if we can load her - we will buy her : Camilleshorsemanship

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

while we were in mexico the owner of this horse kept calling, and several calls later we made arrangements to drive out and give this horse a try.
we agreed on a price of the horse, IF we can load her, we will buy her for that.
the owner bought her over a year ago, and when she got her home, she realized they were not a match.
things progressively got worse, most particularly when it came to trailer loading and unloading.
to the point that it was dangerous for her to be in a trailer with this horse.
she had enough. she is a senior rider and needs a gentler horse in her life.
Jordan spent some time (maybe 10 minutes) getting to know the mare, and then went to showing the mare a few things that he will ask at the trailer of her...helping to set the mare up with understanding.
took maybe another 10 minutes at the trailer to load and unload and load her again
the owner was relieved! and happy.
she knows the mare will get the training it needs and the care it needs to succeed in life
watch for progress updates on this mare
who we need to name

Jordan is the essence of patience. All his body language and actions are easy and show no fuss. All forgiving toward horse mistakes. He doesn't act to punish the fear that drives bad behavior.

Sometimes all a horse needs is time and patience, with no emotion from the person. Jordan demonstrated everything she needed in the trailer loading sequence. His timing, his response, his ability to wait on her...I thoroughly enjoyed watching this. He gave her just enough encouragement and forward energy with his cues and body language that she soon understood what he asked from her. Watching this reminded me of the three-hour trailer loading session I once had with my first horse. Long story short, that night I listened to Duke and not the impatient people around (long time horse owners) who kept telling me to push and wanted to use ropes to force him in. I ignored them, and patiently allowed his confidence to grow...and then it happened. He stopped backing out, he chose to stand quietly, and we went on our way. From that moment on, he loaded himself and never backed out until I asked him to. Time and patience, listening to and understanding what that horse needs in that moment does wonders. I love your channel and your approach with the horses. ☺

I love the gentle techniques of a true horseman. Using positive reinforcement and rewards for baby step progress. You allowed the mare to go at her own pace, get used to the task presented before her and rewarded her along the way. Once she was loaded, her ears weren't pinned back. She didn't look panicked. I love it!

I used pellets and a smidgen of sweet feed to entire my two-year-old APHA filly to think differently about the trailer. Her previous owners roped her, forced her into a trailer as a yearling, and scared her to death. Now she speeds up to get to the horse trailer, jumps in, and waits for me to get in next to her to tie her in. She always gets a small hand full of hay pellets for the right behavior. It works every time. She's using the thinking side of her brain.

Good strategy to make her uncomfortable when she moves to the side and relief when she’s faced to the entrance of the trailer. She’s probably gotten away with lots of bad behavior and needs to unlearn those habits under your guidance. She is a stunning mare and should come around in no time to make the right person a great companion.

People get in too much of a hurry with horses. They expect them to understand and accept immediately. When results don't happen quickly, the human gets either impatient or scared. Then bad things happen. Horse people just need to learn to slow down and let the horse process. You might be able to force a horse into compliance but eventually that fear will show up again...and worse.

Love the horse. I raised, bred, and showed paints 🐴 for over 25 years. One, I could not hear anything on this video, so I don't know how this man was talking to the horse, was it kind, or was it stern and harsh?? I know what you'll probably say.... But I won't subscribe to a channel where someone is constantly hitting the horse with a whip! I know you will say, he was just lightly whipping him 🤬 NO!! I've owned horses longer than y'all have been alive, and with the RIGHT training....In my book, there is NEVER a time where the animal should be hit over and over again!! She never got out of hand, she was just scared or worried about getting in the trailer, especially with the one door shut, open it up for crying out loud!! Can only imagine how she's going to be trained, undoubtedly with a whip. I'm not saying you can't USE a whip as an extension of your arm for ground work or what not, but like I said before, NO reason that horse should have EVER been hit repeatedly. And it wasn't that light of a hit, because that mare flinched every time!! I'm actually sorry that beautiful horse is going home with you!! I've trailer trained many horses and NEVER used a whip! Signing off extremely saddened ☹️ and disappointed 😞 in you.

At what point was the horse “whipped”? What I saw was using the whip as an extension of his arm. The whip gently touched her hind quarters like a person would use their hand to encourage. I did not see at any point cracking of the whip or striking the horse in a hostile or abusive manner. What I see is the whip being used as an extension of the arm to help apply minimal pressure. I did not see frustration or impatience.

I wd have opened BOTH rear trailer doors, as its an enclosed space, and dark on the floor and dark halfway up the walls, so any horse does not see well in the dark, and being a prey animal, doesnt like small enclosed spaces, hence the hesitation/refusal to get in, its simply against their prey nature to go into a small, semi dark confined space. I wd also turn on ALL the interior lights, and cover the floor with very light sawdust so its not dark and the horse can easily SEE the floor; that wd help. I once saw a gal load a nervous horse very easily onto a trailer on the first try. she waited until dark, put the horse trailer in a dark area near the corral, (no lights in the corral); turned on all the lights INSIDE the trailer, put light colored sawdust on its floor, opened both rear doors, and because it was the ONLY well lit thing in a dark area, the horse just was led up to it and stepped into it immediately. was a real light bulb moment for me!
