    There is more where that came from! Since the movie has quotes and references to Nietzsche all over, I believe it's impossible to understand it without reading him. Here's another example: "He has a reason WHY will suffer through almost any HOW" or "Ultimately, it is the desire, not the desired, that we love" Which is why, in my interpretation, Homura did what she did. After taking Madoka back, she simply left her as is. She didn't try to have any relationship with her, and perhaps that is no wonder given how different Madoka is from her. From Homu's perspective, Madoka is just a 14 year old child. Even during the run of the original series people were asking "why is she going so far for someone she knew only two months?" "Is it obsession? What the hell?" Perhaps it is obsession, indeed, but it's also LOVE. Literally love, a selfish love, love for it's own sake, love which doesn't need consent nor reciprocation since it's self-sustaining. ...as proven, also, by Clara Dolls. If you read Children of the Lost City booklet you'd see that there are lines there such as "this feeling is ours alone", or "I want that radiance locked up forever" You see, in my view of things, Clara Dolls are the "building blocks" of Homura's personality, an expression of her subconsciousness. They also tie back to Nietzsche nicely.

    The way I see it, Homaru was constantly fighting an uphill battle: She was born with a heart disease. She was shy and insecure and it got so bad that she made another person the focus of her life. She never really got her wish granted (being strong enough to protect Madoka does not equal getting to TRY and protect her). She was the only magical girl without an offensive power; She was the only magical girl who's power was severely limited (She can only stop time so many times and she can only rewind time a month). But in the end, this girl who was always the underdog turned the tables on life and took control of EVERYTHING, so she could overcome her struggle and make the person she loves happy. Because of that, Homaru is one of the most unique and inspirational characters I've come across. God bless and love that deeply loving Devil and give her lots of kisses and sweets on Valentine's and White day.

    She became what is known as Evil, but she didn't become a villain. She fulfilled her wish of protecting Madoka absolutely by rewriting the world so that Madoka wasn't a magical girl and couldn't become a magical girl, and so the Law of The Cycle is still in effect. When Madoka begins to realize she's a goddess, Homura stops her, which indeed is wrong, but it's to keep both of them happy. If she had become a goddess, would Madoka really be happy or fulfilled? Sure, Homura did some bad things, but she isn't a bad person.

    devil homura she most likely created a multiversal witch labyrinth do to the Clara dolls and those bird familiars still existing and it seems more like she separated madoka mind from her power the law of cycles still exists it just impossible for one to find it do to the new realty aka witch labyrinth is like a prison or the physical world in Gnosticism she is more like a demiurge in nature The concept of a Demiurge is that it is an artisan figure responsible for the fashioning and maintenance of the physical universe, but not the true creator deity. Though it is commonly depicted as willfully ignorant of the spiritual universe, the Demiurge itself and the material it uses to create and fashion the universe are considered uncreated and eternal or copies of the product of another being, depending on the system. In some of these systems, it and the rest of the material universe will be sent to Hell, where it will become the judge and torturer of the damned.

    Madoka would have been fullfilled, I'm tired of the fandom acting like madoka made some impulsive decision to become a goddess. She was the only one to see what being a magical girl is truly like and what that means we literally saw her have this conversation with mami when she was still alive, showing that she was thinking about this since the early stages of the show even after being told that nobody would remember or know of her existence. When she makes the wish she even takes a deep breathe and pauses to make sure she is clear in her wish. That horrified expression that she has when homura rips her apart is not one of happiness and when homura rewrites everything madoka remarks that she feels something is missing, that is not something someone would say if they're truly happy with everything. The simple fact that one of the main reasons homura knew she turned into a witch is that madoka said that she would never sacrifice herself if it caused homura pain. It's literally one of madoka's key themes, that she loves the world and people so much that she'll sacrifice herself for it. Homura love for madoka is not love, it's obsession, which is something that's understandable (considering madoka saved her and is her first friend and implied crush) but should not be glorified as homura having done madoka a favour. Her love is obsession as she doesn't see madoka as a person capable of making her own decision even if those decisions hurt homura. Because in her mind madoka is this person that would never do anything to hurt her and even sacrifice herself for her, she doesn't want to see madoka as someone who would make self-sacrifices at expense of her own misery. We see homura worship madoka as a God and seeing herself as madoka's Knight or priestess which isn't healthy. Compare this to how the others still treat madoka as their friend despite her being a goddess now, this shows how homura doesn't think of madoka as a person but more as a concept only caring about what madoka represents to her ( love, friendship, connection etc) this is why homura prefers to watch at a distance not really interacting with her on a personal level. And I understand why and how painful it must have been for homura to see madoka die over and over again carrying the guilt that she unknowingly caused madoka's and her own suffering by tying madoka to the concept of time. But those are reasons not justifications for homura bad treatment of madoka. You guys treat madoka the same way homura treats and view madoka, a naive girl incapable of making her own decision that needs someone else to make them for her. One of the major themes in the show and movies, is agency and consent. Something that homura regularly violates when it comes to madoka, which what makes her character tragic, helplessly trying to save the same person over and over again while unknowingly causing their and her own suffering.

