V for me is kinda like a projectile setup character in fighting games, you have to be aware of where your projectiles are, how fast they are, and wheter they hit or not, so V for me, is all about scanning the battlefield in order to be aware of where shadow and griffon are to take advantage of their positioning

I think he has enough stuff to set up with, primarily Shadow's up draft and Griffon's tackle. Nightmare is just so slow and unintuitive to use for me. I cant figure him out for the life of me. The trouble I think is focusing you attacks on who you want. And the spawns aren't as responsive to V's commands as quickly as Dantes or Nero's slashes. The delay is the issue

I never understood why people said V was bad without ever really trying him out. I remember back when DMC4 first launched everyone said Nero was useless, you just spam buster and that's all you can do. Then people explored what he could do. V isn't bad he's just different.

His combos aren't as flashy and him needing to execute enemies sorta slows down combat sometimes. Mileage will vary but, I kinda like punching demons or nero's max exceed just blending the entire room. You choose how you want things to die. But with V almost everything dies the same.

V is bad because of two main reasons. His controls are pretty shit because you're controlling 3 seperate entities that all use the same left analog stick. So you basically either have to choose to use one or the other. Trying to do specific moves for all of his summons at the same time is just awful. The second reason is that you can blow through everything as V with an SSS rank by just button mashing and spamming. There's no incentive to not button mash as him because of that fact. This makes him an objectively worse character than Nero and Dante.

I enjoyed playing V. Yes there are some issues with him, but I actually like playing him the most. It does take a while to master him, but in the end I believe it's worth it.

I like playing V. He's a unique and challenging character to get down with, I think that's part of the fun. Kudos to you man and keep making great videos!

He has a very steep learning curve.

I've been having this fight for a year, and at this point I am prepared to die on this hill: V is criminally underrated. People act like he's garbage just because he's not one of the sword boys, and I think that's not fair at all. He's definitely the weakest of the group, which fits the lore, but that doesn't mean he's worthless. "He has the least combat depth of all!" Yes, this is true. This is the first time they've tried a character like this, so it's not going to be perfect right out the gate. Even then, I feel like they did a good job for a playstyle that's never been done like this in the franchise before now. "His animals sometimes go where I don't want them to go!" If you pay attention to how they move, you can adapt to how they move and plan how you want them to move in advance. And if they're in a weird position, you can use a dodge to call them back to you and reposition. "I can't believe your weapons have health bars, you can't do anything if they get knocked out!" Calling Nightmare heals them instantly, and also makes them invincible. So if they die or get low on health, DT and that problem is solved instantly. "Well, it's kind of hard to combo with them" Sorry, but this character wasn't made for combo mad videos that would make donguri blush. His moves look flashy enough as they are, enjoy the theatrics of what he can do without doing combos that almost break your controller. "Uh... he's still bad though!" Sure buddy, blame the game instead of yourself, that's how improvements are made. Sorry for the textwall, I'm just so sick of people complaining about V it makes me want to puke.

V is sort of a different take on Vergil. He requires you to plan everymove, and make them count.

V was always my best character. I got to BP stage 96 with him but got stuck at 40 with Dante and Nero. I'm glad you tried him.

It took me the longest to clear as Dante, but I did it first as V. Try to stay near-ish to the target, alternate taunts and the book to build DT (staying near to an enemh while reading gives more DT), and rember that you're invincible while riding Nightmare. DT's activation is pretty much an attack in itself, side/rear dodge will recall Shadow/Griffon respectively, and I found it helpful to send off either summon on the DT-powered auto mode so I could focus on using charged attacks with the other.

I got to like 85 with Dante 59 with Nero and didn’t attempt v

I really like V I can see why people don’t like him but most complaints are just “I can mash and win” while yes you can kinda do that your throwing away a lot of his cool stuff especially his setups and royal fork is just an amazing tool for him. Also a tip for keyboard users you can trick the game by just using S then W instead of trying to do the full rotate

You know...I'll say this: V isn't without his fair share of problems that the other two (and soon enough Vergil) don't have, that's true. But honestly I'm really glad to see someone doing V stuff- it's like moving pieces on a chessboard...and the "King" is the only one that can actually take enemy pieces. It's a really neat idea, even if it diverges some from the crazy combos that DMC is known for. I dunno though- that might just be me.

@@platinumwolf526 How do you manage your breakers? I either run out of them too early or I don't break them at all in fear of not finding enough around the level or not finding specific breakers. Not to mention his calibur max act timing and his combo b last hit max act timing? His payload's exact range, and most importantly his DT bar always runs out as fast as dante's normal DT, unlike dante he doesn't have the quadruple S or the promotion of V which both are options for effective power boosting that can be used all the time, he doesn't have great large aoe and his ranged options are limited. How do you manage such issues and how did you learn them? Nero definitely feels like the biggest learning curve (of course I haven't started learning Dante in depth so if you see something stupid it's probably not a typo)

@@eenernanis2664 okay so for breakers just practice with your favorite ones and learn when to use them and when not to his max act it wing isn’t to difficult I can get it maybe 30 percent of the time if I try hard enough and his dt is kinda like a panic button since showdown is his hard hitting move besides buster

