Never thought I'd wait 4 hours to eat a bowl of ramen before midday 😂 Also side note - the rankings for the Tabelog foodie website are constantly changing, so this ramen restaurant was at number one in Japan for ramen previously, but it's changed to number 2 now.

From what time you started, how many people were there, how the list works and even what happened to people that came later. Of course the food itself was well documented and looked delicious. Hoping to try on my next trip. Also, is it that you “cant” eat shrimp or that you “wont” eat shrimp? 😝

I was thinking I'd never line up but then again I'm going to Kitakata one of these days just to try the ramen up there. Right now I'm on my yearly Japan trip and I think the best food is is in Hokkaido and Kagoshima and I bet you could find better ramen in some odd out-of-the-way place hours from Tokyo. But what do I know? Tokyo food for me has been so hit and miss. Random places in Kagoshima have been exceptional this year. Additionally, everyone in Kagoshima has been really chatty and friendly. One of the reasons I daydream about moving here.

I really enjoyed all the nonverbal body language exchanges from 8:47 to 8:55 … a good reminder that communication not only depends for context on paralanguage - on gestures, tone, pauses, sighs, and facial expressions - but that communication can even consist entirely of it. It’s a reminder too that paralanguage is also learned and is therefore connected to culture: I wager that by seeing a non-Japanese person employing those same gestures, you’d be able to tell that they’d either been raised in Japan or had lived there a long time!
