I bought my nephew a 1984 Chevy citation for his first car in 2006. I told him he will thank me in 10 years. I said just think of all the child support I just saved you. He looked at me funny..I said no girl will be cought riding in this car let alone having sex in the backseat. I named the car birth control. 😂

I would drive the crap outta that Cougar... Maybe do a rust repair and paint it a nicer shade of blue, but that's an awesome car for the money
The Cougar is built on the Fox Body platform so there is a world of aftermarket go fast parts for Mustang that you can used on the Cougar.
Before adjusting the idle, don’t forget about the vacuum leak you found.

Those auction fees are ridiculous. What’s a $49 ‘internet fee’??? $150 car is $500 OTD! They definitely took a lesson from how utilities bill ya. I always say what if you saw a BigMac was $2 on the menu, but after a bun fee, pickle distribution tax, and hot item convenience fee it rang up for $5. Would we accept that?

This one deserves a full detailing. That vacuum line is definitely the first place to start with the high idle issue. Those skull emblems gots to go!! LOL That black truck looks like it was someone’s baby! Can’t say you paid too much for it. As it would cost double that to build another one! Curious to see what’s going on under the hood!

Agree, delete the Cult skull emblems lol
Back in 83 when this generation came out I bought a brand new Tutone gray and black XR7 cougar with the 5 L V8 love that car fully loaded put 150,000 miles on it before I sold it you got a great purchase especially at that price
You got a bargain. Do a deep clean of the interior, fix the little shit, maybe a Maaco paint job and trim piece, remove that stupid skull n crossbones emblem. I like these older finds better than late models; keep em coming.
I remember when i was a freshmen in high school. I remember when these were brand new, i cant believe its been 40 years. Anyway my Science teacher had a dark blue one just like this. I remember thinking it was so modern, the shape, the way the doors closed flush with the roof, etc. It was actually very future looking compared to the boxier designs that everyone else had. It was the beginning of the aerodynamic look for Ford. I regularly see atleast 2 of these still on the road. That baby blue was a color that Ford had on alot of thier vehicles.
Give this car to the rock throwing guy. Its nice enough to be a decent gift and the best thing it will keep him puzzled.

Absolutely love this video. I always thought those Cougars and T'birds were cool AF. That would make a cool car for Nick. My first car was a 72 Bonneville. Total heap, but I loved it.
Bro that is a nice car for nick. Patch the rust, tint the windows, put some mustang rims on it, paint it black, throw in a dual exhaust and mustang parts and that's a super cool sleeper car. 💪🏿💪🏿💯🔥❤️
I've have to give you and Jessica credit. Nick is growing up to be a great guy .

Wow, what a cool car! Blows my mind it was only $150.
Great video, great car. For the price, you should give it a great cleaning and a little restoration and as a first car for Nick with nice rims, a nice exhaust, it might not be bad!!!
I had 86 cougar with 3.8.I remember that ride was very smooth. It's amazing how much longer old cars last comparing to new ones.

This one looks like it has the 5.0l that was also used in the Crown Victoria of that year as well. With only 123k on it still can go another 150k 😊
When that car debuted back in 82, they were so classy and admired. Such a big change from the boxy cars prior
I had one of those as my first car. 83 with the V8. The EFI is unique, it's Ford's EEC-III system. Mine ended up getting converted to a carburetor and MSD ignition and it ran better than the fuel injection ever did. Blast from the past!
Wow! My first car, brand new, 1983 Ford Thunderbird baby blue. I was 16yrs old. Thanks Mom for that present. That cougar brought back some memories.
Can't wait for more videos on this Cougar! Wow what a deal Randy especially for this kind of money plus it runs! This car deserves a serious detail and once you get keys it will be even better. I will love watching these videos! Nice buy Randy!👍
150 that's a deal! And it runs like a top!
Now Ive got that one song with the line "Baby bluuueee... was the color of her eyes..." stuck in my head. That Cougar is one sweet deal *and* ride.
I like the colour. The Mercury truck was that colour and so is my Buick. Didn't think buys like this still exist. It's a very nice car. It's a car that I wouldn't be ashamed to drive to work.
if you are new here trust me Randy does this all the time bringing back old forgotten cars that nobody would even look at or give a try i’ve watched him on many occasions do this magic and it’s great .
If you can get the key lock out of the door and take it to a locksmith they should be able to make a key for that door lock that should also work on the trunk lock.
@mtrgv
7 ай бұрын
The trunk key is a round head key, the door key is the same as the ignition key. Ford switched to a single key in 2001 or 2002 I think.
Would love to have that cougar. Brings back memories. I had a 85 . Love those cars. I would cruise it everywhere here in NC. Keep bringing those old cars back.
This is a wonderful experience you're teaching your son. This car when it's fixed up will be a good and reliable transportation option for him.❤❤
That’s actually a really nice car. It seems to run great! I always loved that body style. I’d detail her up, do some minor body work with some matching paint, throw sone nicer looking wheels on her, and rock her as a summer ride. The 5.0 and fuel injection is rare. Once again Randy, you bought another nostalgic car! Sweet find .
Awesome video Randy! Hey! I'd rock that car! Once you get the new ignition tumbler and door/trunk keys, maybe a little clean up on it, it will be good to go! I love it!
What a sweet car. I'd get the locks fixed, a nice detail inside and a polish outside, and you got yourself a good looking car
I had a '84 Cougar with a 5.0. Think of it as having Port Fuel injection. I put almost 600k miles on it driving from Central TX to South TX. It was bullet proof and had was a great road trip car.
@houseofno
7 ай бұрын
This isn't port fuel injection. That won't come for a few more years. This is the CFI or TBI throttlebody injection. He already inspected under the air cleaner and found a throttle body injection with two injectors.

