Wonderful episode. I don't agree with Bernie's 4 day work week but I do understand why people like it and I think we should be discussing it. My friends keep telling me to watch "The Bear". Now CT. Only wish I had time.

Check out Jim Wilder 's book Escaping Enemy Mode. Biggest thing is to keep the relationship bigger than the problem.

I found the guest's arguments lacking substance, as they avoided discussing the policy proposal put forth by the Vermont senator and instead focused solely on a theology of work. My understanding of the policy is that it seeks to change the legal definition of full-time work from 40 hours to 32, without barring individuals from working more if they choose to do so. When the guest suggested "why not make it 10 or 0," it seemed like a diversion from the core issue. While disagreement with a policy is acceptable(I might even disagree with the policy), I urge the guest to engage directly with the proposal or provide rationale for why 40 hours is deemed the ideal legal standard for full-time work over other potential options such as 32, 36, 48, or 44 hours. It's worth noting that Ben Shapiro's endorsement of this book comes as no surprise.

I had the same reaction. It seems like the typical political conservative argument - then I Googled the guest and he wrote another book in 2020 talking about how Elizabeth Warren would be bad for the country so he comments here are not too surprising

It's sugared with a powdery toping of theology. Comes back to a conservative utilitarian assumption that having more personal time could lead to nothing good. I think I heard "what are they even going to do with all that time?" Crazy condescending. Good thing the staff of CT will never suffer from burnout, like us lowly humans. Maybe it's their turn to be like their beloved Mark Driscoll. I am only a peasant though. What could I understand of such matters.

@@BryanLeeDavidson I doubt they appreciate Mark and his brand/style. It seems to me that Mike and his group intended to discuss the theology of work and its merits. While I find that to be a valuable conversation, I don't think it's suitable to address it in response to a policy change regarding the legal definition of full-time work.

It's not suitable. It's why I made the Driscoll jab. I hope they feel that jab. I see over worked employees. Student with parents earning slave wages. People who don't get theses breaks. Where you are doing well to point to the policy. I see jobs ready to grind their workers down and cut off bottom10-20% yearly. Being so flippant, when people are not getting living wages is more than insulting, it's disgusting. Their God who is my God knows that. Earing overtime for over 32 hours of work will help families. More time for families, will help families. But maybe the those who are really affected by this, are people CT would never want to get to know. It was blind and heartless. I feel it should be called out.
