Welcome to my KZread channel Hairliciously. In this channel, I will be taking you on a journey of my FUE hair transplant progress. Towards the end of November 2016, I had a 1700 FUE hair transplant done in South Korea at Motion Clinic (en.motionclinic.kr) to lower my hairline and to fill in my receding temples. The FUE hair transplant procedure took me about 7-8 hours to complete and cost me approximately $5000 USD.
I will be doing daily updates on my hair transplant progress, so feel free to subscribe and ask any questions you have. Thanks for visiting!
Please like, comment and subscribe! :)
======================================
Products I am using to supplement my FUE hair transplant:
1. HAIRLICIOUSLY Dr Pen 1.5mm 1-2x a week. (temples and hairline)
2. HAIRLICIOUSLY Hair Growth Supplement 2x a day
3. Minoxidil (Rogaine) - Minoxidil slows hair loss progression and promotes hair regrowth. I've noticed that using Minoxidil helped me grow my transplanted hairs a lot more quicker.
4. Pumpkin Seed Oil 1000 mg + HAIRLICIOUSLY Vitamins

I have a recommendation, first, you should ALWAYS INCLUDE IN THE START OF ALL YOUR VIDEOS, with this, don’t get 540 micro needles roller. The needles aren’t the same than the 192. Since you are a source of knowledge for people that don’t know about microneedles roller. People see one of your videos and right away look to buy one online. And they without knowing can cause more damage than good. And you would be the one causing that because your videos are peppered around on KZread about this topic. So advice to you for other people that you influence, at the start of your videos, any, remember folks! Don’t buy 540 needle roller, the needles are larger. Look at my 192 needle roller on my website where the needles are same the entire length. 540 needles are triangular shape. So please, do this, I know people that are scarred and you’re causing this. If you’ll talk about it all the time, remind people because they see one video of yours and they immediately think, oh 540 covers larger area let me get that. But they don’t see the detail of the needle shape. Thank you

Truthfully, I've noticed better results with a deeper depth - 1.5 to 2.0 mm with a Derma-Pen. It's painful and bleeds a lot, but seems to 'wake up' my follicles better than a shallower depth. I use a lidocaine topical numbing spray before using the Derma-Pen - and it's still pretty uncomfortable.

Comparing the diagrams at 4:30 and 5:20, it would seem that bulge hair follicle stem cells are located in between two layers of blood vessels, one above and one below. Thus, one would assume that a sufficient needle length to target the bulge layer would need to draw some blood - the needles would have to penetrate at least the upper layer of blood vessels (4:30). Given that scalp skin thickness may vary between individuals, one could experiment with needle depth to find the length that is long enough to draw blood, but short enough to minimize healing time. Furthermore, needle lengths that do not draw blood may be assumed to be insufficient to stimulate the bulge hair follicle stem cells. (I am not a doctor.)

The needle length is so variable, at least with manual (non-electronic) devices. Even if you use a 2mm needle, you'll have areas where you didn't press as hard and only achieved a depth of 1mm.

  • @asdftreeful

I used a 1.5mm for the past 9 months. Dreaded doing it every 2 weeks cuz it really hurts and I’m a baby. I’m pressing hard though and feeling the needle fully penetrate to its full depth. There’s blood everywhere. I just switched to a 1mm. Way less painful. My head still bleeds just as much with a 1mm. Every single pin point bleeds. I’m pressing firmly so the needle actually goes 1mm depth. If you’re using 1.5 and softly pressing, it’s probably only penetrating 0.5mm depth. Why not use a smaller size and firmly press? This would ensure that needle actually goes the intended depth. You might as well use a 10mm needle if you’re just going to gently press it against your head…

When microneedling are you only trying to achieve scalp redness and not draw blood? For instance, when using a 1.5mm microneedling device, the full length must penetrate your skin. Meaning that you must apply the maximum pressure needed for the whole 1.5mm needle to go in right? If so, It's impossible not to get bloody.

