Not true. 100% of Davy Jones is computer generated in 100% of the shots in both "Dead Man's Chest" and "At World's End". There was a plan 'B' in place in case we wanted to utilize the actor's eyes in some shots in "Dead Man's Chest" but that plan was never enacted. Thanks!

My only reaction: Well, you succeeded! Pirates of the Caribbean is the most realistic and hilarious film(s) I've ever seen, and they all look so real!! It's amazing how you guys have done this.

Actually, all of Davy Jones was "animated" as he is entirely a CG character. His eyes and every other part of him seen on screen is a 100% digital creation.

I agree with many of the people here that Davy Jones is the best animated character i've seen so far in any realistic animation movie. Also the Flying Dutchman, which is based on real folklore is a really interesting! It would be cool to know the exact history of each character, although they might not be as interested as Jones or Jack :x

The Coral Reef-looking guy at 1:27 is my absolute favorite crewman (Besides Jones of course). You guys did an absolutely astounding job with the effects in these films especially because (like you said) you suggest a history to every one of the characters you may only see for a few seconds, making any subsequent viewings all the better. Bravo.

It is so awesome what we can do with CG nowadays... we can take anything within our imagination and bring it to life on computer with a bit of dedication and hard-work... oh, and lot's of "cup of noodles". I wish I had the skills to do this... I have so many ideas I want to have realized, but sadly, I don't think I would be capable of making this my profession...

Recall seeing it mentioned somewhere (I think by Hal Hickel) that Davy Jones had 46 tentacles. Is this correct or is the real number unknown? Sorry if this seems like a silly question, but I am interested in knowing if this is true or speculation. I must say, this is great. It's amazing to know that almost everything about Jones was CGI, save for Nighy's incredible performance. Thanks for uploading this, ILM! :)

Thak you...I have a question: to realize Imocap scene is it enought the main camera shooting (35 mm camera) or you need some added cameras as in traditional mocap? I mean: is it enought a camera to receive all 3d data of the actor's movements? Thank you bery very much

@ILMVisualFX I am a artist and I have no problem recommending good brushes :) And Just so you know ILM use a verity of tools many are written by their own programers but the off the shelf tools include but not limited to 3ds Max, Maya and also Apple's final cut pro for editing live footage with the CG. They also use a lot of Python scripting as well as other programing to develop tools specifically needed to fill a need in a particular film or project.
