I've been to some places with a way different type of attitude towards people in customer service and other types of jobs that require you to interact with hundreds or even thousands of people a day. There's also the case of there just really being some terrible people out there. Also people who are terrible at their job usually get fired before the screaming becomes an "all-the-time" thing. Not trying to discredit the years and years you've spent in the industry, but there are usually many more factors that go into these kinds of things. also i only realised this after writing this whole comment but i think this comment is supposed to make light of the fact that how you prepare for and end up handling things when you DO end up in this situation is meant to be the biggest indicator of whether or not you're cut-out for this line of work. Regardless of if it happens rarely or commonly. If you can handle the worst, more than likely you'll be great working with the rest.

The worst is when it turns out your password wasn't even wrong, it was your username which you didn't realize didn't have a space. Especially when it actually did have a space, but the organization made a new rule that usernames can't have spaces, and retroactively changed your username to not have a space without telling you (and even when you try to ask them, they lie and say they didn't do it). Yes, this actually happened with my bank.

Who doesn't use the same email account all the time? I have 3. Live account for obvious reasons, and two Gmail accounts for different things. And you have extra security and back up methods. Although I can understand if you are a person that for some reason thinks they should use their ISP email account... Just keep the same one for years to come and you will be fine!

Just inpect it and change type=password to type=a and it'll show the password

My personal hell is when you need to make up a new password, and whatever you suggest is rejected because it "doesn't meet our requirements for a strong password"- but they don't say what the requirements are, so it's a guessing game to find some combination of characters that the software will accept. Then you write it on a Post-It and tack it to your monitor.

My job used to have this issue, we used Microsoft, and while Microsoft let's you customize password requirements, it doesn't let you customize the login/password change page that shows what the password requirements are so people are just screwed, because it won't tell them the requirements. Microsoft refuses to fix this. We eventually just gave up and made our own SSO system.

This situation calls for a very specific kind of rage.

His deadly mistake was using the old password. Whenever I forget mine I come up with something entirely new to avoid this. And it's easier to remember if it relates to the agony this situation caused me. Smth like "WhyG0dwhy" or "F***you[websitename]" or "bruhhhh~" make it emotional.

The time-keeping system at my work does this every 30 days. The geniuses who set up the user interface decided that the PW needs to be updated every 30 days. But when you try to log in, instead of saying that, they thought it would be funny to just tell you your password is incorrect. So then you get to experience this once a month

My bank does that $#!+ and at times, that password was from 2 years ago. It seems they keep them stored so I can't reuse incase that password was compromised. I was forced to updated Evey 6 months but now I use biometrics and an app, I haven't had to change it.

That's actually a surprisingly better error message then most. Most just claim it "can't be the same as the previous password" rather than it "any previous password". A lot of time I've seen users change their password to something, and forgot they did that, and still remember the old password, but then when they try to update it they get the "can't be the same as your previous password" error, because they tried to set it to the old password, but the system really means it can't be a password they've ever used before and keeps a database of all the passwords they've ever used.

I see that Caleb knows about the "Mason chapel" palm position, let me explain. As you press your fingers flush and apply slowly gentle force, you will at a certain point start feeling your heart beat. This will help you keep your calm and control your anxiety, as you're mind is focused on your heart beat pulse, add to it controlled berating and you can get anxiety out of the way from seconds to a few minutes after applying this technique, practice and do it as often as you can, this will help your mind remember the state you were in, which is calm and help you beat anxiety within moments after this, I am still doing this to this day when ever I have to speak up during a meeting.

btw turns out there is a reason websites can tell you if you used a password before but cant just send it to you. Its because websites are supposed to encrypt your passwords so even they dont have access to the plaintext versions. Each time you submit a password it gets encrypted with the same algorithm and they compare the jumbled results. If the password is the same the encrypted strings will match, which is how they can tell when your resetting a password if your using an old one, they just compare the new one against the old ones.

Once dealing with Microsoft I was locked out of my email. I had to prove that the email belonged to me. I gave them the person I last sent an email to. I gave them 3 people in my contacts. I gave them 2 former passwords. I also gave them the usual personal details. They made me wait 10 days to tell me that I didn't give enough proof.
