Steel wool was most likely used to keep the rodents from chewing the wires up. They must’ve known they were going to park it and did it to protect the wiring. From the looks of it, it looks like it worked.

The brillo pads tell me they planned on it sitting for a long period of time because you use steel wool to detor rodents so it was more than likely to keep rodents from eating the wiring
@lloydcc

It was also used to slow corrosion of wires from what I was told when I was much younger. Both means they knew it was going to be sitting.

yeah I was told that too now that you mention it i forgot about that so yeah they definitely knew it was going to be sitting and knew what they were doing and cared about it

Oh Shoot
This Jimmy sounds like a good winter beater. I'm surprised how the interior has kept up for being 24 y/o. A dash without cracks is quite surprising at this point
@Don.Lamaack
Жыл бұрын
Speaking from experience, these are terrible winter vehicles. Wheel base is too small for the weight and handling in the snow. The vortec engine is fantastic and can make 500k with decent maintenance, but at the milage that's on this one it's probably had 5 transmissions already. 4L60E is a POS.

Brillo pads will deter rodents as I recall. They probably planned on it sitting for a long period of time and put those there to protect the engine wiring from rodents.

Yes, and I was going to say it was to keep rodents from harvesting on the harnesses under the hood, and the mileage wouldn't bother my last daily driver was a 86 Chevy k20 on its 4 th motor which I rebuilt it was a 0.30 over 75 Chevy 355 4 bolt main built from a Chevy 010 350 ac factory block.trw hyperutic pistons sealed power piston rings file fit, competition cams xe268h 221/224 degrees duration 477/480 lift cam kit and noisy summit racing brand timing gear set. Truck had 297,77 when I got rid of it needed bodywork because it was beat and dented up it had a pretty solid cab floor needed the starter swapped and the carb rebuilt or slap another one on it, would start right up with starting fluid but didn't want to idle, and starter was weak

Truck I have now I'm not sure what it's mileage was it's either 124, or 174, in 2020 and then in the winter the speedometer quit the tem guage the high beams indicator turn signals, tach and the battery voltage gauge quit working and then the odometer quit and the cluster was changed it's a 2000 dodge ram Laramie slt quad cab long bed 1500 5.2 litre magnum v8 4x4
This Jimmy is cared for! Love it... she deserves a good wash and wax! Tyre shine... everyting!
Had a Black with tan leather '97 Blazer LT. Pretty nice unit, once you get past all the interior gremlins. I have a buddy who has a '05 2 door GMC Jimmy. Last year of this model and he picked it up new when they were clearing them out. It's sitting in his garage today with a 1000 miles on it, seats still wrapped in plastic. He laughs and has no idea why he preserved a 2005 Jimmy. It's pretty neat to see though.
The mileage isn't as important as how a vehicle was maintained and kept up. Just because a vehicle hits 100k, 150k or 200k if kept up they'll generally keep going. You're in the non rust belt area so that helps significantly of how long a vehicle will last too.
Years ago my wife and I had a late 90s Chevy Astro all wheel drive. That was basically the same thing as the GMC jimmy, and the Chevy S 10 blazer. That vehicle had 450,000 miles on it, and round like a top. One of the only GM products I’ve ever owned, that I actually trusted to take cross country. So yes I think you got a good deal on it, when I sold mine I got $1300 for it, and that would’ve been around 2010.

