I think my favorite thing about this anime is that it's got the perfect amount of shit going wrong. Most times, people write stories with happy endings, and when they don't, the stories are usually written so that it's really depressing how literally nothing goes right and it's so obvious that it's what they're going for. Madoka Magicka takes the approach of having things go wrong and not having a perfectly happy ending, but not make it seem like the universe is centered around keeping the main cast down. I think it's a fragile balance that this team has really nailed.

The ending is definitely not cheerful, but I would say it's as happy as is possible. The girls are forever free from the curse, and Homura has eternity to look forward to in Madoka's new heavenly world.

I wasn't really an Anime fan before watching this show, sure I did watch some well known anime like Cowboy Bebop, Fist of the Northstar and so on But nothing brought me to tears or moved me more than this show; The story, the characters, the music, all perfect. When I first saw a poster for madoka magica, i thought it was some sailor moon clone, but when I saw people giving it high praise, i was curious and decided to watch it, hands down in my top 5 anime of all time

There's actually a game scenario where they all fight together, in Mobile. If I'm not mistaken Mobile's game scenarios are all canon, since the ones that aren't the normal one all end with Homu resetting the timeline. Anyway, to get them all happy and alive, Homu has to basically fix their lives, what costs training time. That results in Homura simply watching them to see they stood no chance against Walpurgis as they were, and resets the timeline. Without despair, magical girls aren't much, apparently.

i love how this soundtrack is really beautiful, but there's a dark, sinister undertone to it. it makes you want to dance, but leaves you feeling cold. it represents madoka magica so well-- being a magical seems so right at first, but when one delves deeper, the reality of it is horrifying.

Me then: "This anime looks just like a more modern version of Sailor Moon." Me now: *I watched this years ago, yet it still gives me existential crisis* "Is this world real? Am I real? Am I living a lie? Is someone coming to save me or am I supposed to save someone else? I'm going insane, aren't I...?"

Fighting endlessly. Watching loved ones die before your eyes. Watching people you have befriended be killed right in front of you and having to continue without the privilege of being able to grieve. Being able to watch someone rot from the inside out and going from an innocent lovable soul to a demonic witch, that can screw up anyone. Homura knew she had no chance but she kept going. Fighting an endless battle for Madoka because she knew that if she stopped she would succumb to depression and become a witch and Madokas fate would remain unchanged. Homura did this from age 14 till she was 26. Homura was a true friend who never stopped fighting over and over. She will be missed.

All of the Magical girls suffered a terrible fate, yet each was unique and had their own reasolve. Sayaka probably had the saddest ending of them all. She became emotionally detached. She wanted to be a hero of justice and help others, but in the end despair enveloped her soul. Mami had the most gruesome ending of the girls. Just after making a friend with Madoka she met her untimely fate. Kyouko perhaps the most overlooked and unloved character. she had the appearance of someone whom is arrogant , but deep down needed help. Seeing her father murder her family then take his own life ruined her original dream. What she saw in Sayaka made her remember the resolve she originally had when she became a magical girl. Homura became a distorted character from going back and forth through time. All she wanted was to save the person most important to her, that was her wish. Spending over 8 years reliving that month trying to find a way to do it. That's why I understand what she did at the end of Rebellion, that was the only way out. Madoka maybe suffers the worst fate of them all. She did save Magical girls from becoming witches, but in turn she became a concept with no past or future. Forgotten by everyone except one, having made the ultimate sacrifice for the universe she became a God.

Madoka magica is up in my top ten fav anime I highly recommend watching it because it's not just a magical girl series, it's much more than that. It's deep , each character has a struggle , there's despair and real emotion. Madoka magica is a deconstruction of the mahou shoujo realm and is more than meets the eye.

I just love this picture so much, it makes the song sound even more beautiful, and the way the Magical Girls hold one another's hands as they follow Madoka gives me the feeling that she's leading them to a beautiful new world where they will live eternity together and will never feel suffering or grief ever again.

This is the best anime I have ever seen. It was also my first anime, it's been 3 years since I first saw it and I still tear up every time I hear a song or reference to it.

Based on how the girls are holding hands, it’s how close they are to Madoka. Mami is behind Homura to symbolize Mami’s belief that Homura is trying to stop Madoka from being a magical since she’s too strong. Kyoko is holding Sayaka’s hands to try to stop Sayaka from becoming a witch and falling into despair. I’d say Homura and Sayaka are definitely the closest to Madoka in terms of all the timelines. Or maybe I’m overthinking it!

Watching this anime was an essay of feelings, I cried, laughed, and had feelings I've never had before. I can't explain how much I love this anime, but I truly can say, that this anime is something very special te me. There are poeple who do not understand the overflow of feelings I had watching puella magika. I wouldn't care if you said that you didn't like it, but accept, that this one, well, nothing could ever be better than this anime. So yeah watch this anime and have fun with it. And do not give up after the first episodes!!That is my hint for today.~

I wanted to watch Madoka Magica because i thought it was bubbly and cute and when i watched it i was wrong... I thought im gonna like it but.... I LOVED IT! It made me cry! Its pretty awesome! After finishing the anime, I'm currently in a pit of sadness. It's so true! The message it's trying to give really makes you question everything! What an anime, am I right?

