The soft/vibey type of music is definitely the trend in Korea now thanks to New Jeans. And when I first heard the song I was definitely like, oh this is a copy and paste. But I feel like there’s also some LOONA influences as well. I do wish vocally they had some stronger voices but I can’t deny that from the stages I’ve seen, they perform really well and the chemistry between them is good. I’m looking forward to what they have planned and I’m really liking the whole dreamy magical girl/horror core vibe.

I listened to their album, and it just gave me a whimsical feeling-it gave me Sailor Moon. They will also have their own webtoon called Summer Moon. I think they will have a magic concept; I think the MV even had creepy undertones. It's like they are stuck where they are, and dreams are not always good either, so I think they can play with this concept. Belift, I think, is good when it comes to incorporating lore. They also have live performances. Though I love "Lucky Girl Syndrome," listening to it on the album elevates the performance even more. Yeah, they are doing good domestically and internationally. I find it satisfying because people said they would flop after the show.

Am I the only person who thinks magnetic is nothing like NewJeans at all?

The MV really gave me like a Red Velvet concept through a NewJeans lens. It was very whimsical and oddball but had this youthful NewJeans aesthetic overlay.

Definitely NewJeans inspired but uniquely Ill-it

The genre of the song is plugnbb and BangPD actually had a hand in producing this song but to me the music sounds like something old loona would release or maybe just something produced by jaden jeong. They are Enhypens sister group and will have a WEBTOON and connected lore to them. Their concept is Japanese lolita/coquette inspired not y2k/ trendy like new jeans. I think the hair is similar though.

oh, I agree so much! finally someone talking about these aspects, the only thing I think differently is cause I think Minju should be the main vocal cause her voice is the most powerful in this group right now, even though she was not my pick in r u next, and my bias is Yunah... I just think they needed a strong vocalist as you said, but I think if they gave Minju a high note or something, just anything strong vocally, I think the songs would be so much better! if you want to see more of minju singing, cause you said you don't remeber (and yeah, she wasn't really that charismatic, sometimes i didn't notice her there, maybe that's why you can't remember) I like the performance of Spark from r u next, and chanelle was there too... lol

I don't dislike when people say they are influenced by Newjeans, since Newjeans is probably the trendiest and one of the biggest in K-pop right now. It is inevitable to be influenced by someone who has a perfect formula that attracts fans. What I'm tired of is when people say ILLIT is just Newjeans 2.0 or a copy of Newjeans because it's kind of downplaying ILLIT as a group and discrediting their identity. So when people say something like, "Oh, they copied Newjeans' style and music, HYBE is overusing the concept," it pisses me off. When in fact, there were many groups that debuted after Newjeans that have more similarities with Newjeans than with ILLIT, but ILLIT gets hated more.

ILLIT is a girl group which is composed of 5 members : Wonhee (Korean. She was born in 2007), Minju (Korean. She was born in 2004), Yunah (Korean. She was born in 2004), Iroha (Maknae. Japanese. She was born in 2008) and Moka (Japanese. She was born in 2004). The girl group was formed through a survival show called "R U Next?" which was a collaboration between JTBC and HYBE. The group debuted on March 25, 2024 with "SUPER REAL ME" Mini Album.

Whew, these comments are rampant w delulu chile!! Why is everyone acting like they don't get it!?? There's a clear lineage b/t their sound and that of NJ. No one's saying its a bad thing (not like baemon), we're just SAYING. That soft tone thing etc is very NJ coded. They sound good tho so at least there's that. 🤷🏿‍♂️

Lord… the comments are crazy 😂 They’re literally all babies. I’m excited to see how both groups grow. Though i understand why companies do it, I do think it’s too soon for them to debut. Sound wise, I’m not getting NJ at all. Sonically, I’m getting formis_9, LOONA, and le sserafim. All popular in their own right, all seniors. Aesthetically though? Yeah.. they’re definitely drawing inspo from the same moodboard as the NJ team. It’s fine, it’s a concept I enjoy. Their voices are pleasing and Magnetic is such an earworm. SLOW RABBIT 😭 MISSED HIM SO MUCH. I think this is the first tune I’ve heard from him since BTS. I’m so glad he’s working with these girls.

