Alex Cintas That’s what I heard. I’ve had to replace its struts, brakes, and a few coolant leaks, but I’ve had no problems with the engine or transmission. I don’t remember where I heard it, but it’s said you could throw a Toyota off the Golden Gate Bridge, fish it out 100 years later, fill its gas tank with peanut butter, and it’d still run.

Blew three gears in the transmission @ 202,000kms 13 months after buying it (1 month after extended warranty ran out). During transmission replacement, shop discovered the drivers side half shaft & bearings were broken & needed to be replaced. Cost me $4300 for a vehicle worth less than $4k. All of their engines are inspired by Formula 1, most of their best engines will come on Type S, Type R, and SI models. Really though in all honestly, the older Fiats weren't too bad due to repair and servicing were just really simple for them. Many were built as very cheap, affordable cars for the working class. At least that was the case where I live, where you could literally buy spares for a '93 Fiat Tempra from a corner grocery store :P Nowadays here in Turkey if you're buying a second hand fiat from that era, there is a very good chance the owner has at least once in their life done some form of DIY work on the car

I don't remember the mileage when he first bought it, but I'm surprised that it currently has 163k miles and has literally given us no trouble in the 6 years we've owned it, considering it does have a CVT transmission. It runs very smoothly as well. But after it finally decides to break down, we will definitely consider either a Toyota Sienna or Honda Odyssey.
