I know it probably doesn't make financial sense, but I'd love to see more of this truck. Growing up, my dad bought an absolute beater 86 F150 while our family was going through some seriously hard times. These honest old Ford pickups who've seen some things really deserve love, not just the pretty pristine ones.

There is no such thing as financial sense - that's something every single lazy person utters because they can't turn a wrench and get things fixed.
Out of all the rebuilds you've done, for some reason, I'm extremely partial to this! I have never been called normal, but if I saw this truck at a car show next to a Corvette, McClaren, Porsche, or any other exotic/super/sports car, my attention would be on this F150. Fix this beast up!
The coolant temp sensor not online will make it idle high and run rich. Computer defaults to -40 degrees air and fuel mixture. Replace it ASAP as it warms up it will continue to run worse.
Man - you are a legit shade tree mechanic - really fun to watch your trouble shooting on these machines that have been used and abused.
Despite the miles with overall how clean that truck is it would bring $3,500-$4,500 in my area. I think you did good. 👍

You'd better check that radiator! If you are losing trans fluid with no external leakage, the internal trans cooler in the radiator may have split. That MAY explain that nastiness you saw when you pulled the radiator cap.

Nice work Randy. I hope you are able to fix the problem and make a few bucks on it. Proves you can take a non runner and get it to run and drive.
Did you try switching to the 2nd tank ? I think its a nice truck. And i think you can repair that ignition switch, as long as they didnt do too much damage around where it goes in.
That's a sweet truck Randy. It was someone's pride & joy at one time. Until some P.O.S busted the column. I think you did good on the deal, Parts are easy to find. I'm from Ohio's rust belt district lol. You don't see trucks like that here . Nice score IMO Randy. Salute 🎬🔥👍

Budget for a replacement radiator with internal transmission cooler…. Thinking that there’s an internal leak.
Great video, and in my opinion you got a sweet deal,I mean,it could have been much worse, being stolen,it could have had a blown motor and extensive body damage. So that's why I think you got a sweet deal Stay safe and keep em coming.😀
You can get just ignition switch. Only if the column was messed up then you'd have to get column.

These old Ford trucks are great. This one with no rust needs to be put back in service. The body is worth the money spent, the main enemy of these trucks is rust. Give it a few more years and the price of these is gonna shoot through the roof, like the bullnose Fords are beginning to do now.
i was guessing this to be a 4.9L 300 straight 6
Hello Randy, that is a great looking old Ford. I believe it is worth a little investment. There are a lot of Ford truck fans I believe would make it a profitable endeavor. If I had the spare cash I would be after the Couger and this truck and I'm primarily a Chevy man. Anyhow my thanks to you and whomever does your Facebook page and expressed condolences for my cat Tina who died being spayed. Ya'll take care and be safe.
That cougar looks so badass
What a beautiful sounding truck, epic engine and it has proper power. You gotta love the engine. Impressive work on getting the truck running again with proper diagnosing. I am loving these videos more. Thumbs up 👍
I really like the truck. And to watch you get it running was really cool. I get very frustrated with the electrodigicals. You make it look easy. Another awesome video. 👌
Love the ole F150 Randy I had a 1994 I called ole bufford she was a great truck til an idiot in a semi decided to turn right in a straight only lane and took out the driver's side of it with my wife and I going down the road. Miss that ole truck!
Randy you are awesome, I love it when you bring these old cars back to life
As a ford Mechanic, the Oil pressure sensors in them are fake, They are pretty much just a sensor that tells you if it has oil or not, and its not even accurate if the sensor is old and dirty. Ford did that from the late 80s to around 2015, and them 2008 and newer Econoline vans, you don't need oil in the system for the gauge to even work, them vans they are just in one position all the time when they run. You can see the gauge doesn't move at all with any sort of throttle response, but does respond quite a lot with a scan tool if the tool can read oil pressure from the computer.
In today's market, I'd guess it's about a $2,500 truck once its mechanically sound. Probably around $1,500 as it sits.
Hi Randy I watch your videos every time my new one comes up I'm a big fan of watching your your videos I love all the the vehicles that you do the walkarounds of the auctions and the videos you show of all the cars that you have gotten now on this immaculate Ford F-150 that you got replacing that ignition switch is easy all you got to do is take the plastic trim around the column off and take your screwdriver turn it forward to release the lock pin on it and be able to pull that whole cylinder out and put a new one in with new keys I've done many of them in the past of vehicles that I've done especially my 97 Ford expedition so good luck and keep the videos coming I love watching the videos
When you were trying to start it, the engine sounded like it had really good balanced compression, are you sure that is the original engine and transmission, perhaps it was changed out. Sounds really good.
Great video! Nice that you got it started with some troubleshooting! That'll sure be a good runner once you fix that blasted ding ding ding haha! Nice to see you wrenching WITHOUT getting runover with this one.
Nice looking f-150. Looks like a great candidate for an engine swap. No idea if they are easy to do on those old ford's though. The body is just too nice not to revive it though.
Hell yeah, Randy! You were on-point with that diagnostic!
Truthfully I believe you got a very good deal on it. Because where I live at to see that kind of truck with that motor with that kind of miles in that good of shape is unheard of.
Have to agree, i am currently driving a single cab "truck", bakkie here in SA. No complaints from me, lot of load space and comfy as well.
Definitely a gem. Fix that ignition and the coil, fix the leaks in the trans if there is any major leaks and where ever it’s leaking motor oil if it is leaking. Bet your money you could get back your money on that truck Randy! Very nice little truck. Lots of people love going after those square body fords! 😊
I had a 93 Super Cab with a 5.8. Great truck! I drove it for years. I sold it to my neighbor at 270,000 miles. His Dad drove it for a couple of more years, then a friend of his who lives in Mexico had his truck break down. He gave the truck to him. Last I heard it still runs. Hard to kill those old Ford trucks.

