4WD loses control on DEADLY MOAB Trail - what happens next?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Last time you saw us in the USA, we were living it up in the mountains of Colorado taking on the highest altitude wheeling we’ve EVER experienced! 🏔️ BUT, if there is ONE off-road destination that stands above ALL the rest, it’s got to be Moab, Utah!
A childhood dream of Shauno’s turned REALITY, this place is like another planet! Moab hosts some of the craziest & most dangerous low range 4WD trails to ever exist.
The challenges that Shaun, Jock & the crew attempt in Moab are challenges where the consequences of NOT making it are far greater than anywhere else in the WORLD… 🌎
AND, when things go wrong out in Moab, they go wrong in a BIG way. Get it wrong slightly, and you & your 4WD might be gone for good… 💀

We have tons of hard rock crawling and such here in Appalachia! Some of us even hate mud lol. I think they would really enjoy a WV/KY overland backcountry trip. Tons of hard wheeling and you can get way out there. There are loads of other great areas but the vast majority is constrained to public or private OHVs. I personally think 4wd 27/7 would love a PNW or even British Columbia trip. If we get anymore North American (or South American!) trips I don't care where they go!

The answer to the question about rollovers on the 'launch pad" is YES lots and lots of vehicle's have rolled on it. Also those "white marks" to guide you on the trail are painted spikes. You may have also noticed some that looked like rectangles or painted bars, which are used to mark another over lapping trail called Gold Bar Rim. Was fun watching you Ausi's reaction to Moab. Spike can be ever more fun in the snow at 1am😂

Moab is absolutely epic, it had been in my bucket list for 15+ years when we went there in 2014 during our roadtrip in western USA. Flew from Finland to San Fransisco, we had been driving for around 3000 miles before getting to Moab. In Moab, we rented a lifted Jeep from one of the local off-read rentals. Drove a few trails and Shafer road. I gotta get there again, views and trails are simply amazing!

Shaun talking about sandstorms reminds me of a new years me an friends went off-roading an we went to bed an a huge sandstorm hit two tents with people in them got blown about 500m away from camp, one mate in a swag got completely buried (if it wasn't for his snoring we would of never found him, an had slept through whole thing) was a big reminder to be prepared for anything an attach your tent/swag to your vehicle if possible an have equipment to call emergency services always available.

  • 15 күн бұрын

I travelled from Namibia to Moab for Cruise Moab 2002. I could swear blind that my buddy Jeff managed to grenade first his rear, then his front pinion bearing of his HZJ75 in the space of like 10 seconds on the very climb that was shown right at the start of the clip. It took two Chevy V8-powered FJ40s to drag him off that mountain and down to the campsite, where we spent the next couple of hours scrounging parts to make his truck mobile again. All kinds of people donated parts - including an entire front diff assembly - and all kinds of people cheered us on. We managed to get his driveline buttoned back up _just_ in time to still grab a couple of bowls of chilli from the potluck that was being held, and to claim his Golden 8-Ball Award. Good times. Can't believe it's 22 years ago already!

Moab sure has changed since I first started exploring the area in the 1980s. Back then it was empty country. My brother and I spent a lot of time on those trails. Most of the time we never saw another soul, but occasionally would cross paths with 1 or 2 other brave souls and their vehicles. The only time there were multiple vehicles was during the annual Moab Jeep Safari. Then mountain bikes started showing up and we knew a change was coming. We wanted to build a hotel because there wasn't much available, but the banks turned us down because they said "Moab is a dying town" and they wouldn't risk any money there. Two years later the people started coming in. We were just a little too early. Back then Moab was unheard of. Even some people in Utah didn't know what it was. Now it's world famous. I really miss those old empty days when we had the whole place to ourselves.

Well the wait was worth it! AHopefully not as much wait for episode 2. My wife and I are from Canada and we did Poision Soider Mesa 2 years ago now in a stock 2022 Colorado ZR2. With 32" tires! I spotted while she drove the tougher spots. Was so awesome with a fair bit of skid plate use and dragging rear hitch/bumper. Finished that trail and went back out it. Next time will have to try the rest of the Tri Fecta with more tire on the next wheeler. Glad to see you guys enjoyed your time there.
