Well, in Rebellion she's in the Spotlight while in the Anime she start's being a mysterious side character moving more and more to the center of attention at the end (one reason is because of the plot, the other is that she and Madoka where literally the only interesting characters left after the others died.......not counting the incubators) so I kinda get why some people take longer to realize it

  • @Thomas_Name

    @Thomas_Name

    5 жыл бұрын

That's just because Madoka is so quiet and unassuming that she doesn't catch the viewers attention untill after the others die and the battle Homaru and the Incubators wage for her soul is revealed to be the catalyst for everything. But in the end the story indeed is mostly about Homaru's love for Madoka and the goal she takes upon herself because of that love.

I love rebellion because in the end, homura completes the promise she made to madoka in one of the past timelines. She promised madoka to save her from becoming a magical girl, so in rebellion that’s what she did. She stripped madoka of her godhood in order for her to become human again, replacing her memories and rewriting the universe so she wouldn’t suffer as a magical girl anymore. Her promise became her drive and her love/devotion her obsession. After all she had promised to save madoka from her foolishness and not allow her to be deceived by incubator and in rebellion she does just that, in the only way she sees possible, making madoka human again.

Madoka Magica "Fun" fact: Each one of Homura's timelines ran from March 16 to May 1. Thats a total of 46 days per timeline. The director stated that Homura went through a number of timelines that was approaching 100. 8 timelines gives you a little over a year. 12 times 8 is 96, so near 100. and 358 times 12 is... 4,416. Homura spent about 4,461 days, or 12 years, in the same timeline trying to save Madoka. So please don't criticize Homura for what she did in Rebellion, but think about how many times she failed trying to save her friends, and how many times she watched all of them die.

When you realize that Homura was the Protagonist of the story the whole time, and embodied, "You either die the hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain." Let's all not forget that Homura was fighting an uphill battle in trying to save Madoka; every reset made Madoka, and by extension Walpurgis, significantly more powerful. Homura was a strategic, tactical, and combat genius, to even put up a fight against what amounted to a New Game +4,461 without the powers the other girls have.

Even though we don't know for sure the extent of the changes that were made with Homulily's universe reconfiguration, it doesn't seem to be bad for Magical Girls. I actually disagree with a lot of people on this being an unnecessary continuation of the anime. Homura was never really okay with Madoka's fate, and her criticism of her martyrdom is pretty logical. Homura was always a pretty selfish person to begin with, but also... She's a teenage girl. It doesn't matter the cumulative time she's spent looping she has the developed mind of a literal teenage girl. The trauma has fucked her over completely so it absolutely makes sense that she would say "fuck you got mine" when she gets the chance to get Madoka back. I think a lot of people forgot what it was like to be a teenager, but teens are little egotists. Everything is filtered through self examination and self expression and identity. I completely agree with you, but the thing I really hate about this movie is that even though Madoka never existed in that university before, according to Homura, in the ending of the Madoka Magica series, it's three years. So they all should be legal 17-year-olds but no day instead chose down to remainders same short 14-year-old teenagers who are illegal.

If you watched the movie with full attention though you will realize that Homura's last words to Madoka didn't mean she wanted to capture madoka all this time. Homura was the only one who knew what incubators were planning so her action as taking down the God back to Earth seemed as Devil work to other magical girls and disrespect to the law cycle. But in actuality if Homura did not release all of her love to her soul gem and capture Madoka, Madoka was going to be ultimately be defeated by incubators and be disbanded as a Law Cycle hence, bringing back all the despair of magical girl ( Turning back into a witch ). Kyubey did not understand why Homura would throw away her own salvation as a magical girl, her friendship with madoka and her only chance of being together with Madoka but little Kyubey ( incubators ) know is the original/the first timeline where Homura becomes a magica girl solely to protect madoka and become her shield ( even her magical weapon with time stop is all mainly created to protect madoka ). After Homura's plan as turning into a witch and be executed did not work because of Sayaka, Madoka, Mami, Bebe and Kyouko taking Homura back into the real world , Homura as her last resort used her significance and her love in past timelines to enchance her power to a God-like power and create a new world where magical girls don't exist so Madoka can live as a normal human being in a world that Homura created. As a result, in the end of movie when Homura said " I have been waiting for this all along " was actually a happy ending for madoka to live as a normal girl ( Homura's promise that she will going to stop Madoka from becoming a magical girl; Timeline 3 )

Homura had no choice. As always protecting Madoka is the #1 priority. It doesn't matter what it takes. It doesn't matter if she gets hated by everyone. it doesn't matter if she can only watch her from a distance, or even if her feelings won't be recognized by Madoka. People may hate rebellion but at least that way Homu Homu got her wish to be true. The season 1 ending was unsatisfying for me. I felt bad for Akemi, like her wish didn't matter. Everyone got what the wanted till a point. And Homura got what? A curse. She had to live in a world without her "world" and was obligated to protect it furthermore.

