It was canceled after S1 in Japan, but it had alot of traction in America (and this is when anime and Toonami REALLY began to take hold in the US) and thanks to Cartoon Network teaming with Bandai we got a second season, and the animation was crisper, BUT the plot left too many holes unclosed at the end. Maybe the city was reset many times, we can't confirm how long passed, But in the end, it is understood that cities are all constituted, and the existence of time is not very meaningful. We just need to know that the city has its real creator (director )and that everything is just a set up(history, memory). Although this ending will be very annoying to some people, I thought Big O points out a kind of confusion, that is, how to confirm that people exist in the present, and how to face it if everything is just a setup.
