In the beginning I was always afraid to go to sleep because of the lucid world. it really felt like another dimension and everything was unknown and you didn't know me yet. and I felt alienated in the dream. it made the tension more interesting and I had a semi lucid dream every other day that worked well for me hahaha and also did mantra Happy new year everyone!! Stay lucid🎉

I know what you feel. i felt the same when i got Lucid this year since the beginning i followed this channel because after so long, the Lucid World was new again, and as expected it was a bit overwhelming and way too vivid for a First Lucid Dream. it was a little scary and just like you said, i felt like alien in this Whole New World and the first following nights i was afraid to get lucid again, but now over the span of a whole year since this april i begin to calm down on most of the dreams. last Lucid Dream a week ago i had anxiety again but thats because the Alarm clock had made me lucid and i wanted to wake up to put the alarm down because it was buzzing way too long in the dream and i went lucid but i had almost no control. that Alarm clock themed Lucid Dream was only twenty seconds long lol

Going to be a bit of a shorter comment today since I'm sick (and want to avoid me being a broken record!) but I haven't had much experience with mantras or repeating something over and over again. This dates back to when I was learning multiplication where I just found that visualization and actually doing the math was a lot easier than repeating the same fact over and over again in its raw state. Likewise, I never really understood the point of repeating those "self-help" mantras as I never found them to be beneficial for me. This is definitely a case of "it may help some in certain situations" as stated in the video. While this is not a technique or method that I would use as my brain just isn’t wired that way, I did like how the video stated how one could improve this to better chances for a lucid and to better help their practices! Great video and I hope that those who need it find guidance from it. Wishing a happy and lucid new year!

A better mantra would be : I Am Lucid, I am Lucid , or I Am Lucid Dreaming. if you keep telling that, in the dream, maybe you'll say I Am Lucid and perform a reality check. just saying, it can be changed to something not predicting the future. "I Will Lucid Dream Tonight" is predicting the future, wereas "I Am Lucid" or " I Am Lucid Dreaming" represents the Present so that means, your'e in the Now. in that way i think "I Am Lucid Dream" mantra would be a better alternative, but its not for me since i have too much racing thoughts at night and if i keep saying the mantra in my head i cant fall asleep because i'm busy anticipating my following dream. As for a Lucid Dreaming story about my experience last week... a week ago i had a very very short lucid dream (like thirty or even twenty seconds at the bare minimum). and since i named that dream (i always name my Dreams, Lucid or Non Lucid, they always have a title, even though i cant read my own writing scribbles lol) "The Wrong Time for Lucid Dreaming, The Alarm Clock made me Lucid for Twenty Seconds" (yes, very long title, but it represents the main theme of that dream) you can already tell what was wrong with the dream to begin with. its a paradox of some sort. It was a Lucid Dream but it was one that was not the right time because my alarmclock was already of for the longest time. the dream started out okay but with the alarm that was anoying my In Dream Character Neighbours who said i needed to shut up that alarm, but i tried and couldn't like something fell off. and then suddenly it clicked. i began thinking it must be all a dream. did two reality checks in this. first of wich was the alarm clock reading the time. one mayor plothole in the dream, i couldnt read, it was one big haze, so i also tried the Nose Pinch and that worked. so i was lucid but i started panicking and getting too excited and panicked and losing the dream, then i did something that alwas works to get the dream into focus, i rubbed my hands together like i would try to get my hands warm. when my hands warmed up the dream was In Focus. but not for very long because the alarm is still going off and i thought i overslept big time so i needed to wake up. i said to myself to calm down but the paranoia of not knowing how long the alarm was already going i wanted to wake up and because i already lost the dream before i did no desire to fly trough the roof of the building (wich i was intended to do had it not been for the alarm buzzing off annoyingly) but instead waking up, pretty easily. and that was the very short twenty seconds Lucid Dream. also, the dream somehow got pretty scary dark when i went Lucid, maybe thats because the dream faded fast or it was because dreams tend to do weird stuff with the daytime. anyway, that dream was one week ago, actually 22nd of December. the Before Lucid scenes were very personal so i cant describe them here. but man, what a weird and crazy dream that was lol.

