Good point of course. I think one of the reasons it’s happening like it is here in the UK is because (and many miss this) is that the UK is the only, yes the only, country so far that’s legally signed up to the net zero fairy story. I think this is their little test bed before they consider rolling it out to other countries. So, if it fails here, which it undoubtedly will, then it will fail full stop. 😊

Shame Britishvolt went bust, both France and Germany now have a couple of giga factories. The UK is falling behind the rest of the world, shame really and partly it's due to the UK anti EV and anti climate change lobby, who are really dragging our industrial base back into the dark ages! I thought the same as you until I lived with one and apart from the £200 a month I'm saving in fuel (costs £25 a month) instead of £250 plus the technology in it and then there's the back roads. Not all EV's are soggy puddings. The weight will drop the power will rise and any petrolhead would be stupid not to own a 600bhp supercar performance EV for 50k.

I daily a 3 litre 313 bhp BMW 335D from 2017, 0-60 in 4.6 seconds, all wheel drive, and anywhere from 30-55mpg, leaves most cars for dead off the line. I used to drive it just for fun, doing easily 2,000 miles a month, last month my fuel bill was insane, £599. In the last week near enough, I drove to and from work for 6 days, it's a 12 mile round trip each day, plus I drove another 11 miles on my days off work a few days ago. I used 1/8th of a tank of fuel in a 3 litre car. That's about £12-£13 in fuel for an entire week... not bad at all! Goes like sh*t off a shovel, I've kept up with an Audi RS3, a Mercedes C63 AMG (which is a V12) and some dimwit tried to race me in his Tesla with his boyfriend in the passenger seat (looked like two men having a mid life crisis). The Tesla pulled away initially but within 2-3 seconds I was clawing the gap back, within 8 seconds I was level and passing the Tesla at a rate of knots. I recently kept looking at a Polestar 2 EV, but the though of the faffing about getting an electric charger installed, and a long cable run through the bedroom to the consumer unit in the house was a right put off, not only that but the cost of it also and then the cost of invariably sooner or later having to use the public charging network which is no cheaper than fuel (and often more expensive). Plus the "quoted range" figures are always miles out... they quote 420 miles for instance but you actually get 360... that's 60 miles less than quoted. Going to or from work that's almost a whole working week's driving for me just in the difference between those two figures. Glad I decided not to swap and just decided to drive my car less. Plenty of power when needed, reliable as anything, easy and very convenient to refuel and just as efficient as an EV, if not more efficient.

A vehicle half the weight, half the price that will almost quarter the damage done to the road. A vehicle that can be refuelled in a 10th of the time and has a range of up to 4 times the distance in all weather conditions. It does not rely on the environmentally damaging use of non-renewable rare earth elements to power it and use far less steel and other materials, just think how excited people would be for such technology. It is a bigger problem on bank holidays because there are more people on the road but at the moment only a small percentage of people are foolish enough to own EV's. When everyone drives an EV then the queues will be every day and when the delays reach 24 hours (which they will) then no one will be able to travel. The government knows this and THAT is what they want. It is easy to control people when you can restrict their movement and rights. My diesel car can refuel at 20,000 Mph and creates much lower emissions than an EV.

How to protect the environment. To manufacture each EV battery you must process 25,000 pounds of brine for the lithium, 30,000 pounds of ore for the cobalt, 5,000 pounds of ore for the nickel, 25,000 pounds of ore for copper. This involves digging up 500,000 pounds of the earth's crust for just one battery. The carbon dioxide and other greenhouse emissions that come with the process of lithium mining, extraction and overall production are worse for the climate than the production of fossil fuel-powered vehicles.
