    a quick question and my second comment (sorry if thats too much lol) if you read my comment, then i have a couple of questions that makes clear what my problems are. How can i maintain awereness in reading a book or watching a movie when my mind is racing with thoughts of Anxiety, hypochondria, Worries, thinking about future events like reading future books and watching movies in the near future While Reading or Watching the Movie? because thats my biggest problem with Maintaining Awereness. i actually tried it already this january with movies but i seem to always fall back in mindless thoughts with no end, and then i dont notice i'm watching a movie and forgot sometimes what i've read. Is this a normal thing or is this because i have ADHD or ADD or Panick Disorder?! that also can explain why many of my dreams are going form one place to the next in a span of ten seconds and the dream changing themes all of the sudden. thats also another reason i find it hard to be lucid or stay lucid, because the dream changes every thirty seconds or less or more. again, love this video.

    I never heard this ADA technique, but I perform all day awareness recently and found it really gain more lucid dreams. I observe the environment and the surroundings wherever I go everyday. If something is unusual or different than yesterday, I would think " That's strange! Am I dreaming? " For example, I see a new security guard whom I never seen before in my office building, I will perform that sentense or I see the road under construction which is the way from home or office, I will perform it. This video is valuable !! Just pay more attention to it in your daily life and you will also do the same thing when you're dreaming.

    Thanks Arlindo, it's a common misunderstanding, and one that is absolutely everywhere. It always boils down to the same point: it's not a lucid dream, it's a lucid you. And that basically means, how you think changes, and they way you need to think is to question the nature of your reality. So one's "awareness" (silly vague word that really we all need to drop), is focused onto that question with logic.

    @@LucidDreamPortal Absolutely! Last night I had a dream that I was on a train and I noticed three individuals-one sitting, two standing-all smirking at me and all with the exact same face and deep blue eyes. I found it odd and began to think that perhaps it was just a coincidence. But then, just before I woke up with a terribly blocked nose, I found myself asking the question: Am I dreaming? You are absolutely right, Daniel. It didn't matter how aware I was of my vivid surroundings. What good is being aware if one misconstrues the apparent reality? It mattered what I thought about the situation. My critical thinking. I was on the brink of becoming lucid. I dreamed I had extra toes on my right foot, and was completely convinced it was not a dream, I even demonstrated the ergonomics of my right foot to a dream character and felt the ground as more comfortable on my right foot as I touched the ground with my bare feet. Utterly stuns me, and so, was a good dream, and may be of assistance. And I have even more craziness for you, the last time I had a lucid dream quite recently, it was not I that realized I was lucid - but a dream character did!! I could not believe it - absolutely insane! Once he made me lucid I inquired him, but his body transformed into a television screen in front of my eyes!

    ADA was something I had never heard of before the podcast episode which talks about it, and since then I've placed it in the "bad" category because of what it wants you to do. For me, even trying trying to be aware of everything in a single moment is a bit overwhelming as, like you said in the video, there's a million things happening around me. It's generally exhausting to try and mentally take note of every little thing. I don't know how one could go about day-to-day life while trying to reach those impossible levels of awareness constantly. Based on what I said above, I didn't look farther into it because it seemed all around like a bad mind virus, therefor I was a bit shocked when I heard about how it could be beneficial. When boiled down to just trying to take self-awareness and reflection back during autopilot, it is sensible and what we already should be doing in general already. The name "ADA" and the extension of it to impossible levels just isnt necessary for something that already works. Thanks for the great video today and for somewhat confronting my black and white thinking trends. Although ADA in its state is impossible, it does draw from good ideas and could be used (in its basic, not impossible form) to help with practices. Great brain food video!

    Maintaining awareness in anything for me has always been a trouble and was always the reason i gave up on Meditation (its a very very long time since i ever meditated) and also the reason i dont like to watch long movies anymore whilst i was sucked in the movies when i was younger and time flew by. now if i watch a movie, even if its just a hour and half, it always feels so long and boring. what happens now is my mind is go off wondering just about everywere and everytime. when i read a book i daydream of reading another book, when i watch a movie i thinking of something i have to do tommorow or counting how many minutes the movie is still left. so maintaining awareness all day everyday is just impossible for me, but if i had to test and do it at certain points of the day, i will do it with one hour of reading, and ofcourse, staying as long as focussed on the movie as possible. I hope my excessive overthinking will shut down at those times because that anxiety and overworrying is one of the reasons i cant focus on anything (even a movie is hard to watch sometimes, because i'm thinking about thousand things in one second and its very tiring).as for Lucid or Non Lucid Dreaming, i have dreams again so the First days of Januari are back to normal and i'm all set for a hopefully lucid year. wish me luck people and stay lucid!