You got luckier with 1984's than I did. I replaced the dimmer switch 6 times on an 84 Cougar and an 84 mustang all in the same 3 year period in 95 to 98. My ex had the Cougar. High beams would flicker and then it would move to the low beams. Both cars had something getting hot. Nobody had been under the hood of either one. Both had the same 3.8L V6 driveline. Ford simply said they didn't trouble shoot they simply change parts.
Nice one! I'd like to see it cleaned up and find out what's in the trunk -- might be treasure! haha

This car is awesome in my opinion. This might sound funny but my favorite car that I have ever owned was a Mercury cougar 2000. This car in video when I was a kid is the reason why I bought the 2000 after college. :) have a great day Randy and viewers.
19:16, That’s not a Square Body that’s an OBS, 10k sounds right those trucks are worth a lot of money, in some cases, sometimes if not more. Definitely a blast from the past, the colour is definitely something you don’t see anymore since so many modern cars are plain and boring, unless they have a rap. The skull and crossbones, above the electronic fuel injection is interesting. Good thing we don’t have smell a vision, but despite that the interior doesn’t look that bad, for a 40+ year old car. It’s good that Nick is learning. The fuel line repair, nothing wrong with that, as long as you don’t repair brake lines like that. Now this car could be a cool sleeper, keep it looking stock, but all engine under the hood. We had an 87 Caravan same colour back in the 90s.
Amazon for the complete lock-set Randy. My friend bought the complete set for under $ 80 even the glove -box was included. 🎬🔥🚘 🤘. Nice score Randy👍😎
I would get keys made, detail it , fix the exhaust, and a cheap maaco paint and sell it for $2500
I had the 1983 Thunderbird in that exact color. I miss that car. The only vehicle that I truly regret selling.
You should examine the bottom side of the car to see what else the fork lift damaged beside the fuel line.
@mtrgv
7 ай бұрын
Yes, exactly, those Yard drivers, driving the fork lifts don't give a xxxx what they damage. All they are told to do is lift it and move it.
$10k for that black Chevy is a very very good deal if it's as clean as it looks on video. The value of those square body / obs trucks have shot through the roof!!!!
I have a 1984 Cougar that I purchased new and just started bringing it back to life. I was so happy to see your video this morning. I can’t wait to see what you have in store!
Randy I am completely jealous!! I had a 83 Ford Thunderbird with the exact engine but I always wanted the cougar cause the flat rear window. $150 well $500 out the door with the little issues it had.. Im just without words jealous!! Wish I could come from NC to OK to just see and ride in my dream car!!! Watched vid 5 times already
These cars were everywhere back then. I was a sophomore in high school when this one was new. Hardly see them today. Great score!

Randy, Awesome video!! Kudos to you and Jessica on raising Nick, he’s a great kid. You should get that wrecked mustang from the other video and drop the engine in the Cougar, because it’s built on the fox body platform the possibilities are endless. I had an 85 T-Bird and I loved it
i would so rock that car, i do prefer the 1988 generation interior, but these were my favorite cars back in those days! my dad drove an 88 as a demo back then when he sold cars for a short time in the late 80's. i would pay %500 for that car with no regrets, for sure! you should make a buck or 2 after fixing the small things it needs and get it cleaned up!
I remember years ago drawing one of those Cougars with huge drag tires in the back and lowered front suspension. It’s somewhere in my huge mess of papers.
My friend's dad had this generation with the 5.0 and ground effects. Maybe 86 87? But it definitely was his generation he would take us to the mall in it.. still love this car today
That's a perfect first car for your son, Nick. From what other commenters are saying, that high idle is due to that vacuum leak. Plug it and see if the idle slows down. Since this car is a fox body platform, Mustang performance parts for 79 through 93 will fit on this car. It'll sound awesome with American Racing shorty headers, Flowmaster H pipe true dual exhaust, and Flowmaster Super 40 mufflers. That's the exhaust set up I have on my 85 Mustang GT
I have a feeling that may be my original car from when I was 16 years old. Same color, same year, and same interior. It was a great car ran fantastic. My grandmother gave it to me when I got my license.
I’ve owned 2 different 80’s cougars with that 5.0 and loved them both. Beautiful cars that just float down the road. Miss those cars
Thats a hell of a nice car for $150! Love those old fox body Cougars! Ford had some quality control issues in this car's time, especially with electrical stuff, but these 302 fox body cars are solidly built underappreciated cars. Basically a nicer Mustang. I'd love to own this car.

