I have had about every american car made and most foreign but I really have enjoyed the viper stuff, you are earning my respect by tackling some of these cars by yourself like the Tesla. We all have our limits, but most people do not have the balls to tear in to the cars you do. Keep it up I am starting to warm up to your channel from your comedy with Monkey Wrench Mike to the serious stuff like the tesla.

Probably. One of the issues with Vipers is a lot of owners let them sit a lot. Therefore you need to service them based on time rather than mileage. I bought a Viper earlier this year and it only had 32K miles on it, but I'm pretty sure all the fluids except the oil were original (on a 19 year-old car). I had to replace a couple gaskets that were just old and started seeping.

That car doesn't even appear abused. Usually the issue with these is people don't drive them much so you have to do maintenance based on time rather than mileage. All the stuff he's doing is replacement of wear items that go out with age.

A work colleague had a Gen 1 with an incredibly low 5500 miles on it. The maintenance costs involved to maintain it so that he could take it to a car show once or twice a year was insane. Finding a Dealership with a Certified Viper mechanic was super challenging and the access to repair the thing was nuts! Can't remember all the details BUT he had a coolant leak that resulted in the motor needing to be pulled so that a 4" piece of rad hose could be replaced. Something like 6K Canadian ....? He sold it and bought a much later (newer) Viper that he drives all summer and has a blast with it. 😊 Don't forget Randy your Viper is pushing 20 years old and although mileage is low it is "time" that starts to eat rubber and gaskets etc. Still a very cool car though my friend .... as they say if you want to PLAY you gotta PAY it seems?

No. You have to do your own work or take it to a Viper tech (Best in Canada is Raceway Dodge in Etobicoke). Engine doesn't need to be pulled very often in this car especially not for a coolant leak. Gen 1's have paper head gaskets from the factory. They will all fail eventually.

@@AdamMayo-mq2bd as it wasn't my car I really can't recall the fine details. But as best as I remember it was a coolant leak buried close to the firewall down low that couldn't be accessed any other way but to pull the motor? Wish I knew more info for you but sadly it was quite sometime ago now and the ole noggin is going mushy? LOL, I almost feel like the Dealer you mention is where it went as he was from the Brampton/ Mississauga area. I remember he was new to the company and I was training him. He was super nervous to ask but it was looking like rain and he was nervous they would leave it out without the windows installed as they were of course plastic/ canvas windows. I just wanted to see the car so I said sure let's go pick it up and run it home and then get back to work! LOL, he looked relieved .... 😌

The third generation Viper is somewhat under-appreciated but probaby the best value. The first/second generation are the most "raw" and orginal, and a lot of them were wrecked, so nice, low-mileage, clean title examples are getting harder to find and prices are going up. The fourth generation looks just like the third, but has more power and the improved transmission. Combine that with the rarity of being produced only two years and that drives prices higher. The 5th generation has the appeal of being the last Viper and they were made in very limited numbers since they didn't sell when new. Meanwhile, the third generation is a lot easier to live with than a gen 1/2, more powerful, and plenty of good examples are available in the 40-50K range, which makes them around 25K cheaper or more cheaper than a 4th gen, and well under under the six-figure price of of a 5th gen.

Compared to most exotics it is pretty cheap and not demanding when it comes to service. It's fairly easy to service and work on. The main issue is that some parts are difficult to find and/or expensive, and maintenance can get neglected because most of them sit and don't get driven enough. Tires can also eat you alive if you drive a lot or are undisciplined when it comes to the loud pedal lol.

I had a v10 Dodge 3500 that has an small Head gasket leak from Water jacket to cylinder. Maybe you have one because of oxygen sensor error, and a swollen hose . Maybe check the spark plugs on bank one . 12:14

if a classic is cheap, its for a reason, Your gambling that the reason is fixable and doesnt break the bank. People arent just selling classic cars cheaply for the hell of it.
