I Was WRONG About The Big O
Фильм және анимация
The Big O is a classic 1999 anime series that had a fascinating and somewhat rocky production history. It's loved by many to this day, including myself. But I didn't always feel that way. Here's my non-spoiler review of this underrated and misunderstood anime.

“Mecha James Bond”, that’s how I remembered it as a kid
I loved Big O. The only problem is the ending. I'm fine with an ambigious ending, but they were doing all this works building outside of the domes and hinting about why all the memories were missing, then end with no resolve. They hint that the world is all one sounds stage or they are in a matrix like system, and i wish they would have at least clarified more about the history of the megaduces.

All that time everyone was obsessed whit Eva so they felt ending animes whit ambiguous endings were cool.

The "memories" of the past are actually just previous versions of the show they're in. It seems destined to end in catastrophe every time, needing Big Venus to clean it up everytime.

Too little Schwarzwald. He was way more interesting than the main villain in the end.

Oh for sure. He was the most interesting villain.

It's just enough. 👌Whenever Schwarzwald's not on screen, the audience is asking "Where's Schwarzwald?" But when he does show up, it's mad hype every time. Michael McConnohie completely immortalized himself with this role as far as I'm concerned.
Big O was what if Bruce Wayne decided to pilot a giant mech instead of becoming Batman, and had a gynoid for a sidekick. Classic show. Shout out to your Dad.
I love Big O! It has such a good soundtrack along other things. One thing that bugged me is how they pronounced ‘Deus’ in the english dub as ‘Deuce’. I really wish my friends would watch it lol

Lol I know right. I'm about to drop a mega deuce in the bathroom. My friend and I used to make jokes about it. Didn't bother me too much, though. Loved the dub overall.
The Big O could be the title of an erotic anime. From the art direction it is obvious why this would appeal more to north american audiences. Probably the modern equivalent is Spy X Family which was very popular with non anime fans bcuz it felt less anime & more western cartoon.
I love how Dorothy was a Kuudere before Kuudere was a thing. Same with Roger being a low key Tsundere with the way he gets flustered around Dorothy.
it took me 3 watchings to get it. then i fell in love w/it.after that i soooo much wanted a season 3. "You're a louse Roger Smith" -R. Dorothy Wayneright
Norman and Alfred was voiced by the same actor.

Ah, how did I miss that. Makes a lot of sense.
I watched this on Cartoon Network and was one of the many who clamored for a second season. I ended up having to find it on DVD to watch the whole thing and loved the ending. Then again, I'm really into psychological study type shows like this, like Utena: The Movie & Gantz.

Lesser known series by Studio bones are pretty good.
I loved this show back in the day. Even my dad liked it and he hates anime usually. Pity season 3 never happened. Cartoon Network did try to get a 3rd season made, to expand on the last episode but Sunrise wasn't interested in making it, as it wasn't well received in Japan at all and it wasn't worth their while to do so.
It's funny that you mentioned the Batman connection. Steve Bloom actually played Batman in an animated short. I can't remember the name, but it had something to do with Lucius Fox developing a bulletproof belt.
I always liked this oddball show. I was really glad they made a second season.
Watched the show a few years ago for the first time and thought is was a blast espically the soundtrack lol! I reccomend checking out the manga it gives a somewhat more conclusive ending also sorry about your dad❤😓 Last time i checked the whole series is on youtube thats how i watched it 👍

Thanks, man! I found most of the series on KZread, but a few episodes were missing so I had to hunt them down elsewhere. I'd love to check out the manga for sure. My dad's been gone for a long time, so it's no big deal. There are just those random things that hit me every once in a while. This was one of them.
I don't understand how some people can be like "I'm so confused by the ending. I have no idea what happened or what it all means...but I loved it." Its very strange. Needless to say, I did not like this show. But if others did, that's great. Happy for them. I just find it a bit bewildering.
We need a season 3 dang it 😢
HOW DO YOU ONLY HAVE 210 SUBS this is an amazing video!

Wow, thanks so much. Nothing special here, but I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)
The best English dub I've seen, bar none, is Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. The original was solid enough, but the sub adds that certain special something.
The fact that you weren't sold on "Batman with giant robots" makes me instantly doubt your old self's taste. (also the taste of Japan)
To me, I did think it was a Batman rip at first, but I had been into anime at that time and once I watched this, I abandoned Batman. It took me 20 years to watch Batman again.
I see lupin the third more than Batman

I can't remember much of this show, but just watching your discussion is flooding me with random emotions I can't exactly describe. Which I think is a testament to how amazing a job they did telling a story. Some 20 years later, I still have an emotional resonace to the show despite having little memory of it. From what I do remember of the show, this is highly fitting. It makes me think of Galaxy Expressway 999, in that it flies under the radar today, but deserves to be on the shelf next to Akira and My Neighbor Tutoro as being the height of what this artform can acheive. Fun video! Thanks!
This show is truly epically amazing 😻 but what twists my knot is trying to buy the second season on dvd u can but it’s only four episodes that’s crazy as hell 🤨💖