Was Homura left alone though? The last shot implies that Homura can still sort of sense Madoka's presence with her. Homura's trials definitely still continue, but she seemed to have the confidence to fulfill them. Its also not really implied that the other girls got what they wanted either (besides Madoka). Its just that Madoka saves them before they start cursing the world and become a witch. After all, it still showed Sayaka dying without getting what she wanted in the last episode too right? Mami, Kyoko, And Homura also all still suffer from Sayaka dying. This is just looking at the main series of course and ignoring rebellion for a moment. That said, I'm not hating on rebellion, rebellion is good too.

Ree you make a good point and thanks for your opinion. Elgatochurro of course it would be painful. But I guess what I am thinking of is the scene right at the end of the last episode. "Don't forget. Always somewhere someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember her, you are not alone." Then it shows madoka whispering to Homura and her smiling. That message along with that scene seems to me to say that we shouldn't think of Homura as alone. But thats just my interpretation of it.

"It's raining light" ("Hikari Furu"), played when Madoka saves all MGs - and then played again when she says that she never ever would leave such a life...aka when she's telln Hom and us the complete opposite. Because of the situation under the seal, when everything is normal and peaceful - however in that world, the absence of the Incubator is actually not normal. They gotta hide themselves because of Homura and her increasing power... ...I think Homura finally realizes this, finally realizes what Madoka, and actually all the others too, really want and need, and that only she can fulfil it...(she could make even the Incubator forget by simply rewinding time after all, so only she has enough power)...and maybe, or rather, most probably, she realizes this in that very moment... "You don't know how long I've been waiting for this" - that phrase therefore refers to "Instead of her protecting me, I wanna be strong enough to protect her"...THIS is what she was waiting for... (And since she was left in the hospital after birth - as we get to see in the collosseum, cause a witch's labyrinth always contains her past - and ended up in an orphanage which made her see a surrogate mother in Madoka...she maybe was even waiting for a true purpose in life...aka, she was perhaps weiting for this moment even for all of her life...)

It seems like the Rebellion movie has divided the fandom into half. At this point I don't even know what is wrong and what is right anymore. It's just hard to interpret. Homura is indeed selfish for tearing Madoka apart without asking her, but it was necessary as well because things would still in a very very bad situation if she didn't do so. Besides, Madoka might not happy as a God, but she's happy to sacrifice for others. Homura could have her happy ending with Madoka if she wanted to, but if she ascended to heaven just to stay by her side, the Incubators would have their hands on Madoka and that would mean Homura betraying her own wish. I don't think any of them are in the right. Madoka might be right, but saving Homura while knowing Incubators was after her? Yeah that's what we want but how about being a little bit smarter and learn to let go of that idea just for a bigger future? I mean, that's not what Homura wanted her to do, either, right? Once more Madoka let her kindness bring back trouble for her. These two make errors along their ways, causing tons of problems for each other. I don't feel like sacrificing one's self is a good idea, suffering for others is worth praising, but when it's figured out by others, I don't think they'll feel happy about it and it'll only be natural if your beloved ones try to stop you. It's true that sometimes kindness just leads to foolishness, like when Madoka went to save Homura while accidentally getting herself lured to a trap just like what the Incubators wanted. The director said the Incubators could control Madoka in that situation so I guess Madoka just brought another bigger issue when she tried to save Homura. Homura wasn't right to sacrifice everything for one person's sake, either, it's true that she needs to move on, but Madoka's decision just added more reasons for Homura to take actions. Both of them need to be slapped hard by reality. It's quite rare to see both main characters are not completely in the right or wrong. And for the first time, I guess, maybe the protagonist, I mean Madoka isn't really that perfect of a role model that we have to root for. She might have something to be fixed as well. The same goes for Homura. While Rebellion created somewhat a troublesome situation and... terrible to some people, it does indeed broaden the overall view and let we see a bigger picture. I think it's a genius move. Like while I keep hitting my head against the wall bc of how complicated the ending of Rebellion is, I just think of something that probably has never ever crossed my mind before. Instead of making you cheer for the protagonist's selfless decision( this is just a typical type of savior), or persuading you to root for a selfish action of the protagonist( you probably root for this kind of protagonist somewhere, Touma or Hodaka, eh?), they just give you both views and say "Consider it again". Madoka's kindness and Homura's selfishness- I don't know how this will play in the future but yeah, right now I don't think I have decided to root for any of those two. Let's see how things can be solved in the next sequel. That might be the time we know who's truly wrong or right. That should be the time when all of Madoka fans find the common ground as well, just like what Homura and Madoka will come to do in the end (of course after they beat each other to nearly exhausted).