  • @Carl_Frank
    @Carl_Frank6 ай бұрын

    I can see where the conflation error occurred, because terminology has to be sort of simplified to make it efficient, as in “regained awareness” or “maintained awareness”. Those really refer to “awareness of the experience being a dream and all that implies”, but you can’t really pack all that into a convenient shorthand term. But if people don’t keep in mind the full meaning of the terms, they can make this kind of error. But it’s interesting that attempting this impossible feat can lead to success. Maybe, as you suggest, with a change of perspective on this, it can be worthwhile to attempt… but then it kind of becomes akin to just doing what you already recommend: regular “NOWs” or reality tests.

    Hi there Daniel. I used to practice lucid dreaming a long while back, but I decided to stop. Yet, I still get lucidity-related moments in my dreams sometimes, especially at times when lucid dreaming is on my mind in waking life but I don't do much with the thought - reminds me those problems that appear in dreams because you can't solve them in real life. I have a problem with my realization moments, though, because often when I (vaguely) realize that I'm dreaming, I can't help but think "oh no, not this again... I really don't want to do this right now" or I suddenly feel a very intense fear (of nothing in particular), and then I feel the dreaming state slip away from me at an incredible speed. When it happens, it feels like I'm deliberately exiting the dream because I want to get out, and I can't control my motivations at that moment, while at the same time, I realize deep down that I want to lucid dream and that nothing in the dream can hurt me. It's as if dream autopilot has an overwhelming control over my motivations. Maybe there's a memory or a negative expectation in the way? Can you help me with this? I'd love to get something nice of my short realizations.

    Hi Karolymak, Firstly, thank you for your lovely support and kind words! If you've not done so already, definitely give the 19 day course (here on the channel) your time, as that will give you a nice structured plan to increase lucidity. Think of it as a primer for how the day-to-day life of a lucid dreamer should be. So here's the trick with understanding dreams: don't assume complexity or hidden messages. This is a really common distraction, and one of the ways that keeps the subject somewhat "woo". In order to lucid dream we're not looking for interpretation of dreams, as generally interpretation is a red herring. Think of dreams as "daydreaming with the breaks off", what you dream about is generally nothing more deep or mysterious than what you daydream about during waking hours, just the entire orchestra of the brain gets to play along. The surreal elements of dreams, where the illusion of secret messages comes from, is due to the complexity of our memories. Let's say you're having an anxiety dream, your brain is going to call upon thousands of memories of anxiety, and you'll get an odd collage of all of those. The fastest and most useful question to ask is "Who am I and what am I feeling/thinking" in the dream. The scenery of the dream is downstream of your inner-narrative. And it's the inner-narrative that tells us what the "purpose" of the dream is. With that in mind, there's not really much I can suggest in terms of books, as they almost all go down more esoteric and excessively complex (and irrelevant to lucid dreaming) paths. I hope this helps a bit.

    What are your thoughts on the All Day Awareness technique of a repeating 10 minute timer? It seems different from most ADA methods, because the main goal is not awareness. Rather you set a timer for 10 minutes, and at the end of it you try to remember everything you've done in the last 10 minutes. And then you just repeat that process for the whole day. Even though the goal is technically memory skills, it's supposed to practice your brain into being more "aware."

  • @LucidDreamPortal

    @LucidDreamPortal

    6 ай бұрын

    Honestly it sounds like the kind of silliness that gets posted on Reddit by armchair psychologists. Firstly, it's absurdly impractical and unrealistic - an alarm every ten minutes would be a form of torture, impossible to sustain, and entirely impractical to any person with adult responsibilities. It's also the opposite of building prospective memory by relying on a device rather than your own abilities. More importantly, as mentioned in this video, more awareness does not equal more lucid dreams, and even if that wasn't true, memory and awareness are two entirely different things. So it would be a rather useless and unpleasant exercise, that would not benefit lucid dreaming at all, and would actually actively work against developing the skills required. A watered down version, maybe once an hour, might be a good way to build recall, which could help with remembering dreams, but that's me trying to offer a generous interpretation. Hope that helps

    In a nutshell, you're developing (over a long period of time) higher metacognition during the day. So you're more alert to your inner states. Unfortunately the typical terms for lucid dreaming are misleadingly simplistic, so they don't help communicate these ideas. When I say reality check what I essentially mean is metacognition that is focused on the possibility that this moment is a dream. We need that thought to be a primary logical conclusion when we catch ourselves during moments of distraction, mind wandering and autopilot. But this should become a default conclusion. I'll make a video!

Is that "off limits" for dream recall and lucid dreaming, or that amount is ok? I am asking you this because it really contributes to my mental health. Cheers. P.S.: i posted this here, because i dont know if there is a proper place to submit this kind of mundane doubts.

