***** Rakim and Chuck D are both rap Gods that I got the up most respect for. I was going by my list of and I did buy 1 public enemy album when i got into to rap in the early 90's but I wasn't as into them as I was the other artist on my list. I'd feel fake putting them on my top 10 when I didn't listen to them everyday and buy every album of theres that came out like I did with Cube, Dogg Pound, Eminem, Kurupt, Snoop, 2pac, etc. If some one put Chuck D or Rakim in there top 10 I's respect that and could not argue about it. Both of those guys are 500 times better then a lil wayne, Drake, or flacka flame.

***** very true man, ive heard all those albums and I can't say that I've never heard anything from Rakim or PE that I thought was wack. I grew up with a group of friends and we all love hip hop, I was the one dud in the group that just spent my money on West coast artist. for 10 years thats really all i bought till Em came out, since then, I have opened my mind (and wallet) up to artist all over the country. for ablums that have come out this year my CD player has only 2 albums in it, Kendrick's To Pimp a Butterfly and G unit's The Beast is G uint. Here is what is weird about the new G unit.....I was a huge fan of 50 when he first came out, his 1st 3 albums i thought were flawless but the I don't understand how his new shit is hip hop generic but the new G unit stuff is just awesome.

I'm 41 years of age and I've been listening to Hip Hop since it began in the late 70s. I've heard a lot of good rappers but I don't place all rappers in the same category. I'm not talking about style and I'm not even talking about genre. I'm talking about type. In my research, I've discovered that there are three types of rappers (Lyricists, Poets and for lack of a better word Flowists) Lyricists are the wordsmiths who you can tell are highly literate. Most of them speak to your intellect. Their raps are designed to make you focus on their words often to the detriment of their beats and instrumental. Next there are the Poets. Poets are abstract. They speak to your heart and make you feel their words or they'll rap in a way that make you have to think twice about what you think you're hearing by expressing their points with clever arrangements of words, sentences and phrases. Then there are the Flowists. They are expert at blending with beats and instrumentals. They rap like they're surfing on the beat. They usually have really good cadences that sound so good you may not care about what they're saying. I'm going to list the top ten Lyricists and then the top five Poets and Flowists. I'm interested in other people's opinion on my take. Lyricists: 1. K Rino 2. Rakim 3. Nas 4. Brutha Lynch Hung 5. Jada Kiss 6. Jay Z 7.Eminem 8. Scarface 9. Ice Cube 10. J Cole Honorable Mention: KRS ONE, Biggie Smalls, Ghost Face Killer, Method Man, Hopsin and Lil Kim Poets: 1. Tupac 2. Kendrick Lamar 3. Wise Intelligent 4. Lauryn Hill 5. DMX Honorable Mention: Method Man, Brother J (from X-Clan) and Lil Wayne Flowists: 1. E-40 2. 50 Cent 3. Busy Bone 4. Twista 5.
