I Tried Mickey's Hot Tub with my Toyota Tacoma, now I want upgrades..
Ойын-сауық
On our final day in Moab Utah @DirtLifestyle and I decided to run hells revenge with some friends. Hells revenge is one of my favorite trails in Moab because you really get to chose your own adventure. It can be as chill or as challenging as you'd like. My Tacoma had been a bit finicky the days before as it struggled to engage the rear locker but the wheeling gods favored me that day and the locker slipped into place. The truck was actually super capable and we had an awesome time rock crawling the toyota tacoma and Jeep Gladiator. When we came across the famous Mickeys hot tub I decided it was worth the risk so I dropped the Tacoma into the tub. With Nate as my spotter I worked my way out of the tub but needed to pull a winch line. Later I flew my paramotor over moabs beautiful landscape. #toyotatacoma #rockcrawling #4x4

I've followed you for a very long time, good times, bad times, funny times and of course some really dumb 😄 things. Look you jumped that Toyota nose down heavy. All you need is a front locker and a crawl box. Thanks for all the great times. I wheeled with Mike's father 1996-1998, I had a 1971 cj 5 at the time. The Tacoma looks great and is plenty capable. But it never fails to fail. Random 4wd issues and always losing alignment would make me think twice.

My 97 Taco smashed through Moab over the week after father's day this year. Hells Revenge Fins-N-Things Poison Spider Golden Spike GBR nothing broke. Nothing damaged. Took 3 days to do all the trails. Tacobox double T-case, 5spd R150F tranny, 3.4L supercharged, Radflo 2.5 coilovers with remote reservoirs on 285/75/16 Goodyear Duratrac tires with beadgrip method wheels. ARB rear locker, Truetrac LSD up front, and much more. This old dog just keeps killing it.

I'd love to meet up with some Taco lovers to wheel with. I'm local to the Reno, NV area and willing to travel with proper heads up.
You have to bypass all that computer stuff brother. That's why i did the full GM swap when i went v8. If you want keep the stock engine. You would need to have the ADD welded.. Stand alone front locker & rear locker. Also would a manual transfer case out of a FJ. Hope that help you out.
Dude, your Tacoma is an absolute BEAST when everything is working properly! Imagine what it could do with 37s, dual air lockers, a manual transfer case, and maybe a doubler! You might also think about welding up a truss on that rear axle if you're going to rock crawl it a bunch. Oh and if you want to never worry about alignment ever again, get the Poly Performance "Taco Tabs" Alignment Cam Delete Kit. I did it for my Tacoma and haven't had to do an alignment since!
This was an awesome video Maxx and the paramotor flight at the end was perfect. I honestly didn't realize how quickly that paramotor covered ground until I watched those drone shots.

Looked like the young Wright Brothers making that landing. LOL 😂. Elon Musk needs to make an electric motor with a super cell pack for flying.
Feel your pain with the locker issue, have a 21 LB offroad. Inclined hesitates to go into 4 low and or locker won't engage same with crawl. Other than that, it's a blast to drive. What a crew to wheel with! You and Nate got me going up into snow wheeling and last year made my yay out to Utah. I've got a 1st gen SR5 that I'm going to do a straight axle and cage it like your other Taco. Keep enjoying that Taco and am glad you're getting the Tundra where you want it.
Psychology Wheeling 🍄 🤣
Idk max…with your truck issues coming back again I’d just scrap the ISF and just go with a SAS setup already and build it up from there.

Hey maxx! Vsc and steering wheel ? Zero point calibration ? Steering angle sensors? I had my VSC off after MY steering rack was replaced 😆. Also I'm keeping my taco more n more. I just picked up an offroad trailer for it !
You'll be chasing electronic gremlins whichever vehicle you go with by the time you're comfortable (and it's got enough miles enough) to really wheel it. It's a sign it's time to go with cable or air lockers. Love your stuff Maxx! Make this the new crawler!
Afternoon dude!
Max I don’t blame you man. I was stubborn as hell wanted to hold on to my Colorado simply because of all the money I dumped into it especially after 2 engines and 2 trannys but I eventually threw in the towel when I had to replace a thermostat and it cost 120 bucks! For a damn thermostat! I battled that stupid truck for 9 years and I couldn’t doit anymore I loved that truck but I finally realized it’s never be a Jeep I spent more time fixing it than driving it some years. I finally caved and gotta Jeep. Best decision I ever made super easy to work on parts are relatively cheap plenty of aftermarket and it’s king of the trail. Not too mention the soft top. Not matter what you do you’ll never avoid the body damage that a Jeep can avoid I’ve seen many guys in all sorts of different Toyotas just raisen up their shit where jeeps have no issues all because of their ego lol keep to taco make it a prerunner get a Jeep if you want to rock crawl less time and money and stress you keep your pride and joy so light trails and overlanding and desert use the Jeep to abuse it on the rocks. Also for the rims try the old duck tape trick on them if you can break the bead on them. Ask around they’ll tell you about it lol I’m wondering if the shoot hat put them on used too much bead lube yo get them on? Also maxxident is an auto correct in my phone 😂

