Inside the Mind of a Master Procrastinator | Tim Urban | TED
Tim Urban knows that procrastination doesn't make sense, but he's never been able to shake his habit of waiting until the last minute to get things done. In this hilarious and insightful talk, Urban takes us on a journey through KZread binges, Wikipedia rabbit holes and bouts of staring out the window -- and encourages us to think harder about what we're really procrastinating on, before we run out of time.

@@oppenheimer11 Well, I just got diagnosed this year so I’m still learning. Medication can help but having strategies to help deal with it helps the other part. Talk to a doctor about it and they will help you to find someone to test you. The channel I go to for strategies is HowToADHD. They have helped me quite a bit. Also a doctor can prescribe medication for ADHD. I take a non-stimulant medication. Your doctor can help you figure out if stimulants or non-stimulants help you more. They typically try a non-stimulant first because those are less heavy on the heart. Stimulants regulate heart rate while non-stimulants tend to work on the mind. However, this can vary from person to person. Talking to a doctor is a good first step and checking out that ADHD channel can help too.

@@oppenheimer11 There's no way to really get rid of it, since it's a type of neurodiversity (basically, it's just how your brain functions). However, you could look into behavioral therapy (with a psychologist who specializes in ADHD) and/or go to a psychiatrist and ask about a possible diagnosis and farmacological treatment; both of those at the same time seem to be of good help to many people :>

Time and tide will not wait for any person. That means we must pay attention to how new technologies, and specifically AI, will make it easier for companies to become more efficient. Simply, this companies may not need a lot of workers, your bank may not need many staff. Your insurer may not need many workers. And the list keeps growing.

It has nothing to do with AI. Economic distress in America is enormous. Many banks have gone under. Inflation is biting harder. Ukrain miscalculation is obvious. Facebook has been using AI in most of its features and products for more than 15 years now, so Ai has nothing to do with it. They embarked on unprofitable projects. And over hired. Apple has never laid off employees despite the economic downturn. They did well in hiring and never had failed projects. Metaverse failed. Gaming projects failed. Fintech, Lira failed. In the last 20 months, Sanbberg left, nobody is there to "tame the lion" Most Tech companies went woke: hired talents in order to prevent competitors from having access, they kept them idle, just to hijack a pool of talent. Over hired without proper assessment and protection. The existing projects couldn't turn in expected revenue, even before inflation war in USA set it. Let's put it in perspective without blaming AI. 95% of big tech have been using AI in the last 15 years. Building a passive income is a real hedge against inflation. Such is a thing that won't fail when the govt and the big tech fails.

This is one of the most relatable videos I have ever watched. It perfectly summed up everything that I think in a way that anyone could understand. I'm procrastinating on 3 things simultaneously by writing this. I'll get back to work now.
I have never heard such an accurate description of my brain as this. Pretty much everything he says throughout the video is me my whole life. I've rewatched it so many times now.
"After that, we're gonna go on a KZread spiral" _That's... why I'm here._

Facebooker syndrome. People only post about themselves when they are doing well. You don't hear people speak on their continual failures. They do their best to put their best foot forward and only show that side of themselves out of fear of ridicule or rejection or seeming unattractive. Quit measuring yourself against others. Measure yourself against yourself.

@Anifco67 Sorry, i'll have to disagree with it. When you are a procrastinator, you are kind of perfectionist. Your mind wants certain, specific set up before it feels comfortable to do it. Also, one little discomfort in your task, can push you away from it, and it might take you months or years to come back to it. It's real, it happens.

Excuses I make to myself when I procrastinate: "I'll have time later" (when I won't) "I'm still brainstorming" (When I've spent 75% of the project "brainstorming") "I'll start soon" "After I finish this game" "I'll just have a short break" "It's not that much work" "If it gets bad I'll request a due date extension" "I've earned a mental health break, I'll just do it in an hour" (When I've done nothing to earn a mental health break and I certainly know I won't do it in an hour) "I'm done with my homework" (When I myself know I'm not) I've even gone as far as to purposefully disconnect my internet or "lose" my school bag just to have an excuse to not do work. Why I lie to myself when I know it's a lie is beyond me, it's an unhealthy and stupid habit of mine but I can't get rid of it.

+greennumberthree It's not sad, it's what evolution taught us to do. Our human bodies aren't made for an advanced society like this where instant gratification is moments away at anytime, anywhere. We as humans aren't meant to have the kind of jobs that most of us find themselves having. We aren't really supposed to have jobs even, our evolution tells us hunting, eating, sleeping and fucking is the good life, not doing stressful, productive stuff. Try not to struggle against our biology, it won't make it better.

Tim Urban is damn right on this. I am a procrastinator and I knew it in 2019, but I was very good in my employment so I did neglected it. But rest areas of my life is incomplete because they haven't any deadline. This is the right moment to start a simple step toward my ultimate goal.
Explaining the procastinator mind in metaphorical way is very good and it is easy to conceive the information . I really enjoyed this ted talk.
