Explanation: in the time where computers were becoming cheaper and cheaper, lcd technology was being developed and the first lcd flat panel monitors were becoming available to the consumer meant that these flatscreens were *expensive*, like EXPENSIVE expensive, so manufacturers wanted to stand out, offer something more than other ones, offer functionality, that would make people buy theirs monitor. And becouse computers couldn't do what they do today (like on demand movie, or tv straming) they added a tv tuner to their monitors. They were marketed, sold, and tuned as a monitor, but had tv functionality so you could, after using your computer, just switch to tv mode and use it to watch tv! Some ore expensive ones even had pip(picture in picture) so you could do both at the same time.