@@platinumwolf526 I know how to use breakers perfectly, I'm saying how to judge if it's a good time to break them (I don't get hit, I use the super attacks or just break them with L2) 30% isn't much, I hit max act almost all the time, yet during combo B last hit I can't, I can't tell if I should press when it hits the ground or when pulling out

@@platinumwolf526 I don't use showdown except against bosses when I want to finish quick, it being a panic button means my approach of using it to cancel actions and temporary damage boost is bad, but him not having aerial maneuvering options besides basic jumps and certain attacks puts quite the limit, I counter this with gerbera but I don't always have gerbera as the equipped breaker

Well I feel like I've learned a lot of techs just from watching this. Awesome stuff. Never would have thought of using enemy step that way for V, I thought it would have been useless. I didnt know the fork mirages would deal damage as well. Very interesting use of tech.

Stage thirty was my favorite. I love trying to parry proto angelos and sin scissors with his cane. I think I've seen that you can also parry with his snap when you activate devil trigger. Haven't been able to pull that off yet. Nice combos dude.

V is unironically my favorite character to play in the game and ive never really had any issues with him, still learning how to combo but I can do all his moves just fine. Never had any issues with targeting and the familiars have always seemed responsive. He's always felt very slow, strategic and above all else badass for me, and i love it!

I actually enjoyed V. It was a different style in comparison to the sword fighters. That said, I mainly just kinda pressed buttons and got SSS really quick.

I don't like it how people dismiss "sword fighters" as if there is only one class. Dante fights with more than just swords as well as Vergil, and his and Dante's standard offensive sword style are diametrically opposed to each other. Nero's main weapon is a sword but it has that engine burst feature along with now all of the devil breakers and two devil bringer. It's like calling a scythe "just a staff" and anyone who uses a scythe is a staff fighter.

It's interesting how V's long combos don't necessarily give style, he just requires a different mindset to play. If you've gotten the Bloody Palace Taunt for V it buffs his cane to do more damage and not bounce off on hit, if you think that tool would help you!

Noice use of fork! You're really taking advantage of the time freeze for your charge attacks. Did anyone tell you that the input is a "capcom 360" which is to say, a 270, or a 3/4s circle? I usually aim a little past it to be safe, but I never complete a full 360. Makes it a bit faster. Additionally, I recommend you try some nightmare riding. I always use the DT + button inputs. I believe you don't get the teleport if you just used your checkmate teleport and haven't landed yet, so good to know that. Remember to hop off nightmare after giving him a quick command. I usually start teleport into laser, or his double laser stinger, or jump and smash before hopping off. The pause combo is something I have to work more on. it's so slow to start up that it's a danger to your DT bar to set it up on DMD.

A cool tip for V mains out there: If multiple enemies are ready to be executed, you can chain the execute between each enemy. This is helpful if you can’t seem to pull off Royal Fork consistently.

Your a better V than me, and I've played him more than Dante and Nero combined. I didn't even have to ask for this, so thank you.

It would be so cool if when Nightmare pops a group into the air with a laser beam, you position yourself in the middle and use the cane AOE to kill them all. Mad props dude, you're a badass.

One thing I learned that makes V much easier to effectively play is always have either familiar powered up using your DT gauge. This let's you focus on one or the other. I thought V was really button mashy for the longest time but he can honestly do some pretty cool stuff; I'm really glad that the team was willing to experiment on a game this big and mainstream, shows confidence in their work and that risks can still be taken!

As a V main this pleases me.

V needs fine tuning and a moveset expansion, but he's fine. I had a blast with him on DMD personally, it is indeed real easy to get SSS with him but DMD isn't much trouble at all if you make use of skewer, double check, round robin, and hedgehog. Playing this way is not only much more fun, it's also much more effective. I got S rank on V's side of mission 7 on my first try, no deaths or mission resets. Also, I've never had any problem inputting royal fork.

V deserves love.

I feel if he was a bit more expanded he could be really rad

V is actually super satisfying to play for me due to all the small stuff you have to pay attention to like positioning of everything on the screen. Dante is the one I hate playing as cause too many weapons with bazillion comboses, half of which are locked behind specific style. Nero is "will you touch the ground anytime soon" the character with all the mobility you could want, so he's my go-to.

Is there a mod that can change the input for royal fork? It's literally the only thing stopping me from playing him lol

I gave up on V, and just started using the easy mode option for playing as him. I give my familiars a DT charge, and let them do their own thing whist I read a book.

Even SSSmoke cant make V's gameplay look impressive.

You should have played special edition and just showed virgil gameplay. hope you can do some cool stuff with V in the future.

Hey... I heard in some other videos that if you upgrade V to the max. It would make the boss battle in Mission 18 harder? Is it true?

I V had moves he could use to combo in with his summons he'd be more fun. I get he's to weak to fight but why couldn't his cane be like a sword so that V can teleport in, smack the demon a couple of times before switching out with shadow or maybe have V use his summons without summoning them. Like making his arm a blade or shooting lightning out of his other arm. Something that'd make him more mechanically complicated than spamming.

