1?! 🤯🤬 Then what took them so long? I thought they gonna get RDNA2, there is no redesign and pretty much already outdated GPU as always, this should be done months ago 🤬 ...and in their last Intel iMac...They probably did this so the GPU in their Apple Silicon Macs won't look as bad in comparison as they would, *RDNA2 is double the performance of RDNA1 plus ray tracing*❗️

You don't seem to understand that AMD like NVIDIA have what is called reference cards that they put out. From those reference cards ASUS, MSI, Powercolor, Gigabyte, and Sapphire are the first companies to get there hands on the GPUs RDNA 2 to make the new GPUs to be sold to every one. In other words AMD is not now nor will they ever give Apple, PS5, or Xbox the new GPU tech first over ASUS, MSI, Powercolor, Gigabyte, and Sapphire because that is where they are going to make all there money of people upgrading there new GPUs .