Big ford guy here love them old obs fords I had a 95 4x4 regular cab inline6 almost put 800.000km on it sold it for 3500 few years back 1 tough truck wish I could find it to by it back I bought it brand new with 17km on it I miss that old truck lots of good memories in it👍👍👍👍
Scotty Kilmer had a video of a '96 F250 with transmission issues. He replaced a quart of trans fluid with Lucas Stops Slip and it seemed to fix it, probably worth a try at least.
Good potential, with a little tlc, to make a good useable truck. I have bought, repaired, and sold vehicles for a little over 50 years. An ignition lock cylinder replacement real simple, much easier than changing steering column. Most any Ford product from 1970s to early 2000s will interchange. Rough idle due to ECM relearning idle, will improve more with driving. Congrats on your KZread success. Keep the shiny side up and the greasy side down.
i think you absolutely brought a keeper! it has the 351 instead of the 302 it's 99% rust free! its a great base for restoration, if i was in America id be asking to come inspect it then id most likely be more then happy to pay you what you've put into it before driving off with a big smile!
Fantastic job Randy my man ! I LOVE this stuff ! 😀👍🏾
To be honest I quit watching your video's when you started buying all the fancy toys every other week, But I've recently found you doing these rent a wreck trucks and I'm enjoying these video's. I've had an 89, and 94 f150 with high miles on they didn't look much but they ran far longer than anything way newer from Ford with less problems. My current trucks a high mileage 99 7.3 F250 its the same nothing to look at but I wouldn't be afraid to drive a 1000 KM in it right now. Thanks for the video's take care.
Really appreciate what you're going... I watched daily... All the way from calabar in Nigeria... Thumps up my man
I wouldn't worry about the distributor pickup coil until it reproduces the problem. Both the ECM and the pickup coil are much less likely to be problems on these old trucks than other issues with old wiring and sensors. I had a "no spark" condition on my 93 F150, and upon careful inspection and checking with the voltmeter, I found that the 2-wire connector that plugs into the coil had a crack on the inside, and the wire wasn't making a good connection. Replaced the connector, and it was good to go. I didn't expect the truck to run great right after the temp sensor replacement. It takes a couple drive cycles for the computer to adjust to the new numbers it's getting. So you have to drive it a couple times, as you did. I think you got a pretty good deal. Those trucks are easy to work on, and if the transmission holds up, it would be hard to replace it for under 2k. That engine can do alot more miles as long as you have good oil pressure. Thoroughly enjoyed the video!
Yup I recognized the temp sensor when you picked it up because I bought a 1996 Ford F-150 and it was abandoned so I got it run and it had a cooling problem so I have the temp sensor unplugged and it’s been doing great tbh runs strong and drives great
On the ignition, I think if you take off the plastic you can find it can be removed and replaced. Last f150 I had that had the same problem, I replaced the distributor and it fixed it. Also remember you have two gas tanks. Hit the switch and see if the other tank has gas. The front tank is smaller than the rear if I remember correctly.

Just stumbled upon the channel yesterday. Watched the f350 videos. Glad i stumbled and found your channel! This truck is a beaut!
I like these older 94 to 95 Ford f150 trucks my grandparents had one for a while this would be a nother good give away for halling things for having 292 thousand miles I'm sure it would drive a hour just fine I watched the video on the Honda u gave away to the people who picked it up it made it home no problem good video
For a truck that has damn near 300k miles on it, she's not half bad.
I think this F150 deserves some additional love. I would enjoy seeing additional videos on this truck.
Nice truck. Auction buys are always very risky business today since there is so hi-tech expensive stuff to replace. When these new vehicles run good, they are fun to drive. Randy, keep the videos coming! That truck to me would be worth fixing with the body in great shape for its age.
I wish i was an american resident. I love the channel. ❤️