  • @BlueSaved
    @BlueSaved8 жыл бұрын

    [Spoilers ahead...] Hm, the more I watch the movie, the more I can see that Homura is now a perversion of a very noble desire. She wanted to protect someone that cared for her, which became her sole mission. Madoka then became her purpose for living and a way to maintain sanity, an anchor of sorts, while taking actions that would normally drive any person insane (repeating a timeline over and over, watching people die, etc.) Madoka is someone she sincerely wants to protect, but she has been forced to realize that Madoka has a will of her own and will sacrifice herself if left to her own devices. So, Homura did everything in her power to keep the incubators away from Madoka, but in the end, became a manipulative, controlling party in her own right. She seems to think that they only way Madoka can be happy is to eliminate the need for the Law of Cycles to exist, erase everyone's memories, and take on the duties of the Law of Cycles herself. She's erasing everyone's free will in order to achieve this, even though she realizes its wrong to do so. And although she is a villain of sorts, she's punishing herself as well. She has taken on a huge burden; becoming "evil", managing the order of a new world, and turning all of the people she cares for against herself. Quite a sad, twisted character...

    I've been going around watching a lot and i mean a *lot* of puella videos, and I keep seeing all of these comments about the show and theories, along with people talking about life. I think this is because this anime in particular connects with its fans on a deep emotional level. Most of us have probably not gone back in time to save our best friend over and over for 12 years, but a lot of us will and have gone to hell and back for them, or have gone through a heartwrenching experience, giving us an idea of how painful it must be for Homura. Thanks for listening to my comment about life.

  • @pinkribbons1943
    @pinkribbons19437 жыл бұрын

    (Note: spoilers, also Homura is one of my faves so this isn't meant to come across as bashing.) I think Homura's the ''determinator, will do anything to protect the one she loves'' character taken to a plausibly dark conclusion, but she isn't a typical yandere...I think it's more complex than that. Even in the main series, her desire to protect Madoka seemed like a noble goal, but it made her become quite desensitised to everyone else's suffering. She flat-out admitted in episode 6-7 (I think?) to Sayaka that she didn't give a damn about anyone but Madoka; yes, she might have been bluffing, but she was going to KILL Sayaka right there and then so Madoka wouldn't have to see her turn into a witch, so I think it's safe to assume that there was SOME truth in that statement. Earlier than that, even though Homura DID try to warn Mami about Charlotte, she wasn't very affected afterwards, taking the grief seed without a second thought. And all her interactions with Mami prior to that were basically trying to talk her out of befriending Madoka. Even though she was prepared to distance herself from Madoka, she is still the 'selfish' love to Madoka's 'selfless' love: like I said, not a typical yandere, but a different take on the character archetype that would go through hell and back for one person. That archetype is usually portrayed as 100% heroic and noble with no ulterior motives and will rarely come out too scarred once they've fulfilled their goal. Homura's case is more realistic, in my opinion. After all Homura did to prevent Madoka from becoming a magical girl, it just turned out that she was making her best friend's fate even worse with each timeline, and the problem was only solved when Madoka did what Homura was trying to prevent in the first place. And I think that Homura DID have an ulterior motive: for Madoka to live a normal life, and possibly, maybe, befriend her again. But Madoka became a concept, meaning that although she could watch over her loved ones forever, that dream became impossible. Personally I think the ending to the series was perfect (grimdark, 'madokami is just euthanising magical girls' theories aside) and I don't agree with Homura's actions at the end of Rebellion, but I appreciate the development/complexity it gives to her character. After all she went through, I can't blame her for them...I just hope she realises what she's done and can have a happy ending with everyone else. ("But in the flower field scene Madoka said..." that was an AMNESIAC Madoka, after Homura had described the Law of Cycles as a horrible, lonely fate. Of course she'd say no to that, that's what she would have said in episode one before she went through character development!)