I think I previously heard you give the answer on what the flaw is with the phrase you mentioned, and that is that it is not “present-based”. So, if your mind remembers it, it is still likely to be thinking of it as something for later, not to check NOW? Let’s see if I’m right…

So why are the Indians using all those different mantras during the day and for mediation? I would say that any mantra is a bit better than just the mess of the monkey mind we are taught in school in the west. At least a mantra prevents the mind from being totally unorganized and having that short attention span when it hasn't to work on an actual problem. It moves the attention a bit more into the present and makes us a bit more aware of the moment and the surroundings. I think your choice of wording is another plus, because it includes "dreaming" and the question if you are dreaming right now. But when you are repeating it constantly while being awake and not doing a reality check it might be a problem again. I'm not sure if they are worth the hassle. Anyways, thanks for the video!

Hi Daniel! I started my journey on December 17th (though without subscribing, simply by watching your free videos and putting the basics into practice). In any case, by now I'm pretty much interested in this subject (which I already knew myself, but, through your videos, I realized that most of the things I knew were false information) so, I was thinking of buying your book, Are you Dreaming, for January. I know it takes time and you have to train in a certain way, as well as the mindset, but I like it because the simple fact of remembering my dreams down to the smallest detail (dream recall) is extraordinary. In short, I thank you for all this. I just have a little question to ask you, if I don't bother you too much I mean: It's the third time, including this night, that I've had dreams about lucid dreams. In one of your videos I remember that you said it was a somewhat complicated phenomenon to explain. Maybe, could you give me some little advice or trick to recognize that they are just dreams? (only when I wake up do I realize that I hadn't been truly lucid, based on some inconsistencies that occurred or on the reality checks that I'm used to doing and which, in dreams about lucid dreams, I performed with little importance or with too much enthusiasm.) In essence , I'm not actually aware but in the dream I think I am. It's a weird thing, I know, haha. (I hope I didn't write badly, I'm Italian)

  • @LucidDreamPortal

    @LucidDreamPortal

Hey, thanks for the detailed message. Firstly, yes I think you'll find my book helpful, i designed it to be a complete introduction to the subject, so it's packed with info. Dreaming about lucid dreaming is common, especially to start with, as we dream about the things we're interested in, or new novel subjects. The first and most important step is to train yourself in waking hours to never talk or think about lucid dreaming without performing a serious reality test. This should quickly transform your dreams about lucidity into lucid dreams. The real trick to this subject is always being ready to discover that you might be dreaming at any time. Be really open to that possibility. I hope that helps.

@@LucidDreamPortalThank you so much for replying, it means a lot to me! Yes, in fact, I had also seen the video that talks about the "Uno Reverso" technique in which we mainly have to be careful when we hear, think or see content about lucid dreams (especially for beginners like me, who are very interested). Honestly speaking, these days I was trying to find the technique that could be right for me, at least to start well, especially targeting DILD (I prefer not to disturb my sleep, so no WILD at the moment haha). The Dream Journal Reflection Technique is the one I like the most, also because I noticed (before I got to know it by watching the video in which you explained the various steps to follow) that I have always had the curiosity to analyze the details of the dream upon awakening, trying to understand what opportunities I missed to realize I was dreaming. And during the day it often comes naturally to me to think about the last vivid dream I had. In short, I think this technique could work well for me. Obviously, I'm super ready to change tactics if the need arises. One thing I'm learning, is that I have to trust the process. I don't have to give up if I don't see results, I just have to look at what I haven't done and try to improve. Thanks again for your advice, Daniel, it's truly invaluable!

I hate to burst the bubble, but if that person was claiming that was a lucid experience, they were definitely lying. It happens a lot in places like Discord, which is why I recommend avoiding such spaces - they tend to be full of people who will exaggerate or make things up for attention. Lucid dreams will feel exactly the same length of time that they occurred for, and the longest that is ever likely to be would be a maximum of two hours. Non lucid dreams can give the illusion of longer time, but that is a form of delusion. But you definitely cannot have distorted time in lucid dreams, and anyone claiming "days of lucidity" is 100% lying. As for what it feels like having top tier dream recall, well, pretty much exactly the same as recalling any other lived experience. In the same way that you can remember the past hour clearly, it's the same as that. I hope that helps. (and pro tip: remember, you never know who you're talking to on Discord, and oftentimes if you met them in the real world, you'd immediately realise you can't take them seriously. Places like Discord and Reddit are the single worst place to learn about lucid dreaming. )

Hi Daniel! Just received your book in the mail today. I’ve had experiences with lucid dreaming throughout the years, I was very hardcore with it as a young teenager. Getting back into it now in my 20s. My question for you is, after years of practice, mindfulness, and testing/questioning reality, does the ability to choose when to lucid dream become available to the dreamer? Meaning, in a sense, telling myself before bed, “I will remember to question if I am dreaming” will almost guarantee becoming lucid? Simply being able to achieve lucidity with most of your dreams? I wonder how this process works for you, after many years of deep research and experience with lucid dreaming. What’s in store for the future, if the practice has been done correctly year after year? A video would be great to discuss this. I understand there is no “perfect” technique, and I also understand that learning this skill takes time and practice. So what happens when you are actually mastering the skill? Would love for you to expand on this. Apologies for the long paragraphs.

