If he thinks he might marry the daughter, he should leave sooner than later.
Nothing for this guy to do. The owners/managers are 50-60 years old and presumably have been in business for decades. No way they're gonna listen to in their minds some snot-nose 21 year old kid who just started 6 months ago, especially based off how he described them. If he values his relationship with his gf he best start looking for a way to gracefully leave the work situation.

he should leave this mess of a company asap, i hope he saves up

Good point but the way you describe him is unnecessary. The thing with Plato “in the cave/dark” situation actually applies to this business. They do need that outside perspective and just so happens he is the one that can give it. They probably won’t listen but only to their detriment.

He should also just work there another six months actually learn the business and people flow and seek a similar position somewhere and head out.
Get a different job dude! There is no scenario in the multiverse where the owners daughters boyfriend comes in and works there for 6 months then gets everyone to change their ways and saves the company. Leave, and say it's because you don't want to mix business with family.

Yes, and he should break up with her as well.
Caller way too young/inexperienced to be put in this situation. He needs to move on. What a mess.
This was never going to work from the beginning. You are in a position to have to deliver bad news about the boss to his face who happens to be your girlfriends dad.
"moved up the chain really fast" said the son in law.... Shocking
Other people said this and I agree: Kid is too young and inexperienced to know that he got put in that position to be a snitch.

He started biological warfare before the Mongols, I believe.. Because the enemy was foolish enough to believe anything free is good. The Canadians proved that in WWI the the hot potato grenade LMAO!!!!
The girlfriend's dad set him up, because he knew he would be a mole 😅 But since he was asked, all he has to do is say the employees don't feel appreciated and aren't impressed with the pay. Not complicated.

Simple answer and call it a day. Hope he reads your comments
"why does this problem keep happening" Sometimes when people ask questions out loud like that, all they will do when given an explanation, is come up with a reason why the explanation is wrong and it's not their fault / something elses fault. They don't actually want to address the problem, they're just complaining that it exists.
Start the talk with the owners, "Don't shoot the messenger........"
Run. Run away from her, daddy, and the cheap business.
What this guy needs to do is find another job. To be serious he needs to get the two owners in the same room and present the issues to them to prevent them from playing him in the middle. If they are not receptive or will not change anything he needs to move on.
Dave- "this is not gonna go well is it?" LOL
Don't walk, run away from this mess, and get a new job.
Time to bail, dude. That's why you need to go out into the world and find your own way without sucking up to a girlfriend's father. Leave and get yourself out of this situation.

You took the opportunity and made the most of it Dustin, nice
The caller spends to much time talking and not enough working. Your PM that means you schedule machinery to be maintained. HR deals with the people part of the business. You are stepping on toes you don’t build anything your there to do up keep.

Good points. And also who is going to respect somebody who not only has barely been at the company half a year but is also 21 years old and barely knows what it means to be an adult?
@cannednolan8194

@@random-nz7dy if he came with a background even at 21 he could be respected. But in that six months he would of had to work his butt off to get it. Everyone would notice his job was getting done.

I guess you missed the part where they asked for his input?
@cannednolan8194

@@matthewnelson4039 the family may be asking about his input. But if his job is maintaining machines he shouldn’t be acting like HR.
Many managers and owners of small companies go for years with bad management strategies, wondering why they can't keep and attract good talent. It's not 1980 any longer when 10 applicants per day showed up.
Guy needs to lean into this and try to solve the problem by speaking truth to power. He'll either be fired and the girlfriend will dump him or he comes out looking like a rock star. Either way the FIL has shown his colors which is good information to have sooner rather than later.

This is a great plan if he isn’t interested in continuing the gf relationship…
It will never work. Knew a guy that did this....when they broke up....obviously that did not work. Why would you think you can marry her, and keep this separate? Is he preventive maintenance, or an auditor? He is being used. What strange wording for him to think he is helping to build a company already built. The owner does not want him with his daughter, and he don't even realize it. Just get another job and resign dude.
NEW JOB ASAP!
I wish this call took place 3 years ago lol kind of a similar situation
He should do what you said with a summary of facts in writing and leave it with them to discuss amongst themselves once they've had some time to review and absorb the information. It should be fact based and not personal. For example, "you pay too little" is "company x pays $6 per hour more per team lead resulting in higher turnover and loss of experienced talent." If the employees complain the owner is abrupt, phrase as "the team would appreciate clearer work direction, ability to ask questions..." He should not compare his hourly wage to the other supervisor that works there. It's not about individual comparisons within the company but local market comparisons. Oh, and they should look to see if they need to hire an HR business consultant to navigate with the company through this. While they may not need a full-time HR staff, business consultants can help them with general HR services, employee relations and compensation and benefits.

He is also going to burn the bridge for leaving. The lessor of two evils, but get out now and don’t have that convo.
Become a slot technician. I make $28 a hour and don't have to deal with anything of this sort.
Dude just get out now. I don't care how capable and bright you are at a young age. At 21 You just don't have enough life experience to expect anybody to take you seriously trying to do the things you're doing. Then you add all this weirdness with the boss's daughter into the mix? Good lord
“Remember when you asked me to figure out what’s going on with the employees?, well, I have some feedback. Any interest in hearing it? (He will of course, say “yes”), well, it is constructive in nature, meaning you probably won’t like it. Are you sure you want to hear it? If he says “yes”, then follow Dave’s advice….
Ya I dunno if he knows the gfs dad for 3 years at this point he should just be able to talk to him about this in private and maybe get some insight/persuade
Dating the daughter of the boss is not going to end well, so either look for another job or stop dating her.
He should break up with her and find a new job and he needs to be completely honest with her on why he's ending the relationship
Good news caller! You're only 21 so you have plenty of time to live your life without this craziness!
New job time bud
Dating the owner’s daughter is the real reason for your success. I’m sorry that I have to be frank about this but it’s not okay to jump into a company at such a young age and constantly get promoted, while other employees have been working there longer and they deserve to have a higher salary than you. Sounds like entitlement and it’s not going to work out well for other employers to see you walk in and know that you’re dating the owner’s daughter. Every single employee will have a problem with you because you are not earning the salary that other people are and it has nothing to do with your work ethic and skills. You are too young to even think you will be the owner in a few years. Why would you even consider working there when you’re already in a personal relationship with the boss’s daughter. Come on now, you are only there because of your relationship status and if that doesn’t work out then you will not even have a job. I would be so upset if I worked at a company for years and then I saw the owner’s daughter’s boyfriend get promoted to a manager in less than six months. You are being so naive in your own life choices. Get a job somewhere else that you don’t get entitled treatment for just being there.
Weird all these guys are in laws with the business or some human drama over relationships
Them old boomers won’t listen to him..