3. The music is positively unbelievable. Seriously, I just listen to it when I want to feel awesome. 4. It is incredibly meaningful. It's not a meaningless anime that can simply be disregarded when you're done with it. It keeps your attention and you need to think on it. There are mysteries and surprises and plot twists galore. 5. It's an emotional anime and you really feel for each character in their turn, when things go wrong. Seriously, this is better than anything else I've ever seen.

Actually it's Kajiurago(or Kajiuranese), a faux language the composer, Kajiura Yuki created and uses in her songs, not just PMMM songs. She created/uses it because it sounds good, it has no real meaning.

Even episode 2 isn't what is expected, but the shocks continue throughout. Honestly, I got chills more than one while watching this anime, and I love it!

This song gives off an elegant vibe at first, but when you keep listening to it you can hear all the Puella Magi screaming for help because they're trapped in an endless labyrinth.

I love this. It just makes me speechless. You can very clearly feel both the sadness and the hope in it, which is just outstanding. That piano at 2:08 reminds me of Ludovico Einaudi! So cool.

I've just watched 2 episodes ... I usually hate animes that revolve around girls. But this one is completely different. I can see the potential it has. Not sure if it'll enter my top 5 by the end, but it's definitely going to be one of those series' that I'll remember forever. Another note I want to make is: I've never heard such good music in anime. I can only appreciate it.

Fabian Kaufmann Loved the show :D It's one of few 10/10 animes in my list. And I've still got an OST (Magika OST/BGM 03 should bring results in KZread) as my ringtone :) It's ranked #6 though in my list. Code Geass, FMAB, One Piece (for other reasons), HxH and Steins Gate are ranked higher.

Listening to any Madoka OST makes me both sad and happy at the same time. I always cry at how beautiful they are.

i just listened to this whole song and cried this is such a beautiful mind-blowing series that twists your expectations and ends up being much better than you thought

I'm so happy when I see projects like this and its so obvious that the people who made it cared about it and did their best. Even this theme song fits the story perfectly. It starts out calm and innocent, builds up and gets serious, energetic and then dies down and ends as innocently as it began, but a bit sadder this time. I don't normally like anime, but holy shit, this one has so much to offer.

i've watched this anime almost 5 times already.... i still love every second of it (especially the music)

Can someone give me several reasons to watch this series? How good is the writing, the story line, characters, etc.? EDIT: I just finished up the series...oh boy, what an ending.

I really like it as well, but you aren't really going to find any dissenting opinions on a video like this--have you also asked those who are not fans why they don't like it? You might want to do so in order to get a balanced opinion. Also, as mentioned above, you could also check out review videos and such. Usually they include at least a few positive AND negative elements. It wouldn't give you a completely balanced perspective, but it would be better than only asking people on this video. Enjoy it if you decide to see it!! :)

1. Its very dark 2. the first 2 episodes are a piece of crap 3. Kyubey is not what you think he is 4. best magical girl anime ever created 5. you cant stop watching 6.The ending is awesome!!!! 7. its classical but not.

At first I was thinking "Cute magical girls who fight? Alright." Then I started to really like the story after the first few episodes. It starts to turn into the dark side to becoming a magical girl. Love the story. It gives you all the sad feels. The soundtrack is great and epic. I loved it. I find the witch fighting pretty epic. The ending is pretty awesome, makes you sad but really awesome.

Adri Din 5 months reply is strange and all, but I don't think the first 2 episodes were crap. I feel like they were a great way to get the audience to lower their guard, thinking that it would be another typical mahou shoujo anime, but the pacing could've been better at the start aye

I started watching this because of Precure going downhill recently. Should I thank Toei for making Precure into a generic magical girl?I wish even kids anime could be a bit more deep and dark, not as much as Madoka Magica, but years ago it was more common for kids anime to be dark, like Chirin no Suzu (that thing is depressing) now everthing is overly cute and happy...and most of the time about idols and fashion, with no emotion and just aiming at selling toys, and originality died...

Madoka magic made me yearn for better story telling in everything instead of the usual generic. I lost interest of precure cuz of madoka. Tokyo mew mew has its own thing to it to make it stand out. Precure is pretty much Sailor moon on steroids. Mermaid melody its in the name. Shugo chara is very good at psychological stuff. (Precure does not now stand well on its own in my opinion cuz madoka magic came out).

I liked the precure with the blue princess though. Past precure go characters lost development and story. She actually develops from a shy scaredy cat to a brave ruler type.

Well, there's the United States of The Last Airbender, Adventure Time, Steven Universe, and Gravity Falls if you want to see some awesome and some messed up things in a kid's show. While the West has plenty of bad cartoons, there have also been a rise of quality cartoons in the last decade. Just something to look into of anime tropes are bringing you down lately.

I think, before you judge Madoka Magica as a shallow anime/movie compared to others, you should watch the three movies. Though the first two are just replays of the 12-episode anime, for me, I think that the third movie is enough for you to already call it a masterpiece. :) (and I died 10M times after watching the third movie T-----T)

Ahh, Madoka Magica, something I thought would be like Sailor moon, but turned out to be the darkest and most confusing anime I’ve ever watched

Shaft did an amazing job. Most people who start the series know Madoka will become a magical girl, but just how the show makes her one is amazing. They trick us, fool us, making us wonder when she'll become a magical girl then once the show enters its conclusion, we suddenly change our minds. We beg for her not to become one, but we all knew from the start, Madoka was to become one.