She sacrificed her own salvation to free Madoka from the lonely burden of being a god...even if it is only temporary... Poor Homura. I understand why she did what she did. I'm in the "Homura is not evil, but she did the wrong thing"-camp. 1. Well, this one's up for debate. They did state she'll suffer from a fate worse than death, but she seemed pretty glad to finally have found her purpose. The only time she expressed otherwise when she told Homura that "She would be too much of a coward to leave everyone behind." But she said that while she was trapped in Homura's labyrinth that was basically a rendition of her perfect world, so of course she'd only say things that Homura would want to hear. 2. I doubt they'd succeed. I mean, Madokami and her followers saw right through the Incubators' trap in Rebellion and had plenty of countermeasures to foil their plans. So it's unlikely they'd find a way to control a god anytime soon. 3. To be fair, that's something we can't determine for sure, since we never really saw what the Homuverse is like. In the end, I think she was in the wrong because she ignored Madoka's wishes several times. Madokami told her to stop, but she went through with it. That gives off the impression that she doesn't really care what Madoka wants. Homura just assumes what she wants and thinks that it just happens to be the same thing she desires. I can't blame her for that, since love is powerful and all, but I'm no fan of the "you gotta force people to their happiness"-rhetoric.

@@SolvNia I mean yeah I don’t think what Homura did was 100 percent right but I don’t think it was necessarily wrong either. I think Madoka was happy to save magical girls but a part of her was indeed lonely and suffering. The director said what Madoka said in the flower garden are her true feelings at that time. Also her character song see you tomorrow kinda indicates her true feelings as well. Madoka did a noble and beautiful thing by her sacrifice but she was also backed into a corner as well and didn’t have many options. As for the law of cycles, you’re right about us not knowing a lot about Homuras world. That’s why I can’t definitively say she did ‘nothing wrong’ bc we don’t know much about her new world. Does the loc function and how so if Madoka is separated from it? We don’t know for sure. I think it does still function in some way because Homura mentions wraiths exist and not witches and that she only took a “piece” of the law of cycles. So I think the law of cycles is on autopilot. Either that or there is a god Madoka still saving magical girls and a human Madoka living on earth without her memories. But I’m not sure...that why I want another movie to confirm these things! But I just think if Madoka was suffering (which I think she probably was) and she gets to live her normal life again with her family like she deserves and her wish is still being honored so magical girls don’t become witches, then I think that’s a good thing. But I would like another movie to confirm how her world works and the law of cycles as well.

the reason why homura did what she did to madoka as because she legitimately went insane. timeline after timeline of seeing your best friend, and the person who was the most important to you, die in your arms over and over again without you being able to do anything to change their fate, will make you lose your mind. sadness, sorrow, anger, and confusion built up inside of her until grief consumed her and her soul gem, turning her into a witch. her love and compassion for madoka was so strong that all of her pain that built up after each timeline was so powerful that not only did she turn into a witch, she turned into a demon, and rewrote the laws of physics. she was able to finally have madoka in her arms, and without realizing the consequences that would follow, she took her. in all honesty, i feel horrible for homura, the amount of pain and emotional torture she experienced, alone, is enough to drive a person insane, and in this case, it did.