I’m a Toyota guy and this is correct. Toyotas aren’t really meant for rock crawling. I mean you can pour a lot of money into them and make them capable but where a rubicon stock is at, you have to spend alot of money to get to a stock Jeep’s capability and a bunch of cutting and chopping. But where Toyotas shine would be a pre runner and where Toyotas really shine is overlanding. Taking alot of abuse and being very reliable and solid and having a lot of room for cargo and gear and most overlanders choose to have something like a 33 rather than giant tires like 37s and 40s since overlanding is a balance of everything. On road off road every type of weather so alot of guys also choose all terrain tires for snow and rain and just being versatile and not being too bad on mpg. 33 inch is a perfect size for a Toyota trucks or at least the tacoma 4runner fj cruiser Land Cruiser. Depends what you do but strictly rock crawling jeep is def the best. Overlanding and being versatile with all different types of terrain and roads and doubling as a daily driver and being comfortable, Toyota is the way to go. But we’ll what Toyota does for their newer stripped down Land Cruiser and the 6th gen 4runner. So far the tundra wasn’t too impressive and just a solid truck but nothing to write home about, but the tacoma seems to be a very big improvement all around as long as the power train is as bulletproof as previous N/A engines. I’m a toyota guy till I die but I respect all real off road vehicles that are body on frame and are actually used off road and pushes the competition and market to be better. Bronco forced jeep to come out with the 392, and the extreme recon package and make minor adjustments that are great and should’ve been there all along. The midsize market is insanely competitive and forced other brands to try to top the tacoma and they forced toyota to come with the heat for the 4th gen tacoma. The bronco and jeep will make the 6th gen 4runner to be better and the stripped down Land Cruiser will be better because of those reasons too. The consumers win at the end of the day. Now they just all need to lower the damn prices hahaha. These new truck prices are getting ridiculous after covid.

@@Maxx.Powell I was thinking maybe you could buy an old FJ it’s basically a Jeep lol I’m tellin you man I paid 20 bucks for a Jeep thermostat and it took me 15 minutes instead of 2 hours 😂 don’t get me wrong I love seeing the Toyota on here but you have to dump so much money into them where if you dumped the same money in a Jeep it’d be insane at one point it just became a financial decision for me I hit my breaking point. If you can swing the money I’d keep the taco. It’d be really sweet to see you get an FJ 40 like half way built/restored and have a cool build series. @@Maxx.Powell that’s fair. I’ve seen that. Totally forgot. I know people who wheel them and have no issues but they also work at the locate Toyota dealer as a tech.
I love Toyota and have owned my fair share of them 8 of them but they are not what they use to be. From the mid 2000s on they all seem to be plagued with traction control issues, t case not wanting to shift , locker not wanting to engage and if you loose one sensor the whole system shuts down . It is super frustrating when you spend so much time prepping for a trip just to have dash lights constantly come on. Still great rigs and fun to drive but it can test your patience .
Getting the steering wheel straight should solve many of the traction control issues.

FJ Cruiser t case, e locker override, front locker and forget the rest
Does anybody know what front skid plate is on the marlin crawler? The website says ARB, but it looks like something else..
Just solid axle it.
Man, you’ve beat the shit out of that thing hard years ago. Probably have a hidden issue and eventually it comes back, no matter how many bandages you do. It’s like having pain in your leg, but it’s due to your L4 in your back. You can keep working the leg, or solve the real cause. I don’t think you’ve found the real cause. They are few and far these days, and getting less common, but look for a good diagnosis tech, who can find the real issue.

Nate’s got plenty of handsome too. Well, hell… you’re both so damn good looking! Fine looking men but I’m here for the trucks and scenery!
That viral broncos video of this was the best
33:00 when in the tub your spotter had you all messed up. you were never gonna make it that way, we all know about the world of difference between being in the vehicle and outside the vehicle. they had all you all canted to where your front wheels lost contact far too soon, you needed to be a little bit driver early on and coming significantly more driver on the way up and out. it never makes sense to choose a line that results in 2 tires off the ground.... i love my 2014 TRD but i realize that a good line makes alot of difference xD
It breaks like a jeep but it's unlikely to ever wheel like a jeep. Like most jeep owners I started with a yota and I'd take my 83 Yoda back in a instant...these new ones...nah.
havent had issues with my locker at angles if i engage it and then just give it a liiiiiiitle gas. the gears sometimes just need to rotate a little bit so that they can slip into place

The best upgrade for an off road 4 door taco is to sell it and get a Gladiator... and this is coming from a life long Toyota fan. But other than that, getting rid of the electric tcase and adding real selectable lockers will solve a lot of the issues.

No, you don't need more "upgrades"🤦🏾♂️, just better lines choices and spotters. Most importantly though, the driver skill. I've seen 2nd and 3rd gen Tacomas make it out with little to no problem, there are videos out there. Some without much of a spotter and definitely not as hooked up as your truck, gear wise.