Yeahh im glad you see the aesthetics but I dunno how you can’t hear NJ at All?! Lool you must’ve not listen to their music much cos they could’ve literally released this with their Get Up EP. It blends easily with OMG & Cool With You and if it was their song it would fit WELL into their discography. More so than most Fromis/Loona or LSF songs I’ve heard.

In Korea, there is a saying that in trying to create perfect idols, we have become similar to New Jeans haha.😂😂

There is no denying about new jeans impact on 5th gen idols in terms of visual, storytelling, and sound. Kinda like how 4th gen had their different feel from 3th gen. However i kinda feel like new jeans is more heavy on y2k and illit is more pluggnb and anime. But i agree that visually and performance wise new jeans impact can be seeing regardless of the different concept and lore.

@@neoteddybearjelly I was in that generation. SS501 and KARA are my favorite at that time. Actually all DSPs. When KARA first became 5 members they have that type of music. Kara used to 4 like FINKL but lost their best vocal member and then Jiyoung and Hara joined in. I was in the generation of transitioning of 1st gen to 2nd gen. When KARA was a 4 members their music are stronger but when they became 5 members it was the type of music like Illit. That's why they are very popular in Japan because of their cute style of music. As KARA 5 members matured their songs matured with them.

Once again, I have to admit that I didn't watch the show where the group was formed, hahah. Ended up being super impressed by how listenable and fun it was. In a way, some of the songs reminded me a lot of Odd Eye Circle's Air Force One? Not in a copy & paste way. More like it was a similar vibe music wise? My one (1) complaint is that I wish they had included at least one more song, but there we are. The MV was quirky in a good way too.

To me they sound like if a really young BOA just debut. But i think it may just be two of their voices. It also feels like an AESPA and NewJeans mix. Not that the voices are similar but the direction of the songs and the sound. I mean makes since there under HYBE!

I feel like they give more loona to me just based off this mini album so far. I see the newjeans inspiration tho they are a young 5 memeber gg under hybe the newjeans comparisons are inevitable. It’s also a cutesy school girlish vibe with the laid back vocals and very prominent beat production… the formula was a crazy successful outcome Why would they switch up the formula now? 😂

Sonically, Loona/Odd Eye Circle inspired except that last track. You can see New Jeans in the visuals. Overall I like their music direction even though its nothing new. This debut was lukewarm. Still I will add the title and Midnight Fiction to my dreamy kpop playlist. I did not like the last song. I give it a 6.8/10. If the songs were longer and it featured more tracks i would give it a higher ranking.

The picture in my thumbnail alone screams newjeans loool. The denial I’ve seen is crazy. Give NJ their dues, even if it was RV coded (which it barely is because it’s not that poppy and more laidback choreo/vocal wise) there is still NJ influence, CLEARLY.

i mean yeah almost all 5th gen groups has been dubbed newjeans copy. especially RIIZE, TWS, BND, TripleS, and now ILLIT. All copies of newjeans but yeah ILLIT might be the group who can go head to head with newjeans in terms of popularity. ILLIT has been getting records here and there being the first or the fastest at each category.

You would think some of these people hate NWJS by the sheer horrific reaction that comes after simply bringing them into the conversation lol. There’s nothing wrong with them being on illit’s vision board, cause they definitely were lol. The title track could literally be in New Jeans last mini album and this isn't a offense to them it just sounds really similar to what the company is used to produce. It's also a sound that (I think) is never going to get old, it works well and it's "easy" to listen.

If i had to pick a inspo I'm getting - I'm thinking more F(X) in the musical style but visually / fashion it's def NewJeans cause i feel like they saw it just works. then again its really all min heejin so it makes sense that i can see f(x) and newjeans in illit.