There were multiple reasons behind it-- but one of the main ones was that Kyubey was going to control Madoka if Homura did nothing (and she wanted Madoka to be happy). So she did something. Homura needs a psychologist.

with the announcement of the 4th movie finally out, I I have so many thoughts and feelings. I loved this show, and the movie. Of course there's critiques, but everyone has those! But I love, as much as it shocked me at first, what happened at the end of rebellion, of Homura, well, *gestures to the music* Yes, Homura finally fulfilled her wish; she saved madoka from her fate, from becoming a magical girl and being tricked by incubator. At the end, everyone looks happy, able to live their lives normally... but something is wrong. We saw it when Homura gave Madoka the tour. Madoka, unconsciously, knows something is wrong. Madoka is selfless, to the point of it being both her strength and her flaw... and she knows that this universe can't keep itself together. Entropy will most likely take its hold sooner or later. Even in Madoka's rewritten universe, there was a way for incubators to get energy, albeit far LITTLE energy, to counteract the entropic cycle. As far as we can tell, Homura doesn't have a 'failsafe' like that. Madoka gave everything to be a god, and even now it's still a part of her. It's like a puzzle, and someone stole a piece, and the puzzle is trying to fill itself once again. Because yes, this new universe is 'perfect'. It's kind, happiness, and a beautiful lie... but for Madoka, I think when she finally gets her memories and powers back, will be saddened and hurt by the lie. Everyone is happy, but in the end... what is the true cost? Because Homura will never be satisfied, despite her words and thoughts now. Her love had long become something more; pure fanaticism. And now she has Madoka in this new cage (as we've seen symbolized by the window with a ribbon tying it shut), and from what I heard (need to confirm it), Homura's powers in Madoka's created universe changed from time manipulation, to /memory/ manipulation, which we see her use on Sayaka. Who's to say she wouldn't tamper more with Madoka's than she already has? I can't wait for the new movie, and am excited and curious on how they're going to go about it!!!

People see yuri everywhere. But it isn't the case. Homura isn't "in love" with Madoka. At the very least, not in the romance sense. Love can be born from obsession. And Obsession is sometimes a consequence of love. However, they are NOT the same thing. Homura is only obsessed with saving Madoka for most of the series. When Madoka sacrifices herself, the obsession shifts to "bringing her back" because they are pretty much the same thing (at least in Homura's head). Yet I keep seeing people misunderstand their relationship.

Honestly I love this movie and especially this ending, for a variety of reasons. But my favorite reason has to be how thematically it makes sense. Entire show revolves around using common cliches to hide a dark twisted truth. The run of the mill monster of the episode turns out to be tragic souls of previous magical girls, fallen in despair. The cute mascot was the true villain of the series. In other anime corruption is common thing however when Kyoka and Madoka called out to witch Sayaka she would have came back. Not in this and Kyoka had to kill herself and Sayaka. Knowing this think about the clichest ending in anime especially magical girl anime ever. It's protag winning through love and friendship and in the end everyone is alive and happy. On surface that's what happened. Homura won through her love for Madoka and defeated Kyuubey who was the villain of the film. Everyone is alive and goes back to living their normal life. But in context it's completely twisted and fake. Homura pretty much crushed her own soul (specifically her soul gem) and became a demon that dethroned the God. She trapped the entire universe in her labyrinth and made a world that what she believes is happy. She did make a world where everyone especially Madoka got their happy ending however it's a shell of a world with fake happiness. I personally can't wait for the next movie and see where they go with this but also am satisfied with this ending for such a masterpiece of an anime

it's better this way. better than repeating each timeline with zero progress and zero answers to stop the madness, and still watch ur friend deceived by strange alien, die, and sacrifice herself to become a God. sounds egoistical to other people, but for homura, it's the only absolute answers to everything.

Lain had multiple personalities because of her Goddess status. What if, just like another comment pointed out, Madoka did know Homura was gonna pull something like this ? My theory is that due to her divine state as a being of a collective of consciousnesses, at least a part of Madoka (a more selfish one) knew this was gonna happen, while the dominant part of hers (the one that came to claim Homura), was left in the dark.

8 months since i last posted a comment. And I've had some thoughts and feelings since then. Recently rewatched the original series, and I noticed something at the end that I never did the first few times I watched it. I once thought, like many others, that Homura was a fool for telling Kyubey about the other reality. About Witches and Madoka... but as I watched that final episode, and watched the VERY ending... I realized something. She wasn't a fool. She was a god damned *mastermind* . She fucking planned the events of Rebellion. Maybe not quite forgetting who she was at first, and the labyrinth itself, but she knew what she was doing. When Homura jumps off the building, her magic creates wings to soften her landing. But at the end, she's in a dessert, and jagged wings are shown forming behind her as he jumped into the incubator's 'trap'. Those wings? were made out of _curses_ . We see the same image and pattern when Sayaka's gem is about to burst into a grief seed. The moment she decided to tell Kyubey about Madoka, she had a plan the whole time. And while she may have forgotten it while she was in the Labrynth, a part of her still knew. Hence the name of this piece. because she had been plotting, scheming... _Waiting._
