It's no joke that they're an independent breed, but they're super well behaved, too. Just in their own way. For example, instead of commanding them to do something, you basically have to ask them, and they'll get around to doing it... just, you know, in their own sweet time. Mine also loves all little animals; I often find him cuddling with the various bunnies that visit the yard.

Agreed that they like small animals. While mine is a Pyrenees Anatolian mix, she loves her wiener brother, and she saves all of the fledgling birds by cradling them in her mouth and bringing them to us, and she’s never hurt a single one of them, she just makes sure brother can’t get to them. Although she also herds the kiddo, which is funny to me, not so much kiddo.

Not saying 6’ standing on hind legs is small but that’s not “ginormous” for a Great Pyrenees. My dad’s 4yo male Great Pyrenees/akbash mix stands closer to 7’ on his hind legs. IF he were to stand on his hind legs next to me, he cud lean over abit and use my head as a headrest. My dad breed that big boy with a neighbours Great Pyrenees/collie mix and in return kept 1 of the female pups. Well at 1.5yo she is already 6’ tall standing on her hind legs. And she looks small next to her father. Both r lovely cuddle bums.

Her best friend is a one-eyed, 6-pound, apple head chihuahua my best friend owns. Kiki could easily fit in Pandora's mouth and be a snack, but instead they play "tug" where Pandora holds the toy while laying on her belly and Kiki tugs viciously on it until Pandora decides to let go. Then Kiki runs around all victorious, Pandora steps on the toy to reclaim it while Kiki rolls as she loses her grip, and they resume positions and play again.

And sometimes drool. But a stranger knocking at the door will get a scary growl and then a big booming bark! Same goes for squirrels, birds, sketchy looking leaves that blow by…He’s a really good guard dog. He HATES baths though. When he gets home he rubs on everything like, “Oh my dog! I’ve got clean on me! Ew ew I gotta get the clean off! 😩” 😂😂😂 He also does a stress poop outside the groomer. 🤣

They actually give A LOT of warning before actually biting the intruder. But if one pushes them into the attack... Well... Let's put it that way. From what I know from Pys owners, if a xxxl pitbull mastiff mix fighting dog gets loose, bothers the sheep and meets a great Pyrenees - I am mostly worried for pitbull's life and not the Pyr or the sheep. Also. Bite strength almost like that of a kangal.

Just LUV reading the comments from all these Pyr owners, and you had your work cut out for you with this beautiful boy, Vanessa! He seemed pretty tolerant and mellow for the most part, and gave you such sweet kisses when his grooming was completed. I believe we may have collected, vacuumed, and swept up enough Pyr hair to stuff a king-sized mattress, but our two are treasured and loved household members who never fail to make us smile. Beautiful temperaments and a beautiful breed.

I have a GP named Clifford (the big white dog). He is retired now, but he has been the best service dog I've ever had. Although GPs are supposedly the most difficult to train, for some reason, he and I really understood each other more than my other service dogs. He has many medical alerts and has saved my life more times than I can count. I love him so much, he is very sweet and intelligent. He is sometimes demanding with his Pyrenees Paw, but I don't mind.

Her friends on the forum had known Dutch since she got him as a pup. We're all hoping she can get another big floof soon.