    She is a deeply tragic person who honestly probably needed to let other people besides Madoka in. It was pure at the beginning in my opinion, but there came a point where it became selfish. I likewise hope that in the end, that they all can find a happy ending together.

    Nice commentary. To me too, the ending seems completely logical (though somewhat selfish) from Homura's point of view. I only wish the producers gave more of a hint that Homura might have been planning her "betrayal" action at some point. She constantly appeared to be respecting Madoka's wish, even when talking to herself.

    Homura did care about the others, but as she continued through the timelines, she began losing hope for them, completely losing faith in them after the timeline where they all killed each other. Sayaka was always hostile to Homura in some way, even when she was still a shy girl, so it makes sense she wouldn't give a shit about Sayaka after several of those encounters. Homura literally saw Mami murder Kyoko with no hesitation and then tried to kill her next, forcing Madoka to kill her senior in retaliation. Homura stated herself in Rebellion she never felt comfortable around Mami, which is understandable as how would you feel if you sat next to a friend that you know is capable of snapping and murdering everyone in the room with no hesitation? Kyoko is arguably the only girl Homura has some sympathy, as though Homura is stand-offish when Kyoko attacked Sayaka, she still went out of her way to ask for her help in defeating Walpurgisnacht. And when Kyoko died in the original series, Homura was seen lamenting.

    I think a key part to a yandere, is a possessiveness that make them want to isolate the object of their affection. As well as their object being in no real danger but them believing they are and that they need to "save" them. However in the case of Homura, their is a REAL and PALPABLE force trying to hurt madoka, Kyube and the other incubators. She shows very little want to isolate madoka form her friends. She never goes on the attack to kill syaka or Mami, or even kyoko. She never kid naps madoka tho GOD KNOWS it would go MILES to keep her safe. She rips out the madoka part of the law of cycles becuase she knows if anyone could remember she was the goddess of the law of cycles, they could target her and send them all back to the olds days of witches and grief seeds. Given the very REAL danger to her friend. I don't think homura is AS crazy as everyone thinks she is. Still quite unhinged. But not yandere levels of unhinged. She is a 14-15 ish old girl wresting against predatory emotionless space ferrets trying to form magic "contracts" with little girls to rip out their souls and harvest their suffering as energy to prevent the heat death of the universe. Is it really crazy to take on a "I can't save them all, just the pink one then." attitude?

    Jasey Rae she did try saving her friends numerous times, but it’s their own fault for not trusting Homura and getting their own selves killed. Madoka didn’t want to be a goddess which would’ve taken her away from her family and loved ones. Homura did all this for Madoka who asked her “go back in time and save me from my stupidity,” Meaning she told Homura to stop her from becoming a magical girl. Jeez Homura is painted as selfish and a villain because “she can’t move on” she made a promise and if you made such a promise to friend or a loved one you would keep it and die trying to save them from such a fate. The role of the villain is something she accepted in order to save Madoka. 🙄

    Madoka: says "don't do this to me". Homura: do this to her. It's easy to understand that Homura actually is wrong, no matter how understandable her choice was. She suffered too much. I can't imagine how painful it must have been to see the one she loves die a hundred times, but was wrong to ignore Madoka's will and do that to her against her consent. And yes, Homura's act was selfish, because love is selfish.