those are tanks. A co-worker still owns a 2002 AWD and he says he'll never sell it. He just put some 30 inch A/T tires on it and took it on a camping trip
Good Lord Randy, I love that Jimmy SLS. it looks and runs really good. it looks like you have a winner there 👍👍
I believe it is the experience that counts. When we go to the movies, we just watch and don't get any tangible goods in return, however the enjoyment is the key. We enjoy your videos and it feels "as if one of your friends is buying or just bought a car and you both test drive it".
The person who owned the vehicle prior knew the GMC was going to be sitting so they put Brillo pads on all the wires to keep the mice from chewing the wires thats old school
I think you got it for a good price. You have a nice winter beater with 4x4 on it. These were everywhere back in the day. They were not the greatest vehicle but they were pretty solid and reasonably reliable. The only real issues they suffered was that the oil filter lines would leak but they were easy enough to replace when on a lift. I always loved the "oh Crap" grab bar on the dash. That Jimmy will make somebody a solid car at the auction
Thanks to those Brillo pads those wires are still intact. Rodents do not like chewing through steel wool.
I am so loving your videos, but, I can't wait to see more of what you do with that little tan Honda! I absolutely love it! ❤️ Whoever gets that will be so lucky! ❤️ I don't have the money for it, but, I just know someone is going to absolutely love it as much as I do! ❤️
Amazing videos randy can't wait to see the mower and more cars doing great work 👏 🙌
On those older cars I would be inspecting All the frames for being rusted out and all the rubber mounts. Especially if they have been expose to a winter salt or salt brine.
That's a keeper. These trucks are very reliable when they're maintained. Comfortable too
I wondered how you were buying all these cars. I didn't even think about you getting a floorplan account, but that's a great idea for you! Stepping up to the next level!
Nice video, What is the reason that charity donated cars are sold only to dealers in auto auctions ?
Randy, My dad used to have one of thise when they came out brand new I love them, confortable, with lots of power and extrimely low manteinance, I would love to buy it from you to gift it to my father, I am in Venezuela so no can do, thank you for bringing good memories to me.
There's a military base sticker on the windshield, above the rearview mirror.. my guess is that it was owned by someone older in the military who drove it around a lot, probably cross country, and also serviced it, unlike most people lol, and then they taped brillo pads to the wires to keep them from being eaten up by rodents while it sat while they were away, possibly on a deployment.. maybe it got damaged while they were away, or maybe they didn't return and it was sent to auction by the family..
thanks for the great content, have a great day.
Someone cared for this Jimmy very good video randy nice buy 👍
The ABS light is sometimes from the ABS brake modulator. It's where all the brake lines go into in the engine compartment. I replaced mine with a remanufactured one and it fixed the problem. It cost me about $70.
Randy - If your not familiar with these vehicles there is a smallish list of common issues with these 1. These are notorious for the fuel sending units going bad and the gauge will read all over the place. 2. The 4x4 is vacuum actuated and that likes to blow out pretty often but is easy to replace, just pull the battery tray and there is 2 bolts in the fender well that hold it in place. 3. 4L60E transmission I would assume you are somewhat familiar with, terrible transmission that loves to blow it's sun shell into pieces Good news is though that 4.3 vortec will run forever if it's been taken care of.
Love this vehicle Randy, another great score, love it
This truck honestly is a really good example, I was genuinely expecting the 4WD system not to work since it’s a Vaccum 4WD which almost ALWAYS have rotted out vaccum lines and it’s basically stuck in 2WD. This truck is an absolute steal, if those lines aren’t dry-rotted then that’s great. But if they’re starting to feel stiff or starting to feel brittle then replace them ASAP. But that thing is still a solid vehicle. Whoever the owners were clearly took care of it and wanted it to last.
Roxie wants to go with and check out the Jimmy too. LOL
I just got my 99 doge ram wheel chair van back from the dealership the water pump was leaking 900 bucks but it's fixed no problems 64 thousand miles now 55 when I got it it's been a good van no problems with the Jimmy I figured something would be good video
Cruise control doesn't work probably because ABS light is on.
Amazing video randy,I think the jimmy still has some good potential and a lot of life still left, the perfect car for a person, have a danm good day randy.
What a deal! Great little truck
You can break the 4x4 unit by switching at that speed without stopping, the abs light might be a sensor, the 4l60e transmission is good unit but needs service, check tire jack in back side, the trunk cover always rattle
Billo pads are To keep the mice and rodents from the engine and wiring
Guy from Mexico came and picked up the silver Impala you've been keeping for year or more ?
Those 4.3 vortec v6 are great and powerful engines. The gmc jimmys are nice well built trucks

Other than poor fuel economy, those Jimmy, Envoy, Blazers, and Bravadas were decent trucks. I’m sure they’re more reliable than all the newer Chevys and GMC products they make today.
Brillo pads are there for mice/rodents
Hey randy. I used jb wield to stop an oil pan leak it was [on it for 3 years when I sold it but wasn't leaking no more it really works but you can do it just to see if it's runs good great job
That Jimmy is one of the cleanest of that year I've seen in awhile, honestly I like that 4.3l vortec v6 a friend had that engine in his S10 and it lasted 471.236 miles before she got weazy and died so from what I've seen they last if taken care of. I'd drive it mileage doesn't matter to me of course I'm an A.S.E. certified mechanic so if things break I can fix them . Definitely a good buy in my opinion.
Had a 97 blazer, sold at 267k miles. Worst thing was trying to swap the starter, it was a good vehicle.
Let Roxy ride with you !
We have done that to race cars that would set all winter. Rodents don’t like Brillo pads. It protects the wires. We also but in air box. Always kept them out
Yeah fellows, people use to use steel wool to plug holes in house to keep rats out, probably still do. Guess owner's of this Jimmy thought it would work on Wiring harness.
ABS goes off when you put it in 4 low.
Randy the brilo pads are so rodents don't try to eat the wires they feel horible in the mouth
Brillo pads will kill mice dead.
Wow I was not expecting this thing to even be able to run. Someone really took good care of it.
Looks amazing From my end . Someone really took care of it Randy. I bought a 96 S 10 & 98 blazer new. You shouldn't have a problem selling it. Salute 🤘😎

Brillo pads never heard of that that’s strange!! Roxy such a cute pup! The jimmy might be a diamond in the rough. Just thinking the pads where there maybe too prevent the wires from getting chewed?
I must say, that GMC Jimmy/Chevy Blazer looks like it was REALLY well taken care of over the last 25 years. Someone must’ve taken pride in all the maintenance that went into it. I’m very surprised that it still runs and drives really well and with very little problems, considering the high mileage it has on it. Other than that, most of these trucks have ALL been destroyed over the years and are long gone at this point. Nonetheless, nice find! I hope it goes to a good home. 👍🏻🏠
To keep the nice out so they don't eat the wires
Can we see more Chevy Silverados and GMC Sierras on your copart walk arounds?

