Pre-2000 Nissan's were pretty good. Too bad they aren't so anymore. Also lucky that somebody thought about putting that external pump on that car. Most people don't think of the long term implications. They'd just sell it and make it someone else's problem. Sold a 99 Sentra in 2005. Still on the road 250k miles or so... 2015 Note, 75k and barely limping along. A class action suit and an extended warranty isn't doing much good.

Hey Scotty, I bought a 1998 Toyota Corolla with 207K miles on it for $900. The car hung in there to 280K. In the end I junked it for $180 at the scrap yard. I work for a warranty company and run into this often. We only accept invoices from a shop that show date, mileage, yr, make, model, etc. People want to send in O’reillys receipts showing where oil and a filter were bought ... how do I know it was for that specific car in question? How do I know the date and mileage? Those receipts mean nothing to us.

I bought my 94 Opel Astra F for 500 euros (roughly 500 dollars) and have been driving it for 4 years without any serious problems. I've had to fix a few (non-)issues with the suspension (in order to pass the mandatory vehicle inspection) a year ago but other than that I've7 had to not do anything to it except oil changes and some rust repair. It has almost 300 000 kilometers on it and I've driven almost 70 000 km of it. Best purchase I've ever made. I propably keep it as long as it breaks completely and buy a new 500 euro rust bin. The timing belt will propably snap soon but I don't bother changing it. When it snaps I propably try to fix the timing myself. If it's too much work I will just tow it to a junk yard.

The only problem with Saturn is availability of parts. Since they are no longer in production the only parts available are aftermarket and then some parts aren't available at all. My parents have the station wagon SW2 and can't find a replacement switch for the AC fan. Their "high" speed went out years ago and nobody has the parts.

I had a 92 Toyota Camry I bought for around $2,000. I bought it for my daughter, she drove it, had it for a few years and after she got married her and her husband sold it. I think they sold it for around $1,600. It was in very good shape, but the air conditioning didn't work because the condenser was broken and it wasn't worth replacing, value-wise. They were kind of surprised they got that much for it. A father bought it for his high school son, if I remember correctly.

Dear Scotty, I needed a plow truck so I took your advise on what trucks not to buy and bought a 1988 Ford Bronco with the 5.0 V8 and it already had a western plow on it that worked great. It isn't an F150, but close enough. It needed the ignition actuator replaced (what a pain) and it needs rear brakes. The truck only has 125K miles on it and it runs strong and shifts great. It does have a couple rot holes in the floor, but the body is nice and has original paint. I plan on cutting out the rot and patching the floors. Everyone overlooked this truck on craigslist because it was way too old and in Massachusetts where rust is king, but I may use it for a third vehicle as well as just a plow rig as it is in amazing shape for something this old. I probably wouldn't have looked at this truck if it wasn't for your video on what the best used trucks to buy are. Even if it never sees the road it will make a strong running plow truck for my property and it's fun to mess around with.

Ireland , the only thing with older cars over here is higher tax on them .So people generally get rid of cars over ten years old . because after the ten years is up the tax does too ._ And insurance can be steep too even with a newly tested cars . . I'm cheap so i keep the liters 1.4 and under anything like a 2.0 avensis could cost upto 650-700 a year on tax .

Basically they want people to buy new , finance is pushed big time tbh .. It's not about being poor or working class anybody can get a finance deal really but you might as well jump into shark infested waters imo dragging that onto yourself . If older cars where of a lower insurance bracket and cheap tax then it wouldn't give people an incentive to buy new . . I'm happy with my 04 thats paid for tbh . .._.And there's an element of keeping up with the Joneses too lol .

Got my 91 Ford Tempo for free. It sat for 4 years, some simple maintenance, new battery, fresh fuel, new tires, and a CV axle and its been running fine for the past year, just did its 1st tune-up, yes 1st tune-up in 28 years this afternoon. For a 28 year old car it runs and drives great, gets mid 20's for fuel economy in town and mid 30's for fuel economy on the highway...and that's without an electronically controlled transmission and no overdrive, yes a 3 speed automatic, and a 2.3L 4 cylinder engine...even many of today's cars have a hard time getting any decent fuel economy with twice as many gears, and full of electronics to supposedly help with economy. So yes you can find pretty decent cheap cars if you look hard enough and not afraid to do a little routine maintenance which is what many older vehicles are lacking....granted the paint on my car isn't that great, it has never been wrecked, a few very small scratches and dents here and there but for a 28 year old car its in pretty good shape, if the typical 80's paint/clear coat problems don't sway you away. It runs and drives great, I could care less that the clear coat is gone....its just basically a flat red color without the clear coat LOL.

Those were good cheap little cars. They didn't run forever but you could get 150K miles out of them at least. And Ford sold millions of them so there were always a bunch of them for sale used cheap as they had poor resale value.

@@waltbullet1287 With a NEW car you'll USUALLY have little difficulty enforcing a warranty...esp. if the repair is a minor one. You've paid a LOT for that guarantee. With "certified used", there is always a warranty and it's usually enforceable. I'd rather save all that money, buy a really good used from the original owner with service records and for a model that has a great proven record of reliability and good PPI from my own mechanic. Been doing that all my life (so far) and have never gotten burned. But people do what they want to do.