To be honest, the epidermis is 0.5mm so anything past that by using a 1.5mm with moderate pressure enough to evoke erythema/pinpoint bleeding should potentially penetrate the dermis layer and stimulate the hair follicle stem cell bulge. I've seen people who bleed as well as people who only get redness/pinpoint bleeding. I guess to be sure you're targeting the bulge 100%, you can go as high as 2.5mm and while the full 2.5mm depth isn't theoretically puncturing the scalp, there's no doubt that you'd be hitting the bulge even with moderate pressure.

Great video. I was recommend PRP injections for hair growth, but the cost of $799 treatment every 3 months FOREVER seemed excessive so I started researching other options. I’ve had face microneedling performed before, and on the scalp it makes a lot of sense in comparison to what PRP offers - which is basically injection of growth cells taken from your own blood that they draw and inject with a needle. This seems like another way that promotes that blood to be targeted to the scalp for hair regrowth through the needling into the skin layers - where blood and growth cells will start to build up to repair and rebuild.

You didn't cover scarring as a potential side affect on the long-term, and that's the reason why some expert do not recommend longer needles and too frequent sessions (eg. Gary Linkov). Scarring can work against hair growth and make hair replacement therapy more difficult later.

@@dh1474 yes. I don’t use a roller any more though. I’ve been using an adjustable derma-stamp (so the pins puncture straight in and not on a rolling angle so as not to cause as much damage) along with the minoxidil and I also use various essential oils (peppermint sand tea tree with a castor carrier oil) that promote hair growth. I never could grow a beard or much facial hair at all until I began using minoxidil and later on the stamp in conjunction with even better results. I have a fairly decent beard now though my cheeks are a little patchy. I still do all this daily. My scalp is thickening as well. It’s amazing. It takes patience as it takes awhile to see results but stay consistent and you’ll reap the rewards. I hear this machine called a Dermanator 2 is like a stamp but with a motor and makes it go by way faster. Oh I also go to a depth of about 1.5 on my face and scalp. What I’ll do is every morning I’ll use minoxidil and about 5 hours later I’ll rinse my face with warm water to open the pours then I’ll massage some of the essential oil mixture on my beard area and scalp (the essential oils are toxic to pets just an fyi) and later in the evening I’ll use minoxidil again. I will stamp my beard area and scalp once a week. I don’t use any oils or minoxidil when I stamp because of the depth the needles go. I don’t want anything getting into my blood stream.

The study showed 0.6mm worked better than 1.2mm. So why on earth would you use 1.5mm? Maybe the reason 1.2mm did not work as well as 0.6mm is because it caused injury to some hair follicles. Also, the company Follica, which has been doing research for it's own products, recommends 0.8mm. I would assume they tried depths greater than 1.0mm in their research and found deeper is not better. I wouldn't go more than 1.0mm until more studies come out.

A comparison of actual achieved depth with different rollers, stamps and electronic micro-needlers(dr.pen, derminator) would be super beneficial. Also I am doing 0.5mm-0.75mm everyday and doing the 1.5mm once or twice every week. Is that ok? Seems like doing 1.5mm too often would result in hair fracks or darkened skin. Also, I judge the effective of each session by the feeling of blood oozing to the head. If I don't feel it, I increase the needle length.

I try to microneedle around noon (once a week, with a motorized tool at 1.6-1.75 mm needle length, top needling speed, with a little bit of numbing cream). That way I can apply minoxidil at night (11 PM) without minoxidil entering my bloodstream. I have been following that routine for about four months, with decent, but not drastic, results.

We needf to see some studies comparing dermarolling and microneedling. People keep saying microneedling is better because it doesn't tear at the scalp in the same way. But isn't that the whole point? It's supposed to cause damage to the scalp. The only studies I've seen results on were from rolling. I'll stick to that until there is actual proof that it's not as good.