Had to peep your reaction after your post.....man, people need to chill lol. only kpop fans will take a compliment and turn it toxic. If this were something like the NBA and I said "dang, this player reminds me of a young Michael Jordan or LeBron" and the fans of that player jumped all over me, it'd find it pretty ridiculous considering what a compliment that is. Anyhoo.....I actually kinda get why in this first vid Wonhee is sort of the "center" (I haven't really read up on the group and don't know if they have official positions). It seems like she's definitely the member post formation that got the most buzz (and it seems like both positive and negative?). I also saw their pre debut variety on their channel and she definitely jumps out naturally and, at least in korean terms, the most well spoken and naturally entertaining.

People can't bring phrase "illit will be flop" Anymore because they're debut is so good, then they came with new thing called "newjeans copy, 2.0 newjeans" It's fine at start, i feel they praise illit for having good concept but then it become insult to downplay illit using newjeans fame, it's deffo an honor if they is similar to newjeans and hopefully success like newjeans too, but the way they say it like they think lowly to illit, they treat illit like they steal newjeans identity

I dont like any newjeans songs but Midnight Fiction and Magentic do it for me.

Lool I’m glad you gave that example cos it’s proved how people are definitely forcing the Loona comparisons cos that song is groovier, higher in energy, stronger in vocals and is sonically so different to magnetic than any NJ song. So if people hear Loona before NJ who are closer in genre then it’s definitely disingenuous cos Cool With You & OMG are way more similar. I know you didn’t say it isn’t anything like NJ but if anyone else is imagining songs like love4eva then I can’t trust their judgement.

Yeah I definitely agree that the sound is more similar to New Jeans' genre and in now way do I think the title track sounds like love4eva but something about it just tickles my brain? Don't know how else to describe it but other songs that give me that kinda feeling are New Jeans Hype Boy, WJSN Secret, Loona/OEC Girl Front and Pristin V Get It 😊

For me magnetic it's giving LOONA 💝 the only thing that reminds me of New Jeans is their hairstyle lmao. Magnetic could easily be Gowon's solo or Vivi's solo

Does anyone else think that this video reminds them of Red Velvet...? Like rookie RV used to have cutesy songs like this with weird long, black hair aesthetic (Peek-A-Boo) and like weird concepts (rolling down a carpet or sitting in the dark lol). I have so many opinions about this debut line-up lol, BUT I'm supporting the girls, the HYBIES, specifically my biases Iroha and Moka. Hoping the best for Youngseo! Sonically I don't connect them to new jeans a lot but that magnetic MV, new jeans everywhere. Not necessarily a bad thing for debut, but might be problem if it's continue in this direction all the way forward.

LOOOL and yet I criticised most SM releases from last year. Unlike you and many of your fellow weirdos I’m not a “stan” of a company without bias, I point things out for everyone cos I’m not delulu.

I guess I'm on "wait and see" status with this group for now. Though, I think they made a good choice with the concept+sound. With the current trend for soft songs + soft vocalists, there is limited room to differentiate. Even within Hybe, they have NewJeans established at one spot and even LSF went softer via another approach with "Easy". So, credit to them for finding another way to differentiate their group, and keeping it a mainstream hit, while keeping the soft vocals sound (which they needed to based on the members they selected for Illit). So, yeah, good job to them on this first step

I always remembered Wonhee as standing out the most for me while she was on the show. It was her facial expressions. She wasn't the strongest singer or dancer as far as I remember, but there was something about her where my eyes gravitated towards here whenever she was on stage. In the end, I wasn't surprised she made it. She hadn't even been a trainee that long. I feel like everything else will get better with experience, but she's a star on stage and in their debut MV for me.

This song is absolutely amazing, but this mv makes me feel very uncomfortable…

and by the way minju is a better vocalist than chanelle 👍🏽

There’s nothing wrong with being another new jeans…..if they weren’t in hybe. JYPE has 5 active girl groups, all dropped music this year and it’s not even the end of march, none of the singles sound like the other. That’s how u debut multiple girl groups in the same company. Not this

Illit concept and music was planned before newjeans. Illit was originally planned for iland but it got delayed because of pandemic. Then hybe end their contract for iland.