Then he would risk himself to get hit, he doesn't have much movement options that's why he's a glass cannon I think, either way he can attack with the cane, it's just slow and barely does damage, but you CAN parry with the cane, I think it's his only way to parry for himself too so yeah

While V is certainly no Dante/Nero, I really like him, he's an odd character that has his own unique flair in combos. It took me a little while to actually adjust with him and figure out the familiar abilities, but when I did you can make some decent little combos with them. Nothing in comparison to the devil duo obviously. He's easier to mash and get away with but it does feel rewarding when you actually try and manage to perfectly set out a combo, its been awhile so I can't remember the actual inputs by heart. but I'd usually start it off with Shadow's rush into Griffon's own shortly after to launch, have Shadow spear them 2/3 times to keep them in the air and charge Griffon's AOE, unleash at the right moment as you do a dodge and you'll have the enemy sent towards you with Shadow at your side. Shadow combo B I think? To catch and mash away to keep em stuck and end it with Shadow's Launch into air spins and keep it going. During this do either lvl 1 or 2 charge of Griffon's forward beams (the one where it splits then meets in the middle) From here you have two choices while the two familiars are currently keeping the victim stuck in the air. Have V Cane jump to them, mashing B/Enermy Step to get a few extra hits in while charging either Shadow's AOE or spear. (for this example I'll use the spear but you want it to miss.) and use Griffon's rush again to knock them slightly higher into the air. If done correctly you'll land on top of the missed spear from Shadow and be able to use the lightsabre taunt from BP as the enemy will fall down next to you on top of the spear and be shredded/killed depending on HP. To me that was one of the funniest/swag combos I liked to do with V. The other choice if curious was to to summon Nightmare and cause his landing explosion to knock the enemy much higher up, charging Griffon's AOE and Shadow's aswell. Triggering them both at the same time when the enemy falls back down. If done right the two attacks send them really high once more since they've effectively bounced from the other duo. there you just let Nightmare do his own thing or cancel him and just do more stuff with the duo as they come back down again. This bit is harder to land than it sounds though as you need to have barely moved V after that cane jump from before else when you trigger the AOEs, Griffon and Shadow won't be near you to sandwich the enemy as they fall. They always try to trigger their AOEs next to V since its more defensive. So when you get used to what moves make them further and closer to you, it can become pretty fun bouncing enemies like a ping pong ball between the duo

It slows down time, makes you invincible and grounds you. Also, your summons teleport to you during it

@@yakuzashibe It also does a slight bit of damage. If an enemy (Empusa, for instance) Has low enough health, but not in the *FINISH HIM* state, it'll kill them out right. A good use for it is to get groups of demons low enough to be killed by it, which will take some practice.

I like to supe up shadow, spam blockade with griffon and then just taunt at the screen or read my book until it’s eventually over

Beating the game on DMD pretty much required me to master V. He's not a hard character to really play well. He's just taxing. He also has a lot of i frames while holding Griffon which I abused like no tomorrow.

I love stylish action games but I've always been horrendous at playing them, But for some reason V clicked for me immediately and I can consistently pull off cool combos and not get hit unlike everyone else who I sometimes struggle with.

"Wait, V is actually good?" Yes, but actually yes. He's hard to style with. He requires a lot of finesse. But when you do it right, it's super rewarding.

I never thought V was bad... Just the furthest thing from the type of style that I would ever go for.

I just mash meele amd ranged while ocasionally dodging or juming and reguralrly reach s, ss or sss rank. Keep in mind i've only ever beaten dmc5 on human mode and i' currently playing again on devil hunter mode. I haven't noticed a big difference except i get more stylish points and higher rankings due to my slightly higher skill.

Also the AoE cane ability only hurts anyone looking to be executed so i keep seeing him waste is DT Utilize Auto Attacking more so you can use the other to charge up deadly moves without having to use some freakist claw grip on the controller Promoted Nightmare sucks Auto Attacking Shadow and Griffon will prioritze anyone youre locking onto -- so its perfectly viable to keep lock off read the book and dump DT into both griffin and Shadow griffin needs a buff Both shadow and griffin the heaviest and Easiest moves and back to forward Abilities Auto Attacking Shadow and Griffin still can be controlled if you need them to use a specific move - You can Charge a Neutral while they still attack freely Shadow and Griffin Heal when youre closeby encouraging people to stay up close in the action - Nightmare is pretty much only used to revive if your others are both stalemated - would be real fucking nice if there was an unsummon button to help pull them out of danger but instead ive got to dodge backwards and to the side to get them out of harms way but this also puts them out of correct positioning and it takes forever to get back to it -- Play V like youre a Necromancer !!

I do appreciate people giving my favorite character a chance, at the very least. I understand his play style isn't for everyone, but I feel that everyone should respect each others preferences in this game. Just have fun my friends.

I think you could beat V's levels with just the cane, because Royal Fork does some decent damage and you can get DT back pretty quickly by reading the book.

I set Gryphon to RT and danced through Bloody Palace first try but died to Urizen3 cause i actually didn't have anything on lock. but i was shocked by how much early 2000's emo music elevated the experience.

Being able to fight while taunting makes V sss+ tier inmediatly