TRUCK 2024! Make old trucks great again!
This is the kind of videos that made me fall in love with your channel.
I paid $1000 for the same truck (F250) 4 years ago with 385K on it. The odometer will not go to a 4, it will just stay at 3, but it did roll over to all zeros. 443K as of today. Some of the best built and great looking trucks ever produced. The 351 Windsor can run and preform forever. You have a really good truck. start at $3k if you're going to sell it.
Love the Cougar. Had a few like that one in my early 20's. Used to build them up with Mustang parts. Had one that I swapped a Gen 1 Lightning engine into using a 1993 mustang GT computer and 1995 Cobra R Tremec Transmission (it was that color scheme also). Awesome sleeper and everything goes right in like factory. SN95 suspension brakes and axles also fit perfectly (they are the same size, fox mustangs are slightly shorter and narrower).
I would think It just needed to reset the timing and when you disconnected the jumper It reset and now It will be fine. I also think you made A good purchase as those trucks last A long while and sound great. The bad oil pressure gauge most likely Is A bad sensor on the block and that may be what the check engine light Is coming on and off for. Nice video and love the content man Keep It coming.
99% sure you have a failing pickup coil. It should cost you around $30 for an aftermarket replacement. Changing it requires removal of the distributor. Once out, pop out the pins holding the gear drive & bushing and remove the shaft from the housing. You will then have access to it.
Very nice truck Randy l think it's worth investing in. Great Job👍
Ignition cylinders on these trucks are VERY simple to replace and you can get an ignition cylinder for ~$20 from O’Reilly or Autozone I believe. Definitely worth replacing. I’d really like to see more on this truck!
You don't need a new steering column. Just a new lock. Get a replacement lock from 1A Auto or ebay or Amazon. Then locate the lock pin under the column (it is in a hole in the underside of the shroud next to the ignition). Take your screw driver and turn the ignition on to run. Push pin in and pull the lock out. Now because the lock part with the part the you turn is gone, you will have to shove something into the rest of the lock in order to pull it put. Once you remove the rest of the lock then you can place the new lock assembly in (Make sure the new lock is turned to the on position). Once it is in then you are good to go. Pretty much a 5 or 10 min job. You don't even need to remove the shroud to replace it. I think you should put some money into this truck. You don't see many of this era F150 in such good shape. I think you underpaid as a truck like that in the MD/VA/DC/PA is a $2500 or $3000 truck all day.
I am surprised you know soo much about these complex ignition diagnosis. Very technical stuff for me, good for my learning.
This can be a great work truck to someone,i would work with that truck no problem,if haves that mileage someone took some care. I would fix the best i could and work with that beauty,i see potencial ! Great video like always mate.
Not a bad work truck for 25 year's those 88-97 F150s are awesome easy to work good pick Randy fix the ignition with key u already fix sensors problem wasn't expecting 300,00 miles meaning she's work horse but well maintained .
I had a 1996 F-150 XL with the 5.0. Duel gas tanks, great truck. Only thing I ever did t o it was put flowmasters on it, I was much younger and liked pissing off the neighbors. I would say fix the ignition and move it down the road. That old girl still has some life in her
i really enjoy you explain ,part by part chasing , with explanation why ,in that series
Randy, dude you're an amazing mechanic and friend!
Check for throttle body leaking vacuum. Also noticed the cruise deactivation switch unplugged at the master cylinder and replacing key and tumbler should be easy. If there is a broken piece in the hole, and you can get that out, installing a key and tumbler will be a breeze. I bet the clock spring is bad causing air bag light. I worked on many of these. I think you got a decent deal.
It’s like my truck. Except I got a rust free gem in the rust belt that I rebuilt after it was wrecked with good mileage and the thing has the functioning dual fuel tanks
Damn Randy was struggling back to the crib 🤣🤣 the truck gods were with you that day.. all these haters wouldn't have gotten that truck running so they can f off with their 96 Hondas with a plastic turbo from alibaba

I love the early 90s era Ford trucks! Had one almost identical to this, a few years ago. Mine was a 1996 model, and had the 5.0 engine, instead of the 5.8 engine. I had a 92 f150 straight 6 and a manual transmission 8' bed it was a tank 😊
That metal piece in the cab is to the trans cross member, theres one on each end of it to tie it to the top of the frame. Normally they are left off due to it being a pain to put them back on. I left mine off when I changed out the trans.
Randy I had a 95 F150 with the exact 351 in it. You are correct with your assumption, and you are going to need to replace the entire distributor as I did. Mine suffered from the exact symptoms you are currently dealing with. Now you could try the old school remedy for the pick up within the distributor being dirty by spraying brake cleaner or contact cleaner down in the distributor. Depending on whatever state yours is in it could change nothing or you could get another 60000 miles out of it.
That truck is beautiful, i have repaired rust on them before and that rust on the rear fenders is totally normal. Also above the door frame.
Very nice pickup and super clean, Definitely never "Worked" a day in it's life! Great older truck!
Hi Randy nice piece of diagnostics there nice truck as well hope it work out ok for you and your family are ok
The thick film ignition module on the side of distributor would be my first guess as far as your where all that trans fluid went see if there's a vacuum line coming up to your oil crankcase on your block somewhere cuz you might not have trans fluid in your engine block that would be the two one things I would check
