Just because he's your friend does not mean he treats his interns well. You'll have to be objective here and instead of questioning the veracity of the claims check first if it can actually happen.

agree about not speaking bad about an ex employer but the example given about the intern working for your close friend does not necessarily mean the intern was not telling the truth. That's an example of coloured judgement.

This happened, my last employer was not treating me financially as promised (many times verbally & once over email), I changed my job, new employer asked the reason I straight told I was not financially satisfied. At that time, I didn't know most of the ceo and owners in my city knows each other and they assume they are good because they behave good with each other (and that is formal behaviour that you present while meeting someone for once or twice-thats some other subject anyways) So TLDR; new employer and seniors thinks I am working here only for money etc (I mean they are partially right, but everyone works for money) Anyways, the learning is don't complain or speak extensively about your ex employer.

I had a truly terrible boss, when I was a software developer in a small startup. I’d get calls near midnight(time zone difference) and I need to attend or I’ll never hear the end of my lackadaisical work. Zero appreciation for my work. and I was working on multiple roles too. But when I quit and my next employer asked me, I had to lie. I had to say how much I learned by working with my ex ceo. It is the world we live in. Amish’s friend might be a terrible boss and Amish might be biased due to their past relationships but the intern needs to be diplomatic(lie through his/ her teeth) if he/ she needs to survive long in professional environments

Atleast he's fair to speak up the truth about his ex-boss who's a non performer. Any good leader with great leadership qualities will always be praised unlike his ex-boss and that's the reason he's leaving him. You still have to taste how corporates work. We tell honestly the reason why we left the previous company and it could be bad management or low quality work. Unlike corporates, lawyer lobby never want or like to be criticized no matter what.

Guess what, people change jobs because something did not work for them, and they also want to stay honest with their new connection. You might know the boss person from yearly or quarterly meet, But person who worked under boss had to deal with them everyday, so they might have in depth perspective about the boss' personality

Agreed but it's not fair to totally to rule out the possibility that the former boss has not ever misbehaved with anybody in his professional life. Amit sir, I think of it as a formality one should abide by to be on the safer side.. however agree that slander doesn't sit well in a professional setting.

I found your videos to be refreshingly above and beyond the usual brown-nosing standards of the profession; until now that is. To speak ill of an ex-employer is not an indication of how you are likely to be spoken about at the conclusion of your employer-employee relationship, but rather a crystal clear assertion of what the intern is deliberately eliminating as a prospect as a professional, and I believe that the right to assert what you want and what you don't want in your place of work is not only necessary but also desirable. If you're so worried about being spoken ill of, treat your juniors better and give them a greater opportunity to bud as professionals before disregarding their candidature based on one statement that may, at best, be deemed unpleasant.

Isn't crrt

Stop this pretense as if what you're uttering is the holy truth. Your perspective of your close friend might very well differ from what people around him might have to say about him. And you just rejected a potential candidate for his opinion on your friend. Side note, read Daniel Kahneman's Thinking Fast & Slow, and learn about heuristic biases before KZread.

Lol have you worked with or under your friend like the intern did? The intern spent more time working with your friends and he definitely has a better idea of how your friend conducts himself professionally than you do. Your judgment here is compromised because the intern's ex-boss is your friend and you are biased.
