    I enjoy the discussion between northern fluke jigging with insta set and the more southern tactic of letting them situate it in their mouth. For me the fun is in feeling/watching the line on the bite, waiting a couple seconds, then BILL DANCING that sucker

    long story shot, keep a little slack in your light, feel/see your line tap, then slowly reel up until there's a little pressure, then jack them. I also use a lighter rod and you really have to wait then nail it

    Good one again man. Going to St George an you just made my mine up on flounder. Pompano an others on the surf but flounder mess with me an that's my target. Got one last year one the beach 19 1/2 an lost a bigger . But that skr stuffed with lump crab was money . Made my week after 3000$ for a rental. One fish made my week totally. Of course family time. .

    Will flattening the hook barb, to get a deeper hook set, reduce the number of fish that throw the hook?

    I’m no expert, but if you’re flounder fishing, you need to slow down your retrieve… you’re fishing your jig too fast. If you think you’re fishing slow enough, slow down.

    OK, I like this game: Diawa sv tw 150. Cajun Savanah 6'6" heavy casting. 30 pound braid to a 5 foot piece of p-line 15 pound mono leader. Lightest jig heads I can get away with, almost always 1/4 - 1/8 ounce.

    Love your channel, will always tune in for Flounder! I caught a 22 incher last Thursday, so glad they are here. Any chance your setting the hook just a tad to fast? I don't want much longer, maybe just a second ot two, but you seem to set the instant you feel the bite. Lastly do you put a scent gel on your hoodwink?

  • @southernsalt

    @southernsalt

    @southernsalt it's early in the year. Hard not to be over eager. I have been waiting for someone to develop a good soft plastic for flounder with a pocket for some smelly gel. I know they bite well without, but I am convinced that flounder like a scented bait.
