@Peter Flood Thanks for putting me on tabs! I actually did some research and, apparently, the quote does come from his book "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" -- in which he criticizes the educational system. You can do some superficial research on Google to confirm that, but I also got an old paper: doi.org/10.1080/00220973.1942.11019059 There are many more studies and papers on Twain's work... the quote above aren't his exact words, but a good interpretation of it! Just FYI, all the quotes I posted were from the video and attributed by the speaker himself =)

Nice.... Here's a few words of Wisdom - on How and "Why....?" You should be special.... or Not... "It doesn't matter.... if You're "Special" or NOT.... What matters is WHAT YOU DO.... with those TALENTS, and "Specialties"... *Whether* YOU *HAVE* THEM... or NOT.... It DOESN'T matter..... WHAT DOES.... MATTER.... is the WILL, THE DRIVE, THE KNOWLEDGE, THE DETERMINATION, MOTIVATION, and the DESIRE.... to SUCCEED in Life..... THAT'S what makes *YOU....* SPECIAL. Because LITERALLY -- 70% of THIS ENTIRE WORLD.... Probably DOESN'T EVEN know *THAT* and THAT'S *WHY* they DON'T LIVE "SPECIAL LIVES...." Because THEY DON'T know HOW -... to BE.... Special... ON THEIR OWN MERITS, as a "PERSON".... and NOT as an *INDIVIDUAL...* To truly be SPECIAL -- as a person... is to KNOW.... *HOW* to BE.... "Special." NOT *JUST* on YOUR *OWN* merits... as a PERSON. :)

I’ve never let my schooling get in the way of my education I won't have a problem with you if you aim high and miss, but I will have a real problem if you aim low and hit If you think you can or if you think you can't, you’re right Rather be a hour early then a minute late You are what you repeatedly do, therefore excellence ought to be a habit, not an act You may be tough, but always remember to be kind Ego is the anesthesia that deadens the pain of stupidity, pride is the burden of a foolish person If you’re going to do a job, do it right Good isn’t good enough if it can be better, and better isn’t good enough if it can be best I’m not worried you won't be successful, I’m worried that you won’t fail time to time Son, just stand. No matter how rough the sea you keep standing. No matter what you don’t give up It doesn’t matter to me any longer how long I live, what matters to me most is how I live It is never wrong to do the right thing How you do anything is how you do everything Ask yourself every night, how am I living?

Great list of quotes from the video! I hope you don't mind me adding one that sticks with me, although not from Rick Rigsby, but I believe it to be on par. The uncle of one of the wisest men I know (my father), said in his final weeks of life, "I've taught my kids how to live... now it's time that I teach them how to die." There is a reason that people looked to him for guidance and leadership; it's because he knew that he was always in the drivers seat of life. To be able to keep your head up, even when the gravity of the situation is dragging it down, is what it takes to be a glimmer of light in the darkest of times, when it is difficult to look at the glass half full because that same glass looks entirely empty. You never know when people are in desperate need for an optimist who can remind them that the pain they are feeling is merely a reminder that we felt something much more, which is a thing that, while lost, should never be forgotten. My great uncle led by example, as he provided his family with strength that lasted long after his passing. I never knew my great uncle, but clearly his impact resonates through the people who were lucky enough to know him. Be that resonating factor for the people you know, because you never know what kind of ripple you will create. Perhaps you too will inspire your great nephew to lead a positive life.

It gave me a further respect for him and it made me realize that his wisdom was more than just words… today was his funeral and here I stand today at this video, without him still asking myself, how am I living Papa I love you may you Rest In Peace dear friend and may the perpetual light of god shine apon you and all the souls of the dearly departed. Ive watched 2 videos here every week for a while now. Admiral William Mcravens university speech and Rick's speech. I was sitting in on the couch watching stupid people videos and the Admiral's video came on. Next was Rick's. The next day i woke up and made my bed. Hadnt done it in about 6 years. Had the worst day at work. Damn near got fired because of another employee's stupidity. Came home and went to my room to got to bed and saw it all neat and boxed and my pillows all nice. Teared up a bit. I got one thing right that day. Next day i did the same and ironed my clothes. And again and again. A week later i made my own coffee instead of buying it. My own lunch and dinner instead of mcdonalds and ramen. I crawled out of the depression slump i was in. Started going out more, bringing my kids and my gf around to places on the weekend. Started college later. Still pushing forward today. All because of 2 speeches. I looked back to the things my parents and grandparents told me as a kid. All that combined made me who i am today. And it all started because i listen to a guy that had no say in anything i did, nor of any importance to me. He made me make my bed. Im not joking one bit.

So many of us fight depression, etc., waste our time with mind-numbing nonsense to escape our lives. You just keep putting one foot in front of the other in the way you are now and you can be proud of yourself for the things you do that are in the best interest of yourself and your family. “Success is not measured by the heights one attains, but by the obstacles one overcomes in its attainment”. - Booker T. Because of hate. There are builders like Rick Rigsby and then, those who tear down. More inspirational men -- David Wilkerson, A.W, Tozer, and Leonard Ravenhill -- look them up. Those 3 men did more good for the human race than we'll ever know. Just a few examples : 1. Tozer - got people off the streets and went after Al Capone and Frank Nitti's men to try and get them to quit being criminals. Worked and Preached in Chicago in the 1920's - 1950;s. Had Balls of steel. 2. Ravenhill - walked across the entire British Isles with the Holiness Trekkers in the 20's and 30's. Didn't earn a penny's wage in 20 years -- people just fed the poor man. Slept outside in the cold of winter in tents and barns -- Brought entire cities under conviction of sin. Once got fined $5 for holding an outdoor prayer meeting in London during WWII -- it started with 6 people and was supposed to be private, but people kept showing up and joining in the streets until there were over 5000. 3. David Wilkerson -- started the first major rehab program for Heroine Addicts. And it was the first to actually work. Broke up and drastically reduced the numbers of several NYC street gangs in Brooklyn.

Critic (al) you may not have the same beliefs as this man, but anyone can have the same morals. This man is not trying to tell you to believe in God but to believe in people. Is it fair to let one small thing like religion get in the way of a phenomenal lesson about being a good human being? Can one small thing block your entire view of what he is actually saying? It is people who do that who stand in the way of greatness. People who will like something like a moon, which is 400 times smaller than the sun, block all of the light coming in, that cause a personal eclipse and don't allow themself to be better. Can we not look beyond that on the value of people?! Martin Luther King Jr. is a great example of someone who could see past the small moons in life. Imagine what he could have done if he wasn't killed. Killed by someone who could only see the moon. I seriously hope, after watching this entire video, you were able to see some of the light despite the differences in religion. Because you won't get far if you only ever look at the moon. Without the sun you wouldn't be able to see anything and the world would be dark. The reason so many people die today, is due to others only seeing the moon. Don't let race, gender, religion, financial status, looks, or any other moons get in the way of the all bright and glorious sun. Realize that what he is saying is be good. Be a good human being. I wish you would see that. I wish everyone could see that. If more peoppe could be the person he was exemplifying in this speech the world would be great, light, and happy. If more people could do what this man is asking, we might be able to raise our children in a world of little fear, where we don't have to worry about sending our children to school each day, or letting them go play outside. Can we forget about the differences and unify ourselves with a common goal of goodness? We don't have to all believe the same, but we can all hope for the same thing. A good world. Let's try and make the world a little bit better, and try to see the sunlight. Trying to constantly bring people into the light, rather than tear them away into the mists of darkness. Because in the light there is hope. Hope for a better tomorrow. Something we can all agree on