Hello Randy! That's a nice and solid car 👌💪 a wish It was here in Portugal... and I would bye from you! 🤩👌😁 Cheers from Portugal ✌️😎
The 1998 GMC Jimmy is a excellent buy.
The Brillo pad prevent the wiring harness from being chewed on which is very smart when you are going to park a car
Good Ideal to tape the Brillo to keep the rats from eating the wires
Someone took *AMAZING* care of that Jimmy!! I bought my mom her 96 Blazer at my local auction for 1k with 120k miles she loves it!
Hey my friend if it makes you happy it must make us happy because we're watching it. Take care my friend.
@4:22 You can tape Brillo Pads like that to repel pests chewing the wires or hoses. you can see where some of the Brillo Pads were bitten by mice at one point. Whoever owned this thing loved it and took care of it man. This one should be a winner so far. Just remove them before travel.
I used to have a jimmy just like that and I'd try to buy the Jimmy from you if I lived closer but I'm in Alabama. My Jimmy was identical to this one. Same year make and model even color.
Keep the jimmy. It would work great for small trails and fit in parking spaces very easily. It is just a beautiful masterpiece in my eyes.
The brillo pads are for rats not to eat the wires because they don't like those
Looks like a great Truck you have
Mouse deterring Brillo pad
These vehicles are bulletproof and diehards with the 4.3 v6. I've seen them here in Michigan with over 400k. Nice buy for $925! imo they did "Age" a bit... but not in a bad way. still a very affordable low budget piece right here!
I wish i could have this!!! i would change the trans fluid, coolant, check everything else and change as needed, Id keep racking the miles up gladly.
Score man and great bike😎👌
As some have said, the Brillo (or steel wool) keeps the rodents from chewing the wiring. Apparently they don't like a mouth full of Brillo 🤣.
Blazers were notorious for ABS issues. I've replaces the ABS module twice in my 01 Blazer. And they love to blow break lines.

My blazer has 265k and no abs light. Never had brake lines failure. I live in San Diego tho lol
Some of the prices I've seen lately in Cincinnati, you could shoot for at least $8k on that Jimmy 🤣🤣
Nice looking Jimmy. My father had a 2001 one in white.
They did that to keep the mice off the wires.
i’m looking forward to seeing the maxima come back to life!! i think you should clean up the model T and maybe rent it out for weddings or events!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🥰
Sos/brillo pads around wiring is to deter mice from sitting on the engine or ecu and eating the wires where they make connections.
Some people say SOS pads will stop mice/rats from chewing on things.
I be looking forward to these test drives, just to see if they make it….lol
My first car was one of these in dark blue, and even tho it was a rust bucket, just about everything worked. The engine had some serious issues, probably a clogged cat if not something worse, but it was a trooper. Took a deer to the front end and drove away needing just new headlights and a grille lol. My dad got it for me for about $1k.
Camaro is very much saute after by collector's ! Very rare Randy .
Man that Jimmy would be a great hunting vehicle. 4x4 and all! Shoot great deal for someone.
dude, I know you were just watching Flying Wheels and his custom 2002 Escalade with roof removed. I think you should do a series on something similar. That should bring in a lot of views,
I always come for the ladies and gintamin😂 nah seriously randy you make some good and funny videos. You may have a lot of older viewers but 16 year olds like you too!
I found a 1995 Lincoln Towncar "Spinnaker" edition at IAA. Never even knew that existed. May be worth a look Randy
I drive a 2000 bravada daily, 274k miles, and really has been a great truck. Decent fuel mileage, truck ground clearance......

@@samholdsworth420 sorry about your luck, should have specified good mileage for a truck. I can get 21 when I do the speed limit on the highway, but I drive like somebodys grandpa I guess. But when a new hemi dodge ram 4 door only gets 10-12, Z71 Silverado with big rims and 5.3 gets 10.....it's not Hyundai fuel mileage but blazers/jimmy/ bravada on par with a v6 4x4 Toyota truck.
I'm looking forward to seeing the riding mower
to save the wire harness from the squirrel and rat I wish you all the best randy love your videos
Vary awesome indeed. I love the jimmy. Sweet. Keep up the great work. Okay.
i have a 2000 bravada 4.3 with 103,000 miles on it so clean you cant even tell its 23 years old
On my vehicle if there is any light on the dash cruise control won't work.
Jimmy is a great vehicle and the 4.3 is a great engine.
Like others have just said. Steel Wool is one things that rodents do not like to eat. I use it to plug a few holes where field mice used to get in the house. They never got in again.
Are you ever planning to make it we’re you can sell straight to the public ? I was really curious cause you get some really cool stuff think would be awesome, buddy love the videos and cars
I think that was most definitely all highway miles and maybe a few town miles that car/truck is mint
That will make a good little SUV for someone
shes a great rig randy!!
Hello Randy. The 1998 GMC Jimmy is a good SUV. I believe that you'll get a good price for it.