Wow Randy what a deal for 150!! A little clean up and she’ll be good. Well bummer hope you can fix the leak. Good car for Nick.
Awesome score on the Cougar, you should detail it and change the fluids, filters and plugs. The step side truck is a great deal at 10k…would be sweet with an LS between the fenders. Any Ford dealer should be able to cut keys if you go in with the Title and VIN. Check the vacuum lines on the Cougar before you touch the idle.
Love this car, my grandma had one just like it for decades.

Get yourself 3 bottle of the Techron high mileage fuel treatment. Fill the tank halfway and use one full can, once the tank reaches close to empty repeat with the other 2 bottles. The Techron should be able to clean the throttle body injector(s) and she'll idle/run better. There are rebuild kits for the Ford/Holley? throttle body injection. It's a good car, it just needs the typical been sitting for years maintenance and service.

That is what i was thinking as well. Get some cleaner through it and flush the old coolant out and replace with new coolant. Also should be a fuel filter in line somewhere along the frame rail that also should be changed out 😊
I had an 83 Thunderbird same color in high school (1998)... POS but I liked the style and wish I could cruise in one again, of course until it inevitably broke down... 5 liter and I cut the exhaust off cause cats were clogged... I still love the sound!
LOVE The car Randy, Favorite color too! light blues are becoming difficult to find anymore because they Faded to quickly and then the interior plastics turned to dust with the crappy 80s Materials they used. I would totally rock that.
just wanted to stop by & let you know I enjoy your videos... wow Nick growing up on you sir. have a bless day
Nick doesn't know it yet but today was his first day on learning how to be a Master Mechanic👍
I had a carbureted 83 Cougar that had a V-6 that I converted to a V-8 and I loved it and wish I still had it. It was totalled out when someone ran a red light.
You know a car smells bad when you take a sniff and you yell "my eyes, my eyes!" Randy: "This car's got power!" It's got power alright. It's from that powerful smell. Would you believe that the 1987-1988 Thunderbird/Cougar were completely overhauled except for the roof and front windshield? Seriously. Even the rub strips are different between the 1983 to 1986 cars and the 1987 to 1988 cars (different styles and different heights on the cars). Body panels will physically interchange but the rub strip locations will not. The 1984 to 1992 Mark VII, while based on the same cars, didn't get nearly as revolutionary an external change throughout that car's production run. The interior for the 1987 to 1988 cars remained similar to the 1985 interior overhaul. All three car models were built at Ford's Lorain, Ohio plant.
Brings back a lot of memories. My dad had a 1984 Cougar. I remember the day he brought him home from the dealer with the plastic still over the seats. White with tan interior.
You can get into the trunk by removing the rear seat,,, Should be easy to convert the ac to 145a,,, Too bad about the rust but otherwise a nice car,, It will probably shine up real nice, I bet it gets about 30 mpg on the hwy. My uncle used to have a T-Bird of about this same year, with the same engine,, He consistently got 30mpg on the hwy,,, :-)
I'm actually excited about this car, you don't see them on the road anymore 🤘🏽🔥
These are the kinds of videos we love!!!
I remember when I was Nicks age, I only wanted that nice new vehicle. I had to settle on a 1971 Ford LTD 2 door hardtop with 400 small block and C6 trans. One day I was driving down the road and a guy pulled right out in front of me, the accident caused frame damage and totaled the LTD. I walked away with no cuts or bruises. I would have been severly hurt or maimed if I was in that beautiful new vehicle, especially a fox body Mustang. Nick might hate the car now but he would be devasted if he totaled that fancy fox body Mustang, instead of this Cougar. Nick here is a little secret the girls will like you regardless of what you drive, if they only care about what you drive, then they belong to the streets.

Hey Randy, I think you better pack your bags and head for Las Vegas! At $150 you must be off on a lucky streak! That blue color is one of a bout three color choices you had in the early 1950s. I think it would be great to see you take it to macco and the auto spa! Once again, kudos to the best automotive channel on KZread!!
You could do a lot of videos on this, and I hope they do well.
Id keep this one and restore it! This style Cougar/ Thunderbird started the modern styling Ford would use on everything afterwards with the Taurus, Tempo, Probe, Ranger, Explorer, Windstar ect. These were very modern for 1983. And this one is a first model year with the V8 yet! Fix the little bit of rust issues repaint it and detail it and the interior as well itll be a sweet collector for sure
2:28 Never seen a curiosity sniff filmed in real time before... "this smells foul. omg thats terrible... I have to transfer this pain to as many guys nearby as possible!!"
