Beethoven goes metal. A mashup of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata with Metallica's One, arranged by Brooklyn Duo and performed live by Brooklyn Duo and Dover Quartet. Get the sheet music here: bit.ly/3kluFId

Patrick was a bit of a metal head in high school, and he went to many a Metallica concert as a kid. We had the idea to do a classical/metal mashup for a while, and when Patrick started experimenting with the Moonlight Sonata and One, we knew it was a match made in heaven. And who better to help us execute this arrangement than the incredible Dover Quartet 🔥🔥. Check out some more shredding in the Quartet’s brand new video of Shostakovich’s 8th String Quartet over on Brooklyn Classical (bit.ly/30SIqHt). See you next week for another new video!
Special thank you to Casey Schmidt and Northwest Grip for his video expertise.
Brooklyn Duo:
Marnie Laird, piano
Patrick Laird, cello
Dover Quartet:
Joel Link, violin
Bryan Lee, violin
Milena Pajaro-van-de-Stadt, viola

LYRICS:
I can't remember anything
Can't tell if this is true or dream
Deep down inside I feel to scream
This terrible silence stops me
Now that the war is through with me
I'm waking up, I cannot see
That there's not much left of me
Nothing is real but pain now
Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please God, wake me
Back in the womb, it's much too real
In pumps life that I must feel
But can't look forward to reveal
Look to the time when I'll live
Fed through the tube that sticks in me
Just like a wartime novelty
Tied to machines that make me be
Cut this life off from me
Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please God, wake me
Now the world is gone, I'm just one
Oh God, help me
Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please God, help me
Darkness imprisoning me
All that I see
Absolute horror
I cannot live
I cannot die
Trapped in myself
Body my holding cell
Landmine has taken my sight
Taken my speech
Taken my hearing
Taken my arms
Taken my legs
Taken my soul
Left me with life in hell
BROOKLYN DUO BIO:
Founded in 2014, Brooklyn Duo has quickly established itself as one of today’s most successful classical crossover ensembles. Through its creative arrangements and live video performances, the piano and cello duo has garnered a huge following, with over 1.2 million KZread subscribers and over 150 million streams annually on platforms such as Spotify and Pandora Radio. Their music has been used in numerous television shows, including Grey's Anatomy, Pretty Little Liars, Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist, America's Got Talent, and most recently during the 2020 Democratic National Convention.
Members Marnie and Patrick Laird met while students at the same chamber music festival and were married in 2012. Both worked as professional musicians after graduating from the Eastman and Juilliard schools of music, respectively; Patrick as a founding member of popular cello rock band, Break of Reality, and Marnie as principal pianist of the New World Symphony. In 2014, on a whim, the couple recorded two covers and released them on KZread. They were thrilled when Shakira herself took notice of their cover and tweeted about it. The boost from that exposure and the positive response they were getting on KZread encouraged them to continue creating videos.
Today, Marnie and Patrick have released over 100 videos on their Brooklyn Duo KZread channel and 10 albums of covers, spanning artists from The Beatles to Metallica to Ariana Grande. They also have a second KZread channel, "Brooklyn Classical", which aims to introduce classical music to a larger audience through high quality, live video performances.
Popular classical music stations Classic FM and WQXR regularly share Brooklyn Duo’s music on their social media pages, with Classic FM calling the duo “masters of the artfully planned pop cover.”

I saw Metallica in Philly back around 1994-95 . But I never heard them sound like this ! Beautiful recording ; these people are absolute VIRTUOSOS ... they really did Beethoven justice . I haven't done any research on you yet ; but if you don't have any albums out , I think it would be WONDERFUL for you to do so and get them released just in time for the holiday season . I had this on blast and will be sending it to my friends who LOVE both Rock and Classical .