    About 8 weeks in after revisiting the subject of lucid dreaming and I entered the void of n sleep for the first time in like 20 years. 🎉 I think 😂 I went to bed and set the intention to ask my self the question and do the test in my next dream and I had a short dream of stumbling and rolling/falling down a hill without knowing if I could land safe or would get stabbed by a branch or something. Very short dream almost immediately after I fell asleep in my first circle and fell into the void, did the nose pinch test (can you do that in n sleep?). And I just enjoyed the "view". I woke up a few minutes later unfortunately. any tip how to stay there? I think it can last till n3 happens? Ty Daniel ❤

    Hi RainisaurusRox! Not wanting to potentially rain on your parade, but it's somewhat more probable that what you experienced was actually REM but without a sensory hallucination - it's always worth remembering that dreams can be about absolutely anything, including void states, in-between states, sleep paralysis, insomnia and a lot more. It's always somewhat safter to assume that if you're conscious and experiencing something peculiar that there's a higher chance than not that it's occurring within REM, only with an odd plot. This helps to take advantage of otherwise missed chances for lucidity. That said, I'm not ruling out that it could have been conscious NREM, as that is certainly possible, just lower on the odds of probability. Did you experience any sense of bodily self in this state? The best approach for maintaining these states, regardless of the period of sleep in which they occur, is to really accept the three-dimensional space of that state, engage with the "environment" even if it is an endless voice. I hope this makes a little sense. And thank you so much!

    @LucidDreamPortal Then rem kicked in very early this time. Maybe that's what happened? 🤔. Good point with my body. I performed the nose pinch test. I was aware of my body and it was even a bit tricky to reach my nose cuz I was falling in somekind of vortex, like sky diving inside a tornado. Maybe falling in this short dream lead to just another scene referring falling. Would make more sense.

    @LucidDreamPortal Oh and I appreciate your honesty. It was just so shortly after falling asleep that I simply didn't thought it was rem, even in that moment. Still performed the rt thou :D. In the same night I had a kind of false awakening too and it was like almost a 2. It was perfectly faked but I knew something was behind me and I started to talk to this thing "okay, don't do anything creepy now, here's what we do: I'll turn around so I can see you and we can have a chat. Okay? Hello? Okay I turn around now and we can talk" and I turned around, removed my sleeping mask and kept being diplomatic and talked to that thing and I looked at my girlfriend and was like omg sorry. Holy s. What the f. Sorry :D It was a weird night. :D

    I tried it and I did indeed get very clear vivid dreams. but not lucid. but do you have a better chance if you are more mindful through meditation? You probably have to add logical and critical thinking to it. i have one more question, my focus is kinda bad and i lose it in the middle of NOWS. So I think: I have an idea, I'm doing micro NOWS now. I observe, self-reflect and try to think logically and critically for as long as possible when I observe my surroundings. I do more than 15 micro NOWS. but the duration of the micro NOWS only lasts a minute or half a minute for me I hope it works. and can boost my focus through meditation and then do full NOWS.

  • @LucidDreamPortal

    Hi Jim, firstly - thank you! Meditation is a bit of a red herring, again remember that it's not "more awareness" that you're after, but more of a specific focused questioning logical awareness. Meditation doesn't tend to lend itself towards that, instead it tends to work primarily on building calm-focused-observation, but it's lacking focused metacognition on the primary question "Is this a dream?". Think of micro tests and NOWs as two ends of a spectrum, it's not binary, you perform your "moment of questioning" in response to the potency of the trigger. The bigger the trigger (the more closely resembling a potential dream), the closer to the NOW end of the spectrum your questioning should fall, the smaller the trigger, the closer to a micro test. Hope that helps.

    hi daniel this is pretty much unrelated to the video but hey, algorithm. anyyyway i really need your help! last night at the very very end of a long dream, my dream switched to me lying in bed. i then thought, i need to perform i reality check. i looked at my watch, and nothing happened. so my dream self thought, hmmm that’s weird let me try to plug my nose. i plug my nose and im still breathing! i then try again and im still breathing. however the thing that irks me is i just ignored it!! k started coming up excuses in my dream! i was like, i must not be pinching hard enough???!!! ahhhh im so unlucky. how can i avoid this next time?!

  • @LucidDreamPortal

    Ah it's so easy to get caught out by this! Don't worry though, it's pretty normal and just takes a little adjustment in your daily practice. First thing, remember that: "if I start making excuses for a reality check giving strange results, I'm almost certainly dreaming". Secondly, really start investing more time in focusing on the test and remembering that it is a binary yes/no answer - there is no in-between during your waking hours. Make that your priority and stick with it. This is the best (and really only) way to overcome this. Hope that helps!

    Hi Arnold, and happy new year to you too! - It seems to be working fine here, not to sound like typical tech-support, but have you tried logging out and in again? And are you using a phone or PC when you see this? (but thanks for letting me know!) If you're using the KZread app, make sure you're running the latest version. I've put a poll in the members area to see if anyone else is having the same issue. Please let me know if it resolves for you, and thank you again, I really appreciate it when people let me know if something isn't working. It's really helpful. EDIT: one other thought, are you using a VPN? - I've been in talks with KZread recently regarding the downvote attacks on the channel, it may be that they've implemented something that stops VPN addresses from interacting (or something else). So far on the poll no one else is reporting the same issue.

  • @LucidDreamPortal

    WBTB interrupts sleep which is vital for health and wellbeing. If you're waking naturally, it's best to attempt to return to sleep. It's really not necessary to interrupt your sleep for longer than is natural for lucid dreaming.