I don't like to use the word "guarantee" as it's a bit misleading, but I can say that I can choose to be lucid on any given night. It's not always 100% successful due to variables we cannot control, but realistically about 80% success rate. I'll definitely consider making a video about this, as it's a common question - so I'll answer this more in-depth in that video (likely a podcast episode)

@@LucidDreamPortal Also Daniel! One more thing to maybe consider when discussing the topic: Think of a sports athlete. Once they master the sport, maybe have a long career, they retire. But they still know how to play that sport, and still will always have some skill with it. How does this correlate with lucid dreaming? Let’s use you for this example. Do you still need to dream journal/perform tests every day in order to choose to become lucid on any given night? Is this a skill that fades if not consistently used enough? Just some questions to consider answering.

Thank you so much frolandostudios! Reality testing tends to be a practice best suited towards regained awareness lucid dreams (aka DILDs) , but you could use an approach like the DreamWalker technique but swap out the reality test section for your phone test. That would likely be the most direct approach. It seems as if your mind is becoming more receptive to the idea of testing reality, so it seems like you're well on the way to more regular lucidity. School has started and I have to go back to waking up being disturbed by the alarm and I can't seem to remember my dream because of it. I'm wondering if this will affect my dream recall and my ability to lucid dream. Once again, thank you Daniel! Your videos have truly helped me immensely! ❤

Thanks for the kind message, and I'm so pleased to help! To answer your question, it's really a matter of mathematics... less sleep = less REM (dreaming) so there will be some influence. But you'll still have some REM. Ideally I'd recommend going to be earlier, as 8 hours of sleep is important for psychological and physical wellbeing. Failing that, you can still use the extra REM at the weekend.

0:18 It's so sad that people who lie about lucid dreaming get way more views than those who know what they're saying. Lucid dream researcher who spend his entire life studying lucid dreams? Nah. A guy who learned about lucid dreaming on a forum last week. It has hundreds of thousands of views. I know for sure that this is a reliable source.

Thanks Elias, but don't worry too much about the illusion of "many views" elsewhere, they are often just artificial. It's just a shame that so many people fall for such things. The actual size of the lucid dream community, especially those who take it seriously, is actually really rather small. And I'd definitely rather reach real people, and those that take the subject seriously than have an illusion of popularity. But I really appreciate your kind words.

How do you play the guitar? Just repeat I will play the guitar today. I will play the guitar today. I will play the guitar today. I will play the guitar today. Oh, wow it works! Oh, then I must be dreaming right now.

Hey, I dont comment often nowadays but I have a question. I use sleep as android sleep tracking app, it has a lucid dreaming option which says your dreaming in rem stages. I dont lucid dream often these days but when I used it I had a very vivid and a lucid dream wondering if it's a placebo effect or does it actually work. Thank you

Often when we use things like this it increases our focus, so it's more your own brain than the app that is helping. So yes a variety of placebo. Be wary of sleep trackers as they are almost all very low reliability, there's no consumer product with anything even close to a 70% accuracy rate, and often very much lower. So treat them as a fun but unreliable tool that help you to stay focused.

Yes there are lots. The most important being daily reality checks, dream journalling and intention setting. Take a look around the channel for plenty more details 🙂

Hi Daniel,i know its unrelated but when you do morning naps you need yo wake up with your regular alarm or just wake up naturally ?,yesterday and today i woke up naturally and was in the end of a dream.

  • @LucidDreamPortal

I don't tend to use alarms unless it's absolutely necessary. Remember, a morning nap does require a period of wakefulness after waking up, 30-60 mins, so the stage of sleep you wake up from generally doesn't matter.

What do you mean the stage doesn't matter ?i woke up for 20-30 minutes @@LucidDreamPortal

Pretty much exactly as it sounds - it doesn't matter - as most sleep in morning naps is going to either be REM or light NREM, knowing which stage you woke up from really isn't going to tell you anything of practical benefit after the required period of wakefulness. It's only really relevant if you're planning on returning immediately to sleep. This is why we use ART before returning to sleep.