    mage7 Homura has admitted to being evil, it is not a facade. She made a decision to which she knew the consequences and does not regret it. She has ruined the hope of all magical girls. Along with that Homura's motivation is not that no one remembers Madoka but rather that she cannot be with her, which isn't the case as when taken by the law of cycles (AKA Madoka) a magical girl will always be with Madoka for the rest of her existence. Also she has shown no regret and no self loathing at all. If she has though please reference the point in the movie in which it shows so that I can see it for myself.

    how ca she be egotistical and self loathing at the same time? no i believe that homura wanted to see madoka returned to her former self as she always told her to remain as she was before madoka made her wish homura was fulfilling her role in being the one to save madoka even if that meant saving her from herself homura than reformatted the universe and took upon herself the burden of madoka responsibilities as a god she does it all out of her love and reverence for her only true friend possibly the only true friend she's ever had her badass facade is put up to hide the pain she is enduring for madoka

    i believe evil cant even apply to a character at this point in philosophical discourse as evil is a trait to be applied subjectively. furthermore she never specifically said she was evil she simply stated that she had become a demon the context was that she had become a demon because only a demon could or would pull god from heaven which is pretty much what madoka had become a god.

    Love is equally Good and Evil as the emotions are never only good or only evil, always a mix of the two. I think we can now be sure that Madoka(the real one, with her memories back) and Homura will never see each other happily again, Homura choose a path and she's walking it. Actually, Homura knows that her relation(which ever kind that was) with Madoka will never ever come back, she has no interests in the normal Madoka. The love Homura feels is for herself alone.

    All Magical Girl are fueled by love. Love for themselves, love for life, love for the world, love for humanity, love for their friends, love for their families, and much more. Love is the single most powerful force in the universe. As long as a Magical Girl bear love in her heart, nothing can truly stop her. From Madoka, to Usagi, Utena, Sakura, Doremi, Mami, and all the way back to Samantha, they are all fueled by the pinacle of human emotion. The love of a Magical Girl weaves the very threads of the universe, bending space and time to its tyranny. From the bottom of our hearts, our love will create and put ablaze countless worlds.

    For me Homura always was the character that symbolizes the greatest love a person could have for somebody else. She loves Madoka dearly and tried to protect her to change her fate and be finally reunited with her. But then Madoka changed everything: She changed her own fate and didn't end dead or as witch, but she also lost her humanity and become a goddess to safe all magical girls. Homura didn't want to part and became a witch herself, so she could be with Madoka again, because Madoka's new responsibly is to take all magical girls with her so no witch would exist anymore. Then Kyubei apears and he tried for himself to keep Madoka. Together they escaped from Homura's labyrinth, but Homura must have realized that she would never have that life with Madoka what she have always wanted. Her own labyrinth showed that her greatest wish is not only to have Madoka with her, but also to live with her like she always wanted to. So she turned in some kind of devil, striped Madoka of her position as goddess and captured her in a new world order. What Homura did was to fulfill her greatest wish and desire, but because it's something like a sick love the music plays this dark side good in form and makes the scene more devil. That Homura did something wrong she must have realized, so she changed the universe not completly. She told Sayaka that she only changed that part in that Madoka was in, so she still saves all magical girls from their cruel fate as witches.

The traumatic time travel powers had stripped everything away from her to the point that her love had twisted into a selfish obsession that she cannot reason with. Now that she has become a god, she can finally have her life under control in any way way she dictates. Madoka's wish was sacrifice: to end the suffering of all witches, everywhere, she had to give everything she had for her wish. Homura's wish was selfish: to be with the one she loved, someone who doesn't exist anymore, she had to tear apart the universe and her loved one with it. The nature of their wishes, so powerful and so opposite to one another, naturally caused them to assume forms that were diametrically opposed. Honestly, I preferred it when god was just dead

Is true that could do any thing "worrying" if it can be called so, but at no time intended to do harm to anyone (except to Kiubey, since all arches required Madoka to become a magical girl) all aimed at was to save her from despair. so bad is it? *Sorry for my English, is that not be much^^*
